Obsessing over this name! :) Need some insight

As most of you probably already know, since I’ve posted a million times lol, I love vintage/classic names that are uncommon but not unheard of. I also like names that have various nickname options. Right now I’m in love with the name [name]Cecily[/name] nn Ceci [pronounced SESS-E]. What do you all think?

[name]Do[/name] you prefer [name]Cecilia[/name]/[name]Cecelia[/name]? What are your thoughts on the spelling variations of this name? I am drawn towards the nn [name]Celia[/name] so I am partial to the spelling [name]Cecelia[/name]. However, the traditional spelling appears to be [name]Cecilia[/name]. Is there a significant difference here? Does either spelling give you a different feel for the name? Any overall views on this name would be much appreciated.

I would also [name]LOVE[/name] to hear everyone’s personal list of favorites. [name]Feel[/name] free to include nicknames and middle names if you’d like.

Thanks

I prefer [name]Cecilia[/name] but [name]Cecily[/name] is just as pretty. I don’t care for [name]Celia[/name] at all, it reminds me of Celiac’s disease and [name]Cecelia[/name] looks like a misspelled version of [name]Cecilia[/name].

Ceci/Cecy is my favorite nickname for Cecilia. I know a woman from Mexico whose name is Cecilia and when she was younger, she went by Cecy (sess-ee).

If I saw the nickname Ceci, I’d say it CC. [name]IMO[/name], Sess-ee reminds me of incest, but I might be the only one who feels that way. I like Sis, Cici (CC) or [name]Sil[/name] much better.

[name]Cecilia[/name] would have to be my preferred spelling, but both are fine. Since both are fairly uncommon, [name]Cecelia[/name] wouldn’t be constantly misspelled as [name]Cecilia[/name].

Now that I look at it, I think you all are right. No reason to change the traditional spelling of a name just to suit a nickname. I think [name]Cecilia[/name] is beautiful, however I hate that it means blind which is why I included [name]Celia[/name] as it has a much nicer meaning. The thing is I don’t care so much for the sound of [name]Celia[/name] lol. It sounds a bit unfinished to me.

Out of [name]Cecily[/name], [name]Cecilia[/name], and [name]Celia[/name], [name]Cecily[/name] is my favourite. However, the “sess” sound makes me think of a cesspool, which is why I’m not positive on adding it to my list (as well as the not so great meaning). Also, if I saw the nn Ceci, I would definitely say CC. As for the [name]Cecilia[/name] vs. [name]Cecelia[/name] thing, I really don’t have a preference. I guess I would pick [name]Cecilia[/name] just because people would commonly spell it that way.

I definitely prefer [name]Cecilia[/name] to [name]Cecily[/name]. The nn Ceci is cute, but I do prefer [name]CeCe[/name] (at first glance, that’s how I thought Ceci was pronounced). I don’t like [name]Celia[/name]- it reminds me of a snake. And I know the meaning of [name]Cecilia[/name] isn’t great, but I love reading the story of St. [name]Cecilia[/name]. I’ll include the link below. I don’t know what religion you are, but it’s an interesting read no matter what.

Interestingly, she is also known as St. [name]Cecily[/name].

I love [name]Cecilia[/name] and [name]Celia[/name]!

I adore [name]Cecily[/name]! I prefer it to [name]Cecelia[/name], [name]Cecilia[/name], and [name]Celia[/name] because [name]Cecily[/name] is a bit spunkier and also just seems sturdier. I think the “y” ending helps the name immensely, because the ending of [name]Cecelia[/name] and [name]Cecilia[/name] seems a bit uncertain for some reason, I think because so many of the same letters keep repeating. In fact, that is why I prefer the [name]Cecilia[/name] spelling to the [name]Cecelia[/name] spelling because I don’t like that “ce” repeats in [name]Cecelia[/name]. I think the nickname [name]Celia[/name] works just as well for [name]Cecilia[/name] as it does for [name]Cecelia[/name], because if you remove “cil” from [name]Cecilia[/name], you still get [name]Celia[/name]. I prefer [name]Cecilia[/name] to just [name]Celia[/name] because [name]Celia[/name] can always be a nickname for [name]Cecilia[/name], but it doesn’t work the other way around.

As for a nickname, I think Ceci (pronounced SESS-E) would be really cute for [name]Cecily[/name]. I don’t think you have to worry about people pronouncing Ceci as C.C. because people rarely write out nicknames anyway. I also like the nickname [name]Lily[/name] for [name]Cecily[/name], but I have always wondered if that would be too much of a stretch.

I personally love [name]Celia[/name] best. I also really enjoy [name]Cecelia[/name].

I think i would like [name]Cecily[/name], if I hadn’t have known the most horrid girl in elementary school who tried to ruin my life on the bus everyday. Bad memories.

I don’t like the [name]Cecelia[/name] spelling–something about the ‘[name]Cece[/name]’ just rubs me the wrong way. But I love [name]Celia[/name]–and I think it could just as easily be a nickname for [name]Cecilia[/name]. I’m not at all a fan of [name]Cecily[/name], though. It sounds very stuck-up to me.
