Our three year old is named [name_u]Orion[/name_u] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]. Last week we had our second child and DH decided the name we picked out was too feminine for the newbies strong features.
We are now considering [name_u]Oberon[/name_u] Esher for the new baby. I really like [name_u]Oberon[/name_u], but worry its too close to [name_u]Orion[/name_u]. Opinions please, thanks in advance!
Yes, if it is too matchy, we may be using Esher or [name_m]Iver[/name_m] with [name_u]Oberon[/name_u] as the middle name. Any other combo ideas? Really open to any ideas at this point, since I am starting from scratch again!
[name_u]LOVE[/name_u] both [name_u]Orion[/name_u] and [name_u]Oberon[/name_u]! I agree that [name_u]Oberon[/name_u]'s too close to [name_u]Orion[/name_u], but I think you could use [name_u]Oberon[/name_u] as a middle? I like the suggestion of [name_m]Frey[/name_m] [name_u]Oberon[/name_u], or even something like [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] [name_u]Oberon[/name_u], [name_u]Grey[/name_u] [name_u]Oberon[/name_u], [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Oberon[/name_u], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_u]Oberon[/name_u], etc.?
Yeah… they’re too close for my taste. They’re not ridiculously close or anything, and I think you could totally go for it and it would be fine (they’re both wonderful names!), but I personally wouldn’t choose them together. Sorry! Best of luck coming up with something!
[name_u]Oberon[/name_u] is cool. I’m honestly on the fence about whether or not it’s too close to [name_u]Orion[/name_u] to work. They do have a lot of sounds in common.
I think if you think it’s “the name”, then they’re not so ridiculously similar that they don’t work as brothers.
I know the spelling [name_u]Auberon[/name_u] also has a history of use. That might help to take the name every farther away from [name_u]Orion[/name_u].
Nono hit the mark. Try the spelling [name_u]Auberon[/name_u]. It’s a little less matchy with the “A” spelling. If you’re fine with them ending in “on”, then it’s the name for you. Have you considered [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] as a first name?
Thanks everyone! I appreciate the suggestions. I think we are going to move away from [name_u]Oberon[/name_u] as a first name, but will probably keep it for the middle. [name_u]Mischa[/name_u], we do like [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] quite a bit, but know another child with that name. We come from an artsy little college town where kids names are really unique and it’s a big offense to knowingly use the same name.
I love the name [name_u]Oberon[/name_u] (although it makes me think of A Midsummer [name_m]Night[/name_m]'s [name_u]Dream[/name_u] by [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]). It does sound very much like [name_u]Orion[/name_u], but I think the similarity is endearing, and anyone who hears them together will remember that they are brothers.
I would consider:
Jorik
[name_m]Othello[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucian[/name_m]
[name_m]Caesar[/name_m]
[name_m]Justus[/name_m]
[name_m]Octavius[/name_m]
[name_m]Gryffin[/name_m]
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m] (might not go as well with [name_u]Oberon[/name_u] as a MN)
[name_m]Ky[/name_m]
[name_m]Uriah[/name_m]
Keston
[name_m]Zeus[/name_m]
[name_m]Kayne[/name_m]
[name_m]Talen[/name_m]
[name_m]Calix[/name_m]
[name_m]Ajax[/name_m]
[name_m]Odysseus[/name_m] ([name_m]Odie[/name_m] as a nn)
[name_m]Perseus[/name_m] ([name_u]Percy[/name_u] as a nn)
[name_m]Apollo[/name_m]
Typhon
[name_m]Aries[/name_m]
Greggor
[name_u]Fenix[/name_u]/[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] (I don’t really like the way the “phoe” part looks)
Our current favorites are [name_m]Iver[/name_m] [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] C—y and [name_m]Oakes[/name_m] Ezekial C—y. Let me know what you think with [name_u]Orion[/name_u] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]. We have completely abandoned [name_u]Oberon[/name_u], it just doesn’t work no matter how much DH likes it!
