Norah, Brooke, Kelly, or Pearl?

Hello!

Due with second daughter and will have 2 under 2 this winter! “Big” sis is [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], just to fill you in. Our (my) minds keep changing, but I love hearing all your thoughts on ideas as they come to me. Right now we are trying to decide between these 4:

[name_f]Norah[/name_f]- This is my husband’s favorite. He wanted it for DD number 1. I do love that it means “shining light”, [name_f]Norah[/name_f] [name_m]Jones[/name_m] is one of my favorite musicians, and since this baby wll be born around the holidays, the name [name_f]Norah[/name_f] does give me a cozy warm feeling of curling up around the fire during a snow storm. Concerns are the upswing in popularity- I see the name a lot on these boards, is it destined for the top 20? It’s not that I’m trying to be original, I just want to try and save her from being one of many in her class, which I know you can never really predict. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the sound on the name?

[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]- I always loved [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] as a name growing up. It gives me a calm feelings when I think of running water. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s too boring or common? And when I say it outloud, do you think [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] has a harsh sound to it, like very abrupt?

[name_u]Kelly[/name_u]- I never thought I would consider this- I know it’s so 80s. But my husband likes it and when I say it, it actually feels pleasant and happy like [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. And even though it was very popular at a time, you don’t hear of a lot of baby [name_u]Kelly[/name_u]'s anymore, so it might be more unexpected than some of the “out there” names people are coming up with nowadays. It also means warrior woman, which is kind of cool since my first daughter was such a struggle to conceive, then I miscarried right before getting pregnant with this one, so she’s a strong little babe.

[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]- This is what I wanted to name my first daughter but hubs wasn’t a fan. So as a compromise, we picked [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], which actually means [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. He said this time I could have it if I love it, but now I’m not sure. Also, do you think it’s weird for both girls names to have the same meaning, or does number 2 deserve her own identity in that way? I don’t get great feedback either when I share the name [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. I’m not sure I love it more than the others anyway.

Our last name is Irish, with three 3 syllables, and sounds pretty good with all of these choices. Thoughts on middle names would probably be:
[name_f]Norah[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u] [name_u]Riley[/name_u]
[name_u]Kelly[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Renee[/name_f]

Thanks you for your thoughts. Also, any other names that give you a warm, cozy feeling for a winter baby girl?

You’ve got some great choices! I love [name_f]Norah[/name_f]- it’s gaining in popularity right now but I wouldn’t be too worried about that. Some girls spell it without the “h” too. I also think that [name_f]Norah[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is cute in addition to [name_f]Norah[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]. [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is my other favorite, and I wouldn’t be worried about the meanings being the same with the big sis. Who knows, they might even like it!

[name_u]Kelly[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] gets my vote, it’s beautiful

In order…

[name_u]Kelly[/name_u] - I’m with you on this one; [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] had her heyday in our time, and she sounds all fresh and new and adorably Irish. I love it! Especially with [name_f]Maggie[/name_f].

[name_f]Norah[/name_f] - cozy at Christmastime, I get what you mean; this name is lovely. I would not worry about popularity or that she’ll have to be one of many in her class. It’s not trendy, it’s classic.

[name_u]Brooke[/name_u] - it’s brisk and strong, but so harsh compared to bouncy [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] and cozy [name_f]Norah[/name_f]

[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] - i love vintage, but along with [name_u]Darryl[/name_u], [name_f]Meryl[/name_f], and [name_f]Carol[/name_f], I’ve never been a fan of names with R and L sounds so close together - just my odd tic

[name_f]Norah[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is my favorite! I definitely get the warm, cozy, sitting by the fire feeling with this name and I’ve always thought it’s a simple and beautiful name. [name_f]Norah[/name_f] & [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] are really cute together. I don’t know how I feel about [name_u]Kelly[/name_u]! It was pretty popular when I was growing up but I can see its upbeat, Irish appeal. I think you are right in that it would be fresh choice today. It’s growing on me already! [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] would be my second choice. [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] & [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] have the same happy vibe:-) I also like [name_f]Calla[/name_f] - [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is sweet! Other names that have the same feel as [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] for me: [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f].

[name_u]Brooke[/name_u] [name_u]Riley[/name_u] is cute!
[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] would make a cute pair too!

I also like [name_f]Norah[/name_f] and the spelling you like is not as common so the popularity thing shouldn’t matter too much.

[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and [name_f]Norah[/name_f], although I personally would prefer [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f], make a wonderful sibling set. As to popularity, popularity currently is nothing like popularity a couple/few decades ago. To make things more real, look-up the amount of births in the United Stated in 2015 and then look-up the amount of babies given the names [name_u]Noah[/name_u] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] (THE top names). A drop in the bucket.

I like [name_f]Norah[/name_f] and [name_u]Kelly[/name_u]

Out of those four, [name_f]Norah[/name_f] is my pick. It is getting more popular, but like lovemysweeties pointed out, even the most popular names aren’t actually shared by that many babies now. It’s such a pretty name, and I think it goes great with [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. I don’t care much for [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] or [name_u]Kelly[/name_u].

I really like the name [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], and I think it could be really sweet for your two daughters to share the meaning of their names, but my only concern would be if you ever had a third daughter to name and she got left out. Not a problem if you’re positive this is your last child, but otherwise that would be a dealbreaker to me.

Personally, I love the name [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] for a winter baby. I love the symbolism of how evergreens keep their color even when everything around them is dying, and they point to the spring that’s coming. I would love to use it if I ever happen to have a daughter in winter!

I actually vote for [name_u]Kelly[/name_u]! [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] sound so cute together

I love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]! Second choice [name_f]Nora[/name_f].

[name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is lovely

My name is [name_u]Brooke[/name_u]! I’ve always loved my name. I don’t find it harsh sounding at all. I get compliments on it ALL the time! Plus, I’ve never met another [name_u]Brooke[/name_u]!

Must admit that when I looked at your thread title, [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] was the least preferred of your names but, when you combined it with [name_f]Rose[/name_f]… [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], ah that flows of the tongue and makes a beautiful sound. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f].

I also really like the name [name_f]Norah[/name_f] but - just a thought - it sounds like a slurring of ‘not a’ so maybe not best teamed with [name_f]Joy[/name_f] as a second name as she will be a joy to you, your husband and your family.

What are [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]'s favourite names for her forthcoming little sister?

Whatever you choose, wishing you and her much joy and happiness.

[name_u]Kelly[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is my favourite! I think [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] is absolutely beautiful, and should definitely be used more today.

My favorites in order are:

[name_f]Norah[/name_f] - This is one of my favorite names. I typically prefer it without the “h” but this spelling is nice as well. [name_f]Norah[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is wonderful.
[name_u]Kelly[/name_u] - [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is great and you’re right that this would feel fresh on a baby today. It’s full of spunk.
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] - I like pearl, but I don’t love it. I actually think it would be great to use in the middle spot. [name_f]Norah[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is particularly lovely.
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u] - I agree that this is a calming name in theory, but in reality it just feels kinda bland.

[name_f]Norah[/name_f] gets my vote with [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] in a close second. I think [name_f]Norah[/name_f] [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] would make a gorgeous combo.

[name_f]Norah[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is gorgeous…I love this name!

[name_f]Norah[/name_f] is the perfect choice!

I like [name_f]Norah[/name_f] and [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] the most. I say use them both! [name_f]Norah[/name_f] [name_u]Brooke[/name_u]

[name_f]Norah[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] 100%. [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] [name_u]Riley[/name_u] is cute but feels a bit dated to me. And [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] I would relegate to the middle. [name_f]Norah[/name_f] [name_u]Kelly[/name_u]?
