A recent post got me thinking… [name]Tate[/name] is an old family surname in my family. I wouldn’t use it as a first name, but thought [name]Anna[/name]-[name]Tate[/name] (which I have thought of in the past) was pretty cute (also love the meaning of [name]Tate[/name]).
Thoughts???
I think the bigger issue for me would be how many times it would get confused for [name]Anna[/name]-[name]Kate[/name], especially since [name]Tate[/name] is not usually used for girls.
I am a [name]Kathryn[/name] that goes mainly by [name]Kate[/name]. Among the more common nn’s for [name]Kathryn[/name], [name]Tate[/name] has surfaced a couple times throughout my 20 some years of life, and I love it. It’s a little bit tomboy when [name]Kate[/name] isn’t.
I don’t like the name [name]Tate[/name] because it sounds like a slang for a part of the male anatomy. I knew a guy with the name that was teased for it. If it is a family name, I think it would be best as a middle name.
What’s wrong with [name]Tate[/name]? Never knew it was slang for anything. Besides, it could be a cute nickname for [name]Tatum[/name], and most people would probably assume that’s why a girl’s name is [name]Tate[/name]. I’ve only met one boy [name]Tate[/name], and the rest were all girls named [name]Tatum[/name].
On another note, Tatumn makes more sense to me than [name]Tatum[/name]…
It sounds like “taint” which is a slang for a male body part where I’m from. Guys at my school would call the boy named [name]Tate[/name] “taint”.
It sounds a bit like “annotate” to me, but that’s not horrible.
