"Normal" names that are uncommon

[name_m]Just[/name_m] looking for “normal” sounding girls’ names, I guess that’d have to be specified to mean anglo country friendly, that are uncommon or slept on. I’m hoping I haven’t heard of every option, just want to find more names to consider because I feel very convinced of one name but because my fiance doesn’t love it I’m trying to find something I feel similarly about.

THE name is: [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]

Runner ups rn with a out 10 ranking of how I feel about them and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] being 10/10

  • [name_f]Idalia[/name_f] 8/10 (I don’t love names ending in A but this might be the exception but I’m not sold)
  • [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] 8/10 (I live in the US, so I’m afraid it will be difficult to wear)
  • [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] 8/10 (Someone pointed out it sounds like ‘hairiest’ and our family is pretty hairy so I can’t lol)
  • [name_f]Ione[/name_f] 7/10 (I like nicknames and I can’t think of any but “Oni”)
  • [name_u]Donnelly[/name_u] 7/10 (My SIL is named [name_f]Donna[/name_f] so IDK)
  • [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] 6/10
  • [name_u]Romilly[/name_u] 5/10

Great list!

[name_f]Idalia[/name_f] is so sweet with such a cool meaning. :sunny:

[name_f]Ione[/name_f] could be nicknamed [name_f]Io[/name_f], which is really fun!

I totally think [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] is wearable.

[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] is awesome, I especially love [name_f]Hattie[/name_f].

[name_u]Romilly[/name_u] is exactly what I would say is “normal, but slept on”. So much nickname potential too!

I might be way off here, but I’ll suggest…

[name_f]Cosette[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f]Enid[/name_f]
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], [name_f]Ione[/name_f], and [name_u]Romilly[/name_u]!

Thank you for such a long list!
From your list I like:
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] (probably not for us as our first is [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and I’m not sure want another name with 2 Rs)
[name_f]Judith[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] (same issue as Marjorie)
[name_u]Florence[/name_u]

You’re not far off! I like [name_f]Verity[/name_f], [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] (my bff has an [name_m]Otto[/name_m] though), [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f], and [name_f]Opal[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Opal[/name_f] the most, but that’s with the nn. [name_f]Polly[/name_f] and it’s not real obvious and I hate the Opie nn I see more often.

Agree with @heartwings normal is subjective but here are some ideas that may equate to your concept of normal

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps

I love [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], Romilly/Romy, [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] & [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]. But stats aside, these aren’t names I think of when I think of names being slept on or undervalued.

To me, as mostly [name_f]Belle[/name_f] Epoque/Gilded and pre WW2 era names, or names we associate with that time (whether real or not), these are bang on trend - I guess then you could say then they’re “normal” and yes still not individually super common (but as a set they are if that makes sense).

You already have a lot of suggestions but others might be: [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Gloria[/name_f], [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], [name_u]Celeste[/name_u], [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] & [name_f]Eugénie[/name_f].

I immediately thought you were emphasising “normal” which to me is more the Boomer/Gen X names slowly re-emerging, like [name_f]Susan[/name_f], [name_f]Alison[/name_f], [name_f]Barbara[/name_f], [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f], [name_f]Virginia[/name_f], [name_f]Judy[/name_f], [name_f]Janet[/name_f], [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f], [name_f]Pamela[/name_f], [name_f]Diane[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_u]Lauren[/name_u], [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], [name_f]Melissa[/name_f], [name_f]Heather[/name_f] & [name_u]Nicola[/name_u].

I just wanted to say I know “normal” is subjective, that’s why I specified anglo country friendly, probably more accurately American friendly but I tend to like names that are more popular in the UK, AUS, [name_u]Ireland[/name_u], etc. Thank you everyone for their suggestions but I guess I’m a bit annoyed everyone’s getting hung up on “normal” when I explained what I meant by it. I mostly meant culturally appropriate (I wouldn’t give my white child a [name_u]Desi[/name_u], Arabic, etc name), an established name (not made up), not a word name that’s not a virtue or nature, etc, name that’s not unheard of.

Based on your list (and the US top names):

[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_u]Florence[/name_u]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Heather[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
[name_u]Waverly[/name_u]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_f]Jolene[/name_f]
[name_u]Cadence[/name_u]
[name_f]Luella[/name_f]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
