Hey Berries,
I am currently pregnant with #2, but we don’t know the gender yet. Our favorite girl names right now are [name_f]Violet[/name_f], & [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. The only problem is that our last name is also a noun. Our last name is more of an abstract noun, but let’s use [name_f]Street[/name_f] as an example for our last name. Does [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Street[/name_f] or [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Street[/name_f] just sound too much like places to work for a baby? That is one of the reasons we are considering [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] over [name_f]Rose[/name_f] even though it is a bit frilly. Thoughts? Am I reading into it too much?
I think the names sound fine. They only started to sound weird after I said them over and over. I think that having a noun first name with a noun last name is actually kind of cute.
Let me know if you need suggestions for noun names!
I think [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Violet[/name_f] will be fine with your surname
Word surnames can be tricky, I feel your pain!
However, [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] are both extremely familiar and well-established names, which I think helps to dilute the “wordiness” a lot.
Something like [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] [name_f]Street[/name_f] or [name_f]Miracle[/name_f] [name_f]Street[/name_f] would be too much, but [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Street[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Street[/name_f] sounds just fine to me.
Unless you genuinely prefer [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], I wouldn’t use a similar name you like less just to avoid this issue. You’d probably end up calling her [name_f]Rose[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosie[/name_f] for short anyway, which kind of negates the point.
Thank you so much for the perspective. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] with our last name gave me a tiny bit of pause initially, but names like [name_f]Miracle[/name_f] or [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] sound down right ridiculous with our last name. That definitely helps me figure out what noun first names are fine and which ones might sound silly.
I realize [name_f]Street[/name_f] isn’t your last name but I have actually met a boy named C0urt $treet before! So I think something like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Street[/name_f] or [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Street[/name_f] would be fine. I agree with [name_f]Katinka[/name_f], I think [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] are established names which tames the wordiness.
Congratulations for your baby number 2!
I understand your concerns. I’m crazy about noun names. Of course it always depends on the first name and last, but I usually think that noun first names and noun middle or noun last names sound adorable and exquisite.
I love [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] for a girl too!
Good luck!
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] are so well established as names, i think it’s fine
I feel like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] are becoming a little too common. Additionally, [name_f]Rose[/name_f] wouldn’t flow that well with a one-syllable surname.
I really like [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. It’s melodic, you don’t hear it often, and it would flow really well with the one-syllable last name.
[name_f]My[/name_f] husband does have a relative who he hasn’t met named [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f] that shares our last name. I have always wondered if her parent’s are hippies and what she thinks of her name.
[name_f]My[/name_f] actual last name is two syllables. I just used [name_f]Street[/name_f] as an example of our noun last name because although the amount of syllables are different, my last name is a place noun although more abstract than [name_f]Street[/name_f].
