I say [name]PET[/name]-ruh!
Lol, I try pronouncing it like [name]PET[/name]-ruh, and it makes me sound like I am trying to talk with a different accent. Maybe it is an accent thing.
[name]Just[/name] tried saying it out loud, and I guess I say it pet-truh. My tongue automatically does a little skiddering double-t thing.
I say PEH truh.
I say [name]Pet[/name]-trah too!
I knew a [name]Petra[/name] in middle-school. We pronounced her name [name]Pet[/name]-trah, like you. Though [name]Petra[/name] isn’t my taste I think it is quite nice.
I’ve always said “PAY-tra”
I can’t even say it with a double T without a big pause in the middle. Definitely [name]Pet[/name]-ruh
Kind of in between…closer to [name]PET[/name]-rah
Something in between [name]PET[/name]-trah and [name]PET[/name]-truh. Like the tennis player, [name]Petra[/name] Kvitova (listen here): How To Pronounce Petra Kvitova - YouTube
I usually hear the differences, but I confess [name]PET[/name]-rah/[name]PET[/name]-trah/[name]PET[/name]-truh…I say them all the same. Hmm.
I like [name]Petra[/name], but prefer the Italian [name]Pietra[/name] (Pee-et-tra).
In English [name]Petra[/name] sounds harsh but on The Continent where they say it with a soft inflection and slowly it comes out beautifully as Pair traah. It is soft and slow and very pretty.
rollo
When I say [name]Petra[/name] it sounds a like I’m saying Peh-chra. Like how the tree sounds like chree when you say it aloud, or maybe that’s just my accent.
I say [name]PET[/name]-ruh. I once met someone who pronounced it PEET-ruh or PEE-truh (it’s been long enough that I don’t remember anymore which it was), which I did not like at all. However, dictionary.com suggests that this latter pronunciation is also the correct way to say the name of the city in [name]Jordan[/name]: Petra Definition & Meaning | Dictionary.com (I’ve never said it like that before, though. Maybe I’m just ignorant?)
