Ocean?

Can I get your thoughts on Ocean as a boy’s name? Do you recommend it or against it?

I like it! I’ve only ever heard it irl on a girl, BUT imho nature names are fair game when it comes to gender. I really like boys names that start with an O in general.

I love [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]! I’ve also only seen it on a girl, with Oshie as a nickname

I agree that nature names are fair game and very unisex. I think [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] on a little boy would be so stunning.

This one I probably put as a guilty pleasure. On Nameberry it seems to fit in and make perfect sense but irl I see it harder to wear.

Like it better for a girl

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] - bold and powerful

I agree with this poster. I think it sounds really nice in theory but I’m not sure of its usability in real life. It definitely gives strong hippie vibes. I think similar names vibes would be Rainbow, Pepper, Tiger, Peace, Echo, etc. in that they’re definitely up some people’s alleys and not unusable, but still pretty way-out-there and could be difficult to wear at the moment.

I love Ocean!

I think Ocean is a fabulous nature name that feels bold, energetic and full of colour. Lovely name I think I’d gravitate to using Ocean as a middle name maybe Jasper Ocean but still fab name

I really like it! I prefer it as a middle, but I’d be happy to meet a little boy named [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] :ocean:

I love [name_u]Ocean[/name_u], especially on a boy. I think it could follow the success of [name_u]River[/name_u] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], especially as it has the N ending which is so common for names, especially masculine names.

I love the name [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]! It’s definitely one of my favorites. To me it sounds strong and whimsical, and nature names are very gender fluid in my opinion. I think it could be a really fun, bold choice that has a lot of personality and energy for a first or middle name !

I love that name! Great for a boy

I think it’s perfectly usable! Very nature-y but I like it and names like River, Wolf, Sky, etc are getting popular/are popular so it blends well with that

Ocean on a boy actually ranked in the top 100 last year (#64) in Puerto Rico so it’s getting at least decent usage as a boys name somewhere

I definitely recommend it! [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] is so sweet and summery, and adventurous. I actually prefer it for a boy! I know a little boy named [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] and he wears it so well.

I know of a boy, probably in his teens now, named Eth@n [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]. We live on the coast, and there are lots of “Berry-esque” and nature names around here, so I would see it as usable where I am.
(Side note: I love the name [name_m]Oisin[/name_m], but likely no one I know would be able to pronounce it. Honestly I struggle a little with it myself. I could see [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] as a soundalike alternative people would know how to say.)

definitely recommend, it’s perfectly usable for me ! one of the ‘hippie’ nature names that is still familiar enough to blend in imo

there’s a similar name oisín, and a poet - ocean vuong - that helped me adore it for a boy !

If [name_u]River[/name_u] and [name_u]Brooks[/name_u] / [name_u]Brook[/name_u] are usable, then I think [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] is

If I saw [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] with no context, I’d subconsciously think girl, but I personally love it on all genders :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I once knew a guy named [name_u]Glacier[/name_u] and thought it was different, a tad bit odd, but it really grew on me. [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] and [name_u]Glacier[/name_u] are really similar (imo), so that’s why I mention it.
