[name]Hi[/name] Everyone, I wanted to introduce myself. I’m new to this board. Hubby and I are expecting our first baby and we’re in search of a perfect name. At this point, we don’t know if it’s a boy or girl because it’s still early. We just started talking about names a few days ago, and so far we can’t agree on anything other than the fact that we are both drawn to names that start with a V. A co-worker told me today that V names are considered trendy right now. I was very disappointed because we want to stay as far away from trendy names as possible. So I guess to kick things off, I’m looking for a boy and girl name starting with a V that is not trendy. Could you recommend a name that fits this criteria?
[name]Vasiliy[/name] and [name]Vito[/name] are two of my favourite boy ‘v’ names. I wouldn’t call them trendy. Then there’s [name]Victor[/name], [name]Vitaly[/name], [name]Vittorio[/name].
Girls… [name]Victoria[/name] isn’t popular at the moment. [name]Violet[/name] is lovely but that’s picking up, as is [name]Viola[/name]. [name]Valentina[/name] perhaps?
The only V names I’d say are REALLY trending up right now are [name]Vivienne[/name]/[name]Vivian[/name] and [name]Violet[/name], which have seen a big resurgence in use over the past few years. Some of my suggestions aren’t trendy because they’re classic (they still get a fair bit of use, but that’s ok) while others aren’t trendy because they don’t get much of any use. That said, I recognize that some of these might be considered “trendy” because they fall into other trends (like O endings, surnames, place names, etc.)–but I tried to use ones that aren’t really getting any actual use.

I’m a huge fan of [name]Victor[/name] and [name]Vincent[/name] for boys, but I feel like they’re going to be popular soon. For girls I love [name]Violet[/name], despite its growing popularity :-(. But I also love [name]Viveca[/name] and [name]Vienna[/name]. Good luck! We’re in the same boat as you; the Hubs won’t agree to anything I choose, but thankfully we still have 4 months before baby is born.
