I recently put a thread up asking for opinions on the name [name_u]Holland[/name_u] for a future daughter and it got mixed reviews. While I was given suggestions for potential nicknames [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] was brought up and I am starting to really love it. What do you all think? If we named a future daughter [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] do you think we would run into many problems with it? Can the name be taken serious on a 30 year old women? Thanks berries!
I think [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] is a good nickname but not a good full name. I think that HollaAnd is fine and that [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] is a great nickname for it. Plus I know a little girl named [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] and I and many others love her name so I don’t see a problem with Hollaand.
I think [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] is a great name for an adult woman. It may be a bit heavy for a child, but [name_f]Holly[/name_f] or Holls is always a NN choice for a child. I say go for it!
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u] is a surname rather than a given name to me. If I saw a 30 year old woman named [name_u]Hollis[/name_u], I would be wondering why she goes by her surname instead of her given name. I dislike [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] as a given name on a girl but I do like [name_f]Holly[/name_f].
I know a man named [name_u]Hollis[/name_u]
So sorry I really wouldn’t be the one to ask about this for a little girl…I didn’t even know it was s first names, much less a girls name, until recently. I do like [name_u]Holland[/name_u] and [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] for a girl
I would take a grown woman named [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] seriously, but I can’t see the name on a little girl. Like previous posters mentioned, [name_f]Holly[/name_f] could work as a great nickname for when she’s younger.
As the “[name_u]Hollis[/name_u]” suggester, I think I like [name_u]Holland[/name_u] as the name and [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] as the nn. But I think both wear well on a little girl and on an older woman.
Remembering that you didn’t like [name_f]Holly[/name_f], I think if you go with [name_u]Holland[/name_u], you can use [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] as the nn; if you go with [name_u]Hollis[/name_u], people will still want to shorten it, and you risk … [name_f]Holly[/name_f]!
I just don’t love surname-names in general. I think [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] would be fine on a grown woman, it’s just not to my taste.
I actually love [name_u]Holland[/name_u] as a given name and she could go by [name_u]Hollis[/name_u], [name_f]Hollie[/name_f], [name_f]Andie[/name_f], even [name_u]Landry[/name_u].
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u] is certainly usable as a given name, as well as [name_u]Holland[/name_u].
I like [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] a lot! I don’t know anyone named [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] but I could see it on a child or a grown woman (or a grown man, for that matter - it seems pretty unisex to me which isn’t a bad thing!)
I really like [name_u]Hollis[/name_u], I think it makes a great name for a girl. Also, what about [name_u]Ellis[/name_u]?
I prefer [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] as a nn for [name_u]Holland[/name_u]. I actually prefer [name_u]Holland[/name_u] and think it’s really cute. For me [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] as a full name seems masculine.
I think [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] is nice, and would work fine on an adult woman.
I think it’s a nice name that would be fitting on a little girl or adult woman and the NN Hol, [name_f]Oly[/name_f] or even Lissy would be sweet.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] andie or lana as nn for holland. [name_u]Holland[/name_u] is my moms maiden name and I love it for a little girl :)!
I think [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] can work on a little girl. It’s in the same realm as [name_f]Alice[/name_f], I think people generally overthink these things. I also think [name_u]Holland[/name_u] is an okay first name as well.
I have not seen your previous thread, but I much prefer [name_u]Holland[/name_u] to [name_u]Hollis[/name_u].
Daddy’s name is [name_m]Eli[/name_m] so [name_u]Ellis[/name_u] wouldn’t work out.
I like [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] even though I’m not sure I like it for a girl. I do like it more than [name_u]Holland[/name_u] though. But I’m Dutch and seeing people with that name Always seems weird to me. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] nn [name_f]Holly[/name_f]??
The only thing is… the name reminds me of something. A character of a book I think. I just can’t remember what…
I know a beautiful little girl named [name_u]Hollis[/name_u]. She wears it very well!
