[name_m]Ned[/name_m] will forever remind me of [name_m]Ned[/name_m] Nickerson from [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] [name_u]Drew[/name_u] (love him), the perfect boyfriend.
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] is a good strong name but he might get teased (or maybe his generation would be beyond that I don’t know).
I love the name [name_m]Linus[/name_m] too. I’ve never met one in real life but as characters they are usually sweet and a little nerdy (but in a good way).
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is a very versatile name. It was so popular for so long basically any kind of boy could easily be a [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] or [name_m]Joe[/name_m].
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] sounds preppy, but approachable.
I think [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] or [name_m]Edward[/name_m] would go best with [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and maybe eventually [name_f]Anne[/name_f] too ([name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_m]Joe[/name_m], and [name_f]Annie[/name_f] is such an adorable sibset)
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]/[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] would be perfect. [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] also sprang to mind.
I love your style!
[name_m]Edward[/name_m] ([name_m]Ned[/name_m]) - Great name! I picture a strong, handsome young man with a strong sense of humor. Definitely has a strong quality of leadership as well.
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] - This is a very underused classic. I also sense strength and power in the name [name_m]Peter[/name_m]. Very athletic and academically inclined.
[name_m]Linus[/name_m] - [name_m]Linus[/name_m] is a soft hearted boy. He is very artistically inclined and loves to learn about music!
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m] - The strongest of all of these. [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] not only leads his peers, but protects them as well. He is the boy everyone wants for his best friend.
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] - [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] has a mind of his own. He is very classy and wants the best of everything. [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] will work hard to make his dreams come true.
Best of luck in making a choice for your little Dec. baby!
I really like [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] (just [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], not [name_m]Joe[/name_m] or [name_u]Joey[/name_u]) or [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] the most. [name_m]Peter[/name_m] would be my third pick. I’m not really a fan of [name_m]Linus[/name_m] or [name_m]Edward[/name_m] nn [name_m]Ned[/name_m]
*[name_m]Edward[/name_m] nn [name_m]Ned[/name_m] is pretty cute. [name_m]Ned[/name_m] & [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] & [name_m]Ned[/name_m]. ADORABLE. As for what [name_m]Ned[/name_m] makes me picture…hmm, I see a teen who gets good grades but isn’t showy about it. I see him having really quality friends, perhaps mostly female friends because he values them as individuals rather than always assessing their date-ability. I also picture him always having a good joke at the ready but not loud like a class clown.
*[name_m]Peter[/name_m] is a very strong name. I picture someone very reliable, very protective…definitely one of the guys. I see him having a big group of guy friends, possibly a sports-team. If [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] goes only by her full name, [name_m]Peter[/name_m] pairs great with it. [name_m]Peter[/name_m] & [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. Totally respectable. The lawyer and the doctor.
*[name_m]Linus[/name_m]–my first thought was “aww, [name_m]Linus[/name_m]!” I can see [name_m]Linus[/name_m] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] being very close. Maybe [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] has to stick up for him sometimes but if anyone tried to hurt [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], then he’d be there to protect/defend her. [name_m]Linus[/name_m] is the son that all the other parents say is “such a nice boy”. All the fathers in the neighborhood say their daughters can’t date until they’re thirty, but [name_m]Linus[/name_m] has the mothers’ permission to marry any one of their daughters. [name_m]Linus[/name_m] is a man who is going to make something of himself.
*[name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is a really good name. If you want a kid that’s wicked-smart and just a bit quirky, [name_u]Joss[/name_u] is a great nn option. [name_u]Joss[/name_u] & [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. [name_u]Joss[/name_u] & [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. [name_u]Joss[/name_u] & [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]. All sound delectable. If you prefer the full name, [name_m]Joseph[/name_m], I picture a very polite, very well-mannered and very sweet boy. I picture an interest in the sciences–perhaps astronomy. [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] sound like two very well-behaved and caring people.
*[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] is swoonworthy! I picture a tall athletic blond with green eyes. He’s got a sort of laughing face that just makes you want to smile when you look at it. He very rarely has down days. He’s just glad to be around people and spread his positive attitude. He’s a leader, but mostly because he’s so likable, people choose to be around him and do what he’s doing. I also like the nn option [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], but I’m sensing your [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] would go by his legal name.
[name_m]Edward[/name_m] ([name_m]Ned[/name_m]) and [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] are my favorites with [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]-- all classic and elegant with great nns!
[name_m]Edward[/name_m] - I picture a very smart serious man who loves to read and spends a lot of time with his family.
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] - [name_m]Peter[/name_m] makes me picture a tall blond man in his twenties, who’s very friendly and has a great sense of humor.
[name_m]Linus[/name_m] - [name_m]Linus[/name_m] is a handsome artist with quirky personality.
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m] - [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is a very kind and understanding man. Hard worker and smiles a lot.
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] - [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] is a tall slender man with longish dark curly hair. Very intelligent and a bit shy.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites from your list are [name_m]Linus[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] would be perfect with sister [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].
[name_m]Edward[/name_m] ([name_m]Ned[/name_m]) - [name_m]Edward[/name_m] and [name_m]Ned[/name_m] have very different vibes to me! With [name_m]Edward[/name_m], I think of [name_m]Edward[/name_m] [name_u]Fairfax[/name_u] [name_m]Rochester[/name_m] (mainly because I’m reading [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f] right now!), someone who holds things very close to the vest, a bit of an enigma, hangs out on his own, but has a heart that feels everything, and he’s probably quite a bit sensitive, too. Also very bookish and smart. But a wee bit more honorable than [name_m]Rochester[/name_m] in his motives, haha! But [name_m]Ned[/name_m], I see him as quirky and nature-loving, not really in the in-crowd, but very friendly and kind, and while his emotions may not be flashy and fiery like [name_m]Edward[/name_m], he does feel very deeply. I think more of [name_m]Ned[/name_m] from Pushing Daisies when it comes to [name_m]Ned[/name_m].
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] - och, be still my beating heart! I adore [name_m]Peter[/name_m], and I think of my favorite kind of guy with the name. Intelligent, maybe even a bit bookish (or even bookish-nerdy), but kind and loving and strong. The kind of guy you could talk to about anything, from your rotten day to what a Shakespearean play is all about to what you really believe, deep down in your heart, about life and faith and hope and God (or the lack thereof). The kind of guy who dreams of having kids and would be the best dad ever, respectable in his community and job, and well-loved by all. A wee bit quirky, but [name_m]Peter[/name_m] just feels like home to me. I just get these cuddly, ooey-gooey feelings when I think of [name_m]Peter[/name_m], haha.
[name_m]Linus[/name_m] - I adore [name_m]Linus[/name_m], too! I think of a quirky, shy little boy, talented (maybe plays the piano? I always confuse [name_m]Linus[/name_m] and Schroeder; I loved [name_m]Linus[/name_m] for years BECAUSE I thought he was the kid always pounding away at the piano!), a mama’s boy, kind, studious, a total clown around those he’s comfortable with.
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m] - I think of a very down-to-earth, friendly, easy-to-talk-to guy. Someone who isn’t afraid to be best friends with a girl, and rather proves that chivalry isn’t dead. [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is honestly such a commonly used classic that I can see any sort of guy wearing [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] well. I have three Josephs in my life that I’m pretty familiar with–one is loud and almost brash (and somewhat abrasive, if you’re a totally different personality type?) and very friendly, works as a plummer, is passionate about his family and youth ministry; the second is a teen in my church, very quiet, very into video games, fiercely loyal to his friends, a great piano player (although it’s taken him years to get up front, because he’s so shy and gets stage fright pretty bad); the last is a guy I met through my bus driver from high school–he went to her church and she thought we should talk. haha! He’s rather quiet and doesn’t really fit in with most social groups and never felt like he fit in, but he’s a great guy (one of the best I’ve known), very kind, and so easy to talk to. He has these intriguing layers of depth to his mind, it was just fascinating to hear him think and talk.
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] - erm, well, I have a very limited view of [name_m]Hugh[/name_m], haha. For some reason, all I see is a Scottish guy striking a dramatic pose that seems to scream “I’m a muscly hot guy, look at me!” in a dramatic bass voice (think [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Earl[/name_m] [name_m]Jones[/name_m], haha!), with his shirtsleeves rolled up to his elbows and his muscles rippling in the northern Scottish wind. ha! I like [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] a lot, but I just have a really hard time picturing a guy wearing the name. They both feel very quirky and smart, and I inevitably think of [name_m]Victor[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], whom I adore.
I love them all, honestly, but [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_m]Linus[/name_m], and [name_m]Edward[/name_m] are my favorites. But och, [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] are so great, too! You honestly can’t go wrong.
[name_m]Edward[/name_m] ([name_m]Ned[/name_m]) - I love [name_m]Edward[/name_m] but I prefer the nicknames [name_m]Ed[/name_m] or [name_m]Eddie[/name_m]. [name_m]Ned[/name_m] reminds me of [name_m]Ned[/name_m] Flanders from the Simpsons.
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] - I love [name_m]Peter[/name_m].
[name_m]Linus[/name_m] - This name sounds really slimy to me for some reason. Wouldn’t be my pick.
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m] - I like [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] well enough, but where I am (Australia), it feels overused and if you’re looking for an underused name, this one probably won’t fit the bill.
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] - [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] sound lovely together!
So my top names from your list are [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] and (if the nickname isn’t [name_m]Ned[/name_m]) [name_m]Edward[/name_m]. I also second ciottolo’s mention of [name_m]Benedict[/name_m]. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] would make awesome siblings!
I’d go [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] or [name_m]Edward[/name_m]. Of the three, [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] is my pick. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], and [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] is a awesome sibset.
Other ideas: favorites bolded
[name_m]Andrew[/name_m] (nickname could be [name_u]Drew[/name_u])
[name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_u]Douglas[/name_u]
[name_m]Richard[/name_m]
Thanks so much for all the feedback. Great imagery here! At the moment, based on these comments I’m loving [name_m]Peter[/name_m] I think, with [name_m]Ned[/name_m] a close second. As for nicknames, in general we like them. When [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] was born we called her [name_f]Mamie[/name_f] for a few months but we got tired of people asking if we made up the name or mispronouncing it Mammy, so we switched to [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. Our families still call her [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], but without even intending to, we mostly call her [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. So, with most of the names on the list we would plan to use a nickname ([name_f]Annie[/name_f] for [name_f]Anne[/name_f], [name_m]Ned[/name_m], [name_m]Pete[/name_m], [name_m]Joe[/name_m], maybe even [name_m]Huey[/name_m]), but we also know that nicknames are a bit more organic and that the child could end up going by a full name or a different nickname.
Thanks again and keep the feedback coming!
I love [name_m]Peter[/name_m] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] together!
