Number Names

So I’m starting on a new writing project. I’ve hit writer’s block on the novel I’ve been working on so to keep myself writing, I’m starting a new project. This is going to be a sort of sci-fi/fantasy cross over that explores String [name]Theory[/name] and the Multiverse. My main characters live in a totalitarian society, where everything they do is closely monitored, like the type of food they eat, the way they bathe and keep themselves clean, how they give birth, what they name their babies, even down to what is acceptable on a child (things like curly hair and freckles are taken out of the genetics during the genetic counseling during pregnancy).

I want the characters to start out having number names. They won’t always have number names, but the adults do. I’m think about my main male character being named [name]Seven[/name], and I’d love your opinion on that.

What are some other number names (in English or any other language) that could go on a boy or girl?

[name]EDIT[/name]: As for [name]Seven[/name], I really like it. I prefer it to the ones I suggested for seven.

I remember an old cartoon called Gundam [name]Wing[/name] where all the main characters had number names. It was pretty cool!

Here’s a website that lists one through ten in a bunch of languages: http://justmegawatt.com/tutorials/counttoten.html

Some of my favorites are:
GIRLS: Lima (5), [name]Hana[/name] (1), Diez (10), Ayne (1), [name]Char[/name] (4), Thalatha (3), Sab’a (7), Ashara (10), Tria (3), Tessera (5), Epta (7), Dess (10)
BOYS: Miden (0), Ithayn (2), Ahdin (1), [name]Otto[/name] (8), Nove (9), Quatre (4), Sept (7), Deux (2), Nueve (9), Duo (2)

There’s also a NB blog post about this:

I really like [name]Prima[/name], [name]Sixtine[/name], [name]Una[/name], [name]Octavia[/name], and [name]Nona[/name]. I have more trouble with boys number names, although I’ve always liked [name]Trip[/name] for “triple” if someone’s a [name]John[/name] [name]Smith[/name] III.

Thanks you guys! I’m glad no one got on to me about wanting to use these number names (I was afraid that the nameberry crowd might be a little adverse to it) and I think there’s some pretty good suggestions. I’m going to have all the main characters renaming themselves at some point.

So what do you guys think of this:

In this society, the new thing is bright colors and what not (sort of like the society from Hunger Games or the Pretties book) so people like blue and purple and whatnot for their hair and eyes, normal colors are considered “to commoner”.

My main guy is blue hair, blue eyes, sharp features, very white skin, slender and compact. He’s a fighter jet pilot. Sometimes he can be a pushover, he’s sensitive towards his family, and has strong core values. This is the one I want to name [name]Seven[/name].
Does [name]Seven[/name] fit him do you think, and also, when he renames himself, I was think about [name]Tevin[/name]. (It’s close to his original name and he’d feel comfortable with it). [name]Tevin[/name] means “beautiful at birth” or “fair and gentle” according to baby name world. What do you think?

Latin is good for number names. I had a little fun since I know these suggestions are for characters instead actual people. [name]Don[/name]'t know how crazy the naming would get in a world like that, but here’s some options.

0 - [name]Zero[/name], [name]Nil[/name], Zilch, [name]Nada[/name], Cypher (archaic word for 0), Rei
1 - [name]Una[/name], [name]Unity[/name] (sort of works), Uno, Once, Solo, Ichi / [name]Ichiro[/name], [name]Ace[/name], First, Premier / Première, Primera, Eins
2 - Duo / Duae , [name]Deuce[/name], Twice, Secunda, Secondly, Duet, Deuxième, Zwei
3 - [name]Tertia[/name], [name]Tertius[/name], [name]Trey[/name], [name]Tressa[/name], Thrice, S”n (3 in Mandarin/Japanese), Trois, Tria, Trio, Tribus, Tercera, Drei
4 - [name]Quartz[/name], Tessera, Tetra, Tetris, Quartet, Quatrième
5 - [name]Quintus[/name], Quini, [name]Quinn[/name], Cinco, Penta, Nickel
6 - Seni, Hex, Sixième, Roku
7 - Settima, Hepta, Septième
8 - [name]Octavian[/name], [name]Octavius[/name], [name]Tavian[/name], [name]Octa[/name] / Okta, Hachi
9 - [name]Nova[/name], Nonet, Ennea, Nine, Kyu
10 - Decebal, Deca / Deka, [name]Deni[/name], Dime, [name]Dixi[/name]ème

I actually like the French ordinal numerals for fictional characters.

Others: [name]Eleven[/name], [name]Mila[/name] / [name]Milia[/name] , [name]Mil[/name], [name]Mille[/name], Millenarius, Millenarian, Centum, Decennoval, Centillion, Grand, Dozen, Myriad, Zillion, Numero

There’s some interesting ones from this list:

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it. I don’t know how many characters I’ll need to name, so I’m very appreciative for all these suggestions. [name]Feel[/name] free to get as creative as you want and I’ll weed out what I don’t like.

Well if it’s for a book, honestly any name is fine, now if you wanted to name your kid [name]Seven[/name], that would be a WHOLE other story.

I think Nine would be a cute name for a girl. Four would be alright for a boy.

Some numbers in other languages:
Japanese: Ichi, Roku, Juu, [name]Nana[/name], Hachi (actually used as a name),
Chinese: San, Qi, Ling,
[name]German[/name]: Sieben, Neun, Zehn

OOH You know what catloverd, you reminded me that I love [name]German[/name] numbers. My favorites are Zehn, Elf, and Zwolf (I’m using it!!)

I have [name]Seven[/name] on my list because it’s my favorite number. I also like Six a lot. both for girls.
