[name]Baby[/name]'s future god-daddies hung out at the house this weekend, and with my boyfriend currently working non stop and being completely non-communicative, I discussed names with them! They both loved our name choices, but as one of them advised, we should make a “normal” name list, just in case. He and his wife had picked out [name]Keturah[/name] for their baby girl a few years ago, but when she was there, they named her… [name]Alice[/name]. So, for the sake of avoiding me going crazy after baby is here (and let’s face it, how much fun is list making?), I present our top ten “normal” names for [name]Baby[/name] if [name]Baby[/name] is a boy. If you have any opinions, please let us (me) know, and if you care tell us your favourite(s). Trying to make, ideally, a top 3-5. Thanks!
[name]Ivo[/name]- yes.
[name]Nemo[/name]
[name]Robin[/name]
[name]Idris[/name]
I too think [name]Rufus[/name] is great, but I had a dog by this name, and I also strongly associate it with the color red, not green-blue… not sure if that’s of major importance to you.
Dearest [name]Emma[/name], Pindar is not a normal name! really cool though! I just can’t see myself in the hospital going “[name]Babe[/name], we can’t name our child [name]Orion[/name], let’s name him Pindar instead…” You made me laugh though! Besides, in my accent Pindar sounds kind of like Panda.
taz: my “abnormal” list thread is closed for now, when we’ve narrowed down our middle choices we’ll ask for combo help!
jesse: I love [name]Rufus[/name] too!
lizabethrose: Yeah, I see the [name]Nemo[/name] thing… and [name]Rufus[/name] is a bit dorky, but I love that! Besides there’s the not-so-dorky-over-the-top-diva [name]Little[/name] Miss [name]Rufus[/name] [name]Wainwright[/name].
[name]Cecil[/name] - Nice. I also like [name]Cyrus[/name] and [name]Cyril[/name].
[name]Hector[/name] - I like this. I’m not sure I’m brave enough for it in the US for a kid with no Spanish beyond what they learn off [name]Dora[/name], so I’m not sure I’d use it, but in a British context it is cool.
[name]Hugo[/name] - A bit trendier than your others. I honestly have to admit I’d prefer [name]Hugh[/name] or Hywel.
[name]Nemo[/name] - Obviously I’ve read too many [name]Nero[/name] [name]Wolfe[/name] mysteries but I prefer [name]Nero[/name] to [name]Nemo[/name]. I’d also rather deal with the whole “fiddling while [name]Rome[/name] burns” than Finding [name]Nemo[/name]. However I like Nehemya so obviously my judgement might be skewed.
[name]Hugo[/name] and [name]Rufus[/name] are my favorites. If I wanted to add a third to make it the top 3-5 you’re looking for, I would probably say [name]Viggo[/name].
I like [name]Mio[/name] a lot, but I’d always heard it was a feminine Japanese name, so I can’t really picture it on a boy, sorry.
It really depends of whether I’m choosing the most ‘normal’ or my personal favourites.
I would say [name]Cecil[/name], [name]Hector[/name], [name]Ivo[/name], [name]Robin[/name] and [name]Rufus[/name] are the most ‘usable’, in the UK anyway, and apart from the addition of [name]Viggo[/name], they’re my favourites too. As a top three:
The only names that strike me as “normal” are [name]Robin[/name], [name]Hector[/name], and [name]Hugo[/name]. [name]Rufus[/name] is sort of a rockstar name, but I definitely wouldn’t call it normal.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Nemo[/name] for you!!! As you know, I can’t use it, but that’s all the more reason why I would love to see it on someone else I don’t even think of the little clownfish till someone mentions him. I think of [name]Jules[/name] [name]Verne[/name] and the Nightwish song.
I’m a fan of [name]Hugo[/name] as well!
Not so much [name]Rufus[/name] or [name]Hector[/name]. [name]Rufus[/name] is a very “redneck” name where I am from, and the only non-Spanish association I get from [name]Hector[/name] is a mashup of [name]Hannibal[/name] Lecter. Eek!
[name]Mio[/name] is your nn for [name]Endymion[/name], isn’t it? So cute And I know how much you love [name]Robin[/name]!
Hey @ottilie I think my favorite “normal” names for you are [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Robin[/name] and [name]Hector[/name]. [name]Robin[/name] seems the most tame but since it was on your original name list I think it would be a great “normal” name to take with you to the hospital just in case.
