Odd name out

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! First, not expecting, just needing an advice. Already posted on “Writers’ Corner” but there is so quiet.

I am writing this story for a few weeks and I find myself stuck because I can not resolve an impasse. My story is about four friends’ relationship facing the difficulties of life. And the names of friends are…
[name_f]Antigone[/name_f] “[name_f]Tina[/name_f]”, [name_f]Gaia[/name_f], Lysandra “[name_m]Zan[/name_m]” and… [name_f]Danielle[/name_f].
It seems to me that [name_f]Danielle[/name_f] does not “mix” with the name of the other girls, but it’s my best friend’s name and I want to put it.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think that’s weird?
Perhaps an unconventional nickname for [name_u]Dani[/name_u] could help?

It does sound a little odd next to [name_f]Antigone[/name_f], [name_f]Gaia[/name_f] and Lysandra…
I love the name [name_f]Daniella[/name_f], and my favourite nickname and what I believe to be the most unique nickname for [name_f]Daniella[/name_f] is [name_f]Della[/name_f]. However, [name_f]Danielle[/name_f] lacks the ‘a’ ending, so that leaves [name_f]Della[/name_f] out of the question. There are actually quite a lot of Danielles where I live, so I know quite a few alternatives:

[name_f]Nia[/name_f] - This comes from the middle of [name_f]Danielle[/name_f], and I think it works with the rest of the girls’ names because it’s simple, uncommon and not a name, let alone a nickname you would find easily.

[name_f]Elle[/name_f] - Fits in with [name_f]Gaia[/name_f] and [name_m]Zan[/name_m] I feel because I feel personally that both of those names are elegant, prim type names, just as I think [name_f]Elle[/name_f] represents a noble, elegant girl.

[name_f]Nell[/name_f] - A name you almost never hear, but I think is a little dated, but cute, girly and just plain adorable. Because [name_f]Gaia[/name_f], and [name_f]Tina[/name_f] sound a bit dated to me, I think [name_f]Nell[/name_f] fits right in. [name_m]Just[/name_m] to clear it up, because I think it’s dated doesn’t mean it’s a bad name!

[name_u]Dana[/name_u] - Pronuonced [name_m]Dan[/name_m]-ah, not [name_u]Dane[/name_u]-ah. I think if you like [name_u]Dani[/name_u], this name is very uncommon, fits in with the others and is more feminine than [name_u]Dani[/name_u].

[name_u]Dale[/name_u] - I’m not as big a fan of this one as I am [name_f]Nia[/name_f], but I think it could work.

Thank you so much for your suggestions! I really liked [name_f]Nia[/name_f] the best and I think would suit very well. Plus, it’s short. [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and [name_f]Elle[/name_f] are also very sweet. Thanks again! <3

No problem! Nia is my favourite as well. We have 6 Danielles at my school, all called their own different nicknames; Nia, Nell, Elle, Dana, Dale and just plain Danielle. As you can see, I know a lot of different ways to shorten that particular name. Good luck on your book!

I think it’s fine for a story. It’s so common for groups of friends to have names which differ in popularity/conventionality, I think it’s realistic and not weird at all.
