"Normal" Names for Baby Girl

[name]Baby[/name]'s future god-daddies hung out at the house this weekend, and with my boyfriend currently working non stop and being completely non-communicative, I discussed names with them! They both loved our name choices, but as one of them advised, we should make a “normal” name list, just in case. He and his wife had picked out [name]Keturah[/name] for their baby girl a few years ago, but when she was there, they named her… [name]Alice[/name]. So, for the sake of avoiding me going crazy after baby is here (and let’s face it, how much fun is list making?), I present our top twelve “normal” names for [name]Baby[/name] if [name]Baby[/name] is a girl. If you have any opinions, please let us (me) know, and if you care tell us your favourite(s). Trying to make, ideally, a top 3-5. Thanks!

[name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Carmel[/name]
[name]Emma[/name]
[name]Hennie[/name]
[name]Holly[/name]
[name]Isobel[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Louise[/name]
[name]Marion[/name]
[name]Nessa[/name]
[name]Polina[/name]
[name]Vilma[/name]

Haha, funny guys! [name]Laurel[/name], [name]Louise[/name], [name]Marion[/name], and [name]Nessa[/name] are the standouts for me. I’d love to be named any one of them! [name]Aurora[/name] is lovely but I have issues pronouncing it. I swear, the older I get, the more I think I’m developing a speech impediment!

[name]Aurora[/name], [name]Holly[/name], [name]Laurel[/name].

[name]Emma[/name] is great, but SO over done. I’d actually really love to meet a baby [name]Holly[/name].

[name]Holly[/name], [name]Marion[/name], and [name]Laurel[/name] are my favorites from your lovely list, but I do think [name]Polina[/name] feels similar to some of your other names (on the “not normal” list?) and might be a good fit.

[name]Aurora[/name] - My favourite.
[name]Holly[/name] - Like. I like [name]Hazel[/name] too.
[name]Laurel[/name] - [name]Love[/name].

My favorite from your list is [name]Isobel[/name], I also like [name]Louise[/name] and [name]Laurel[/name].

I love [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Isobel[/name], and [name]Emma[/name]. Probably in that order. I love [name]Isabelle[/name], but the other spellings don’t appeal to me quite as much. But [name]Isobel[/name] is so regal and lovely.

Good luck!

Haha I force myself to have a ‘normal’ list as well

[name]Hennie[/name] - as a NN to [name]Henrietta[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name] - I love [name]Laurel[/name], it’s just so pretty
[name]Polina[/name] - I’ve never considered this name before, but I must say I really like it! [name]Polly[/name] and [name]Lina[/name] are both wicked NN. The only downfall I see is it sounds very similar to [name]Paulina[/name], which is not one of my favourites to put it mildly.

The last two that nearly made the cut were [name]Emma[/name] and [name]Louise[/name].

I love how some of your “normal” names are still different and uncommon! My vote goes to [name]Holly[/name] and [name]Aurora[/name]! I also like [name]Emma[/name].

Ranking them from favourite to least favourite:

[name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Polina[/name]
[name]Marion[/name]
[name]Isobel[/name]
[name]Emma[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Nessa[/name] (but I’d like it better as a nickname for [name]Nerissa[/name])
[name]Holly[/name]
[name]Vilma[/name]
[name]Louise[/name]
[name]Carmel[/name]
[name]Hennie[/name]

[name]Isobel[/name] is my favorite on your list.

These are all so lovely! A little girl would love to have any of these names and they would all age well too! Good luck to you I hope you choose her perfect name!

[name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Emma[/name]
[name]Holly[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Nessa[/name]

  1. [name]Aurora[/name]
  2. [name]Laurel[/name]
  3. [name]Isobel[/name]

If you want a top 5 I’d add:
4. [name]Marion[/name]
5. [name]Holly[/name]

[name]Marion[/name]
[name]Isobel[/name] (or [name]Ysobel[/name]!)
[name]Polina[/name]
And…[name]Emma[/name]! But if you use [name]Emma[/name] you must let her have a secret longer name (as I do) with [name]Emma[/name] as the name she goes by most of the time. [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Emelyne[/name] (“emma-leen”) or some other spelling of that. It’s a good name to have, popular though it is.
Really though, I think you should go wild and give your children gloriously poetic, mossy, stormy names!

my favorites are: [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Emma[/name], and [name]Laurel[/name].

  1. [name]Polina[/name]-- love this name!
  2. [name]Laurel[/name]-- a very nice alternative to [name]Lauren[/name]
  3. [name]Holly[/name]-- cute and pretty

My favourites:

  1. [name]Nessa[/name]
  2. [name]Marion[/name]
  3. [name]Isobel[/name] - my absolute favourite spelling of this name
  4. [name]Laurel[/name]

I think this is a great idea! ANd even though these are ‘normal’ they all still feel very unique and special to me! I think [name]Hennie[/name] is adorable! And [name]Marion[/name] is beautiful. [name]Aurora[/name] is another fave. I guess those would be my top 3 for you. [name]Nessa[/name] is sweet too. I like [name]Nessie[/name] as a nickname but always too scared it’s too ‘[name]Loch[/name] Ness Monsterish’

[name]Aurora[/name] ALL the way!!! [name]Marion[/name] and [name]Nessa[/name] would make the top three.

In order, my favorite first:

[name]Holly[/name]…has always been a favorite. It has a full, happy sound.
[name]Polina[/name]…is new to me, but I’ve always loved [name]Paulina[/name]. It’s one of the few feminizations that sounds natural to me. A bright, shiny name.
[name]Aurora[/name]…evokes beauty, but is substantial.
[name]Isobel[/name]…seems so much less harsh than [name]Isabel[/name]–I love it. Romantic.
[name]Marion[/name]…I like, but it’s one of those names that a child would have to grow into, to my ear.
[name]Laurel[/name]…is graceful and lilting. [name]Just[/name] don’t let it become [name]Laurie[/name].
[name]Louise[/name]…I like one minute, dislike the next. The -eez syllable just seems harsh.
[name]Emma[/name]…was one of my favorites 15 years ago, but now I know too many young Emmas. I second the motion of a pp–make it [name]Emmaline[/name] or some such.
[name]Nessa[/name]…seems like a nn to me. [name]Vanessa[/name]?
[name]Hennie[/name]…also too insubstantial for a full name.
[name]Vilma[/name]…sorry, but the sound is rather unattractive to me.
