[name]Hi[/name] all! My husband and I have been talking about trying for a third, and likely last, child. Our children are [name]Emerson[/name] (boy) and Eisley (girl.) Keeping an “E” trend was never our intention, more of a coincidence. For quite awhile, we’ve been set on [name]Silas[/name] for a second boy. Not firm on a girl’s name. In reflection, I’m starting to wonder, will it be strange to make the third child the odd man out in not giving them an “E” name? Or am I reading into it too much? We do have “E” names we like, (ex: [name]Ezra[/name] - boy, [name]Everly[/name] - girl) but are not necessarily in love with like we are with [name]Silas[/name]. What do you guys think?
If its your last child you should go with an E name. If you were to have one more I’d say don’t worry about it. But being your last it probably would make him/her feel like the odd man out if their name didn’t start with an E. Maybe [name]Silas[/name] could be a middle name? [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Silas[/name]?
I dont think it matters at all. I am one of three and two of us are E’s and one is an L. No one ever minded. It never even came up!
[name]How[/name] do you say Eisley? [name]Just[/name] wondering if it has the same long ‘i’ sound as [name]Silas[/name], which would be more problematic to me. [name]Love[/name] [name]Silas[/name] by the way!
I would go with the name you love most. Then you should make sure each child knows that you picked their name because it was the name you loved most when they were born.
Three or more makes a patttern - I don’t think two does. Also I think [name]Everly[/name] is too close Eisley for sisters.
Thanks guys. Your input really helped. I think it’s right to say that the name matters more than the pattern, at least in our instance.
- I really do like [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Silas[/name]! We have our middle’s picked already, however.
- Eisley is pronounced Eyes-lee, which I suppose is a tad problematic with [name]Silas[/name].
- [name]Everly[/name] is quite close to Eisley, you’re right! I haven’t found another girl’s E name flows and we like, so this is probably a good reason to stray from the E’s.
- We also like [name]Hugo[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name], but I think [name]Silas[/name] flows best.
[name]Ezra[/name] and [name]Hugo[/name] are the only names that are different enough from [name]Emerson[/name] and Eisley. If you can’t find any “E” names you love, then choose another letter. I love [name]Sebastian[/name] but [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Emerson[/name] are similar in sound as well. From your choices, it’s [name]Ezra[/name] and [name]Hugo[/name].
I don’t think you should feel obligated to stick to the Es. My family is 3 Ks, an L, D, and S. (Of course, that’s six of us…and the Ks are spread out.) The more Es you have is just going to add to the confusion! Plus, if you [name]DO[/name] change your mind eventually decide to have more, after 3 you’re more stuck with the Es.
Eisley and [name]Emerson[/name] are nice together, and have a certain feel…I don’t have any suggestions, but I say finding something that fits the surnamey/modern/unisex style of those two is more important than finding an E. [name]IMO[/name], [name]Ezra[/name] and [name]Silas[/name] are a bit different style…and there’s that long I + s issue with [name]Silas[/name]/Eisley.

There are three little boys across the street from me, Brend@n, [name]Bri[/name]@n and [name]Patrick[/name] - [name]Patrick[/name] once mentioned he wanted a “B” name like his brothers. His mom told him that his name starting with a different letter made him extra-special! I thought that was wonderful of her, especially since he is actually the middle child and very close in age to the youngest.
