Not common on Nameberry

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Team,

I thought it would be fun to hear suggestions of any names that you perceive as “common” or “familiar” but don’t often hear it mentioned in nameberry forums.

My examples would be:

[name_m]Jared[/name_m], [name_m]Damien[/name_m], [name_m]Irving[/name_m], [name_m]Timothy[/name_m]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_f]Alanna[/name_f], [name_f]Nicole[/name_f], [name_u]Penny[/name_u]

[name_m]Paul[/name_m]! I get that it’s simple, but it’s as timeless and versatile as [name_u]James[/name_u].
[name_m]Ethan[/name_m]
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Adrian[/name_m]
[name_m]Omar[/name_m]
[name_u]Skyler[/name_u]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u]
[name_u]London[/name_u]
[name_u]Haley[/name_u]
[name_f]Valeria[/name_f] (I love this one!)
Anything ultra contemporary and trendy, i. e. [name_u]Madison[/name_u], the -ayden names, [name_f]Kayla[/name_f], [name_f]McKenna[/name_f]… (Well, they do get some hate. And I understand why and have the same opinion; I’m just saying that Nameberries’ tastes tend toward less common/ahead of the curve names).

And pretty much anything non-European ethnic. These are names that I hear all the time, but I live in a diverse area in [name_u]California[/name_u]:
[name_m]Juan[/name_m], [name_u]Andre[/name_u], [name_m]Carlos[/name_m], [name_m]Muhammed[/name_m], [name_m]Jose[/name_m], [name_u]Angel[/name_u], [name_f]Monique[/name_f], [name_m]Alejandro[/name_m], [name_m]Manuel[/name_m], [name_m]Malik[/name_m], [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f], [name_m]Antwan[/name_m], [name_u]Dominique[/name_u], D’[name_u]Andre[/name_u], [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f], [name_m]Deshawn[/name_m], [name_m]Reginald[/name_m], [name_f]Deja[/name_f]…

This is a good idea, I suppose many Nameberry users are here because they prefer more unusual names, thus making them seem popular!

[name_f]Jessica[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Yasmin[/name_f]
[name_f]Bethan[/name_f]
[name_u]Shannon[/name_u]
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]/[name_u]Abbie[/name_u]
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f]

[name_m]Ben[/name_m]
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]/[name_m]Tom[/name_m]
[name_m]Richard[/name_m]
[name_m]Adam[/name_m]
[name_m]Connor[/name_m]

Also names that haven’t quite cycled back into popularity yet. I’ve seen a couple pop up in forums lately that got no love but definitely have potential because they’re familiar but not popular for babies right now.

[name_f]Judith[/name_f]
[name_f]Barbara[/name_f]
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_f]Deborah[/name_f]
[name_f]Patricia[/name_f]

A name that I see all the time on kids but not as often on here [name_f]Samantha[/name_f]. I always wondered about that.

There are quite a few popular British names that I rarely see on Nameberry - [name_u]Alfie[/name_u], [name_m]Archie[/name_m], [name_m]Jenson[/name_m], [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], [name_f]Darcie[/name_f].

A lot of common non-English names rarely get mentioned here, which I suppose is understandable given that it’s an American website.

I always see the same [name_m]French[/name_m] & Italian names getting repeated on this website. A lot of the names that are actually pretty high up on the lists in these countries get side eyed on here (esp. boy names). Like @choupette I understand why because it’s an American website.

I really went for it with my first son and I get allllll the weird looks and people asking me ALL THE TIME how I chose to “make-up his name” but it has always been really well received in naming forums, so I think there’s an interesting dichotomy between real world and online.

Anywho, some names I hear a lot or think of as really familiar but don’t see often on Nameberry, for various reasons, are…
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Carly[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Erin[/name_f]
[name_f]Hayley[/name_f]
[name_f]Kinley[/name_f]
[name_f]Leah[/name_f]
[name_f]Paige[/name_f]

[name_m]Aaron[/name_m]
[name_m]Collin[/name_m]
[name_m]Eric[/name_m]
[name_m]Ethan[/name_m]
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m]
[name_m]Jason[/name_m]
[name_m]Joshua[/name_m]
[name_u]Michael[/name_u]
[name_m]Robert[/name_m]
[name_u]Ryan[/name_u]
[name_m]Stephen[/name_m]

It’s especially interesting to hear from different parts of the world, maybe common name to you will be fresh to someone else

I really like [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f], [name_f]Paige[/name_f] and [name_u]Alfie[/name_u]

[name_u]Darcey[/name_u], [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], and [name_u]Alfie[/name_u]!

Haha! Have to echo the part about the non-European names! [name_f]Every[/name_f] time there’s a “list names you’ve heard/are related to/your grandparents name” thread, I feel so out of it.

I love that someone else mentioned [name_m]Paul[/name_m]! I was just thinking about this name and how it’s rarely discussed. I’m wondering what everyone’s thoughts are on it.

Names that are popular but rarely come up… hm…

[name_m]Mark[/name_m] is rarely mentioned, or even its other variants, like [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] and [name_m]Marco[/name_m].
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Steven[/name_m]
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m]

Maybe these are just so familiar and/or dated, but I don’t see them mentioned as much.

[name_m]Patrick[/name_m]
[name_u]Michael[/name_u]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m]
[name_u]Fionn[/name_u]
[name_m]Cillian[/name_m]
[name_m]Cian[/name_m]

[name_f]Aoife[/name_f]
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Fay[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]

[name_m]Paul[/name_m] is very dated in the UK! It’s one of those names that are so not cool to name your kid. The youngest [name_m]Paul[/name_m] I know must be 24 now, the oldest in his late 60s. It’s like [name_m]Graham[/name_m], [name_m]Dennis[/name_m] (there was a 25 year old [name_m]Dennis[/name_m] at my work once and everyone was like… “[name_m]Dennis[/name_m]? Your name’s [name_m]Dennis[/name_m]?” and assumed he was at least 40, obviously before they met him), [name_m]Peter[/name_m] (I know a lot of Peters who are 40+ and go by [name_m]Pete[/name_m]), etc.

Anyway…

[name_u]Bradley[/name_u]
[name_u]Shaun[/name_u]
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Adam[/name_m]
[name_u]Ryan[/name_u]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m]
[name_u]Kieran[/name_u] (and all variants, like [name_m]Ciaran[/name_m], Cieran, [name_m]Keiran[/name_m])
[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]
[name_u]Freddie[/name_u]
[name_m]Archie[/name_m]
[name_u]Alfie[/name_u]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Harry[/name_m]

[name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Jessica[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosie[/name_f]
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]
[name_f]Paige[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] (as a first name only)
[name_f]Jade[/name_f]
[name_f]Keira[/name_f] (again, all variants, so [name_f]Ciera[/name_f], [name_f]Ciara[/name_f], [name_f]Kira[/name_f], [name_f]Kiera[/name_f])
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Beth[/name_f]/[name_f]Bethan[/name_f]/[name_f]Bethany[/name_f]
