My husband and I both seem to gravitate toward occupational names for boys that arn’t common. We’ve narrowed it down to two but I’m just so uncertain. We are considering [name]James[/name] as a middle name after my brother.
I’d love to hear your thoughts (keeping in mind that we live in Australia… If that matters).
I love the name [name]Archer[/name], it is one of our top two for if we have a boy, I I definetly vote for that. Our other is [name]Tucker[/name], which is also occupational, it means “fabric pleater”, just to toss that out. [name]Archer[/name] [name]James[/name] is great, and definetly my favorite of your list!
[name]Archer[/name] [name]James[/name] ([name]Archie[/name]): This flows nicely, but I don’t like [name]Archer[/name]'s association with archery.
[name]Thatcher[/name] [name]James[/name] ([name]Thatch[/name]): This flows nicely, too, but when I read [name]Thatcher[/name], my first thought was of [name]Margaret[/name]. I also worry about little [name]Thatch[/name] being teased because his nickname rhymes with a term from the world of sexual slang.
Can you see any major problems with these? (See above…)
Other names that have been on our list as some point are:
[name]Griffin[/name]- Great name, and I really like [name]Griffin[/name] [name]James[/name]
Rockeby- If you don’t mind the nickname “[name]Rocky[/name].” That said, all I see is, “[name]Rock[/name]-a-bye,” as in “[name]Rock[/name]-a-bye, [name]Baby[/name].”
[name]Ryder[/name]- Too trendy for me
[name]Felix[/name]- A great choice!
[name]Fletcher[/name]- I know someone by this name (actually, it’s his last name, but he’s known as “[name]Fletch[/name]”), and he gets teased due to the term “felch.” He really, really hates being called “Felcher.” (You might want to Google “felch.”)
[name]Digby[/name]- Not a fan
[name]Hendrix[/name]- Associated too closely with [name]Jimi[/name] for me
[name]Stirling[/name]-Not for me (too pretentious), but all that matters is how you feel about it (and any name you ultimately choose)!
[name]Stirling[/name], [name]Faulkner[/name] And [name]Dexter[/name] are my favorite occupational names ([name]Faulkner[/name] means falconer). [name]Thatcher[/name] [name]James[/name] sounds handsome, but [name]Thatch[/name] is not a nice sound for me. And does rhyme with an unfortunate slang word. I’d steer clear of [name]Thatcher[/name]. It also reminds me of [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Thatcher[/name] (who never did anything to this Yank, but I understanfd the loathing otherwise). [name]Archer[/name] [name]James[/name] is very handsome, though.
If I had to choose from your list, [name]Felix[/name] Rockeby woul;d be it. Different, unsual and totally cool sounding. But that’s just me.
[name]Archer[/name] is my fave atm, and i like [name]Ryder[/name] too. i dont think its a prob esp with a traditional middle name. [name]Archer[/name] [name]James[/name] sounds very handsome:)
I think both [name_m]Archer[/name_m] and [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] are lovely, though with [name_u]James[/name_u] as a middle name I prefer [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m], it just sounds better to me than [name_m]Archer[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u].
I also think [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] is a really beautiful name too
