Nothing seems perfect

I’m having a terrible time coming up with a name that I love. I go back and forth and nothing really seems to fit. Please give me your opinion. A few are names I like, but probably wouldn’t use and others are ones that I love, but just can’t see it working. I like feminine names that border on frilly, but I do like some trendy names too. I’m not into super unique or obscure names. I’m probably boring to most of you. Please give me your opinion on which names you hate and which ones are not the best choice and why.

Here’s my list:

Briar - It’s something in theory that I’d like to use, but just doesn’t feel right.

Whitley - I like it, but I don’t love it

Waverly - I like it, but couldn’t imagine

Phoebe - Like, but not in love

Scarlett - seems overused

Isla - I love, but is it too short?

Arabella with nn [name_f]Bella[/name_f]

Ansley - I loved it when I was 18, but now as an adult, I find myself second guessing it. It’s not to be mistaken with [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]. I do love it though.

Stella - I like it, still feels wrong

Sophie - I prefer [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], but that name is so overdone.

Aria - I like, but feels overused

Blair - I really like this name, but just cannot picture it. In my mind it sounds pretty, but when I say it in my own voice it feels very bleh to me.

Aurora- another name that is so hard to say, but visually looks beautiful to me.

Off the bat with your list I would cut those you like and are just not in love with.

Ansley, [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] I would make your shortlist.

And of your names and all your concerns only once did you say “I love” and that was [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. And no it’s not too short and where it could be short you could make up in the middle department. Keep that at the top. After [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] because you put it without any concern mentioned.

I totally understand! It’s hard to find the perfect name that has the sound, popularity, look, and vibe that you are looking for. In general, I would toss out the names you can’t envision yourself using. From your descriptions, I think that includes [name_u]Blair[/name_u], [name_u]Waverly[/name_u] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. You may come around to the names you “like but don’t love,” and popular names can trend downward so you are more inclined to use them in the future!

The only names I don’t love are [name_f]Ansley[/name_f] and [name_u]Whitley[/name_u], but that’s just because they’re not my style. There!/ certainly nothing wrong with either.

One of my favorites is [name_u]Blair[/name_u], maybe you like [name_f]Claire[/name_f] better? I also like [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Aria[/name_f].

Believing in a name being ‘perfect’ is like believing in love at first sight. It is one way of deciding and certainly possible but it’s also possible that a name will grow on you, and on the named person, over time until you can’t imagine any other name
You said you love [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. I don’t personally think it’s too short, I know an [name_f]Isla[/name_f] in real life and that never occurred to me. A longer alternative that sounds similar is [name_f]Eilish[/name_f], or maybe [name_f]Ilona[/name_f]. An alternative spelling (different name with similar pronunciation) is [name_f]Ayla[/name_f].
If [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] seems over used why not [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] or Saffiya or [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f].
I feel like [name_f]Ansley[/name_f] would be confused with [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] unfortunately, just as [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u] is so much more popular. I think you might run into this problem with [name_u]Whitley[/name_u] and [name_u]Whitney[/name_u] too.
[name_u]Blair[/name_u] and [name_u]Briar[/name_u] seem quite similar in sound and look to me, and I know what you mean about bleh pronunciation - it’s the same when I say it. Maybe they might be better as middles?
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f] is beautiful and so is [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] (could have nn [name_f]Aura[/name_f] or [name_u]Rory[/name_u])

Isla sounds just right -short, sweet and bright

Ansley is also gorgeous and I like [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] for you too

I was surprised by how interesting and lovely your names are after reading that you were worried about boring fellow Berries!
I always say this about [name_f]Isla[/name_f]: Despite its popularity (number 3 in the UK where I live) it always retains an exotic vibe for me, with its island associations! [name_f]Alanis[/name_f] and [name_f]Ilanys[/name_f] feel like they combine [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Ansley[/name_f] together.

I’m sorry you’re not having fun with your name search at the moment. Please feel free to make more posts if this would help. We love to think of name suggestions… if you are tired of looking, let us do some work for you…it’s such a fun hobby and one of the things 2020 can’t restrict!
Alternatively you might just want to take a step back for a little while, if you’re getting stressed out.

You name list is gorgeous!
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites from your list are
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Ansley[/name_f]
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]

I also really like [name_u]Blair[/name_u] and [name_u]Briar[/name_u] but I see what your saying . Maybe A different spelling [name_m]Bryer[/name_m] ? [name_u]Or[/name_u] using it as a middle

Arabella [name_u]Briar[/name_u]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_f]Ansley[/name_f] [name_m]Bryer[/name_m]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_u]Blair[/name_u]

Hi there.

Here are my thoughts on your list-

Briar - It’s something in theory that I’d like to use, but just doesn’t feel right.

I like it too. I like how it’s a floral name, but not super frilly. It’s simple but not over done. I agree that I wouldn’t personally use it, just because it seems a little not quite like a name…if that makes sense. But I wouldn’t advise anyone else not to use it. It’s an interesting choice.

Whitley - I like it, but I don’t love it

It does seem a bit trendy & more like a last name. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_u]Whitney[/name_u]? I think that is cuter.

Waverly - I like it, but couldn’t imagine

Yeah, same as above. But interesting & not awful.

Phoebe - Like, but not in love

Oh, I like this one! It’s spunky & clever & vintage but still seems fresh.

Scarlett - seems overused

It is so over used. And I personally like [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f] more, but that would just be a headache. I like the red flower imagery here, but then sometimes the ‘scar’ part of this name just sounds unpleasant.

Isla - I love, but is it too short?

I think it’s really pretty, but probably at least as popular as [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].

Arabella with nn [Bella]

Ooh, I like this one! [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] is frilly but sounds down to earth. And [name_f]Bella[/name_f] is just beautiful, although a tad too common.

Ansley - I loved it when I was 18, but now as an adult, I find myself second guessing it. It’s not to be mistaken with. I do love it though.

I think that this would definitely be mistaken for [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]. Neither have a very pleasant sound in my opinion.

Stella - I like it, still feels wrong

I like [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. It’s smart & glamorous & vintage. Pretty popular, but a great classic name.

Sophie - I prefer [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], but that name is so overdone.

I like that [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] & [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] are both very over done. Nice names though. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not exciting.

Aria - I like, but feels overused

Way over used, but worst of all, it’s over used because it’s popular due to pop culture. That makes it less special in my opinion.

Blair - I really like this name, but just cannot picture it. In my mind it sounds pretty, but when I say it in my own voice it feels very bleh to me.

Yeah, it’s just okay. Remind me of a snobby girl.

Aurora- another name that is so hard to say, but visually looks beautiful to me.

I have the same thoughts as you here. It looks & feels beautiful, but just sounds off when you say it out loud.

Would you like some suggestions? Based on your style, maybe you’d like…

[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there! I don’t think your names are boring at all! I am also one to worry about popularity, and that used to cause me to throw names out purely because of it. However, I say go with your heart and what feels right. Especially if there is no one in your immediate circle with said names.

I would start by eliminating the names you only “like”, or you can save them for the middle spot too!

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites for you, from your list:
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] - One of my favorites too! It’s beautiful, spunky, yet very feminine
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f] - Another I love
[name_u]Blair[/name_u] - If you’re worried about pronunciation, perhaps save for the middle spot?
[name_f]Ansley[/name_f] - It might be confused with [name_u]Ainsley[/name_u], but other names get misread/mispronounced too, might just take a few corrections.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - Again, maybe for the middle if you love it enough

Some suggestions that came to mind for you:
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aviana[/name_f]
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f]

It’s a weird one isn’t it because sometimes you love the idea of something on paper and in your head but then you say it out loud or with your surname and you instantly know its wrong… The name you seem to like most is [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and I don’t think that it’s too short at all. Sometimes less is more anyway! This is a really beautiful yet simple name, I’m not sure you can go wrong with it.

Potential suggestions based on your list:
