Odd new name crush...

So I’ve recently started loving the name [name]Javier[/name]. I watched a TV show a few days ago and there was a character named [name]Javier[/name] “[name]Javi[/name]” and I just fell in love with it. I’m not sure if I would actually use it because it’s so totally different from my usual style… also we’re not in any way Hispanic. What do you think of the name? Would it be weird for a White kid to be named [name]Javier[/name]?

I do think it would be a tad eccentric. And I know they would get a lot of rude and annoying questions like “why did your parents name you [name]Javier[/name]?”. I can see the appeal though and I really like [name]Javi[/name] as a nn. I have the same problem with [name]Diego[/name], [name]Lorenco[/name] and [name]Magdalena[/name].

I love the name [name]Javier[/name] too! It just sounds sensual and exotic to me. [name]Javi[/name] sounds like it could almost pass as a Jewish name (say it with a frog in your throat, more like Chavi or just [name]Avi[/name]). I’m never really sure when it’s appropriate or not to use a name from another culture. Unless we adopt internationally, it will probably just stay on my “[name]Love[/name] but not considering” list along with gems like [name]Magdalena[/name] and [name]Beatriz[/name].

Wait… Was it Castle?

I love the NN [name]Javi[/name] but I’m not fond of [name]Javier[/name]. It’s a very Hispanic name, and I’m not sure how I feel about it on a non-Hispanic child.

Oh, yes! I love [name]Javier[/name]! I personally don’t care what color skin a person has, any name works as long as there’s love behind it. [name]Javier[/name] nn [name]Javi[/name] is wonderful. I grew up with one, so I don’t feel I can use it, but it’s such a wonderful name and I’d use it in a heartbeat.

Besides, you’re a rule breaker when it comes to names (girls with boys names) so I say, keep breaking those rules and go with the names you love rather than the names society dictates as acceptable for our skin color/ country of origin/ gender/ social class/ spiritual beliefs.

Haha, that would’ve been hilarious

I like [name]Javier[/name]. For me it is very much because of mr Bardem, but it’s a very cool, cute and sexy name. [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Javier[/name]. I kinda like it!

I like [name]Javier[/name]… not very fond of the nn [name]Javi[/name]… but honestly, I have a hard time picturing the name on a non-Hispanic child.

I feel like I mention this all the time, but I know a blonde haired blue eyed guy named [name]Juan[/name], and he’s never really had a problem with his name. Yes he is asked frequently why his parents named him [name]Juan[/name], but really people could ask the same questions with names like [name]Meadow[/name] and [name]Agnes[/name]. So if you really love the name I think you could use it.

I think I personally like the nn [name]Javi[/name] more than I like the actual name [name]Javier[/name]… but I do have a friend with this name and he is a really sweet and caring guy so it has a very positive image for me. =]

Were you watching Castle?!?

I love [name]Javier[/name] with the nickname [name]Javi[/name].

Aww, is this Castle we’re talking about? I’ve always liked [name]Xavier[/name] much more than [name]Javier[/name] (still do), but [name]Javier[/name] is quite international and handsome, and [name]Javi[/name] Esposito has definitely made the name more appealing to me! I’m not sure how well [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Javier[/name] work together, though–maybe you could use it as a MN, if you really love it? I adore [name]Giovanna[/name] but probably wouldn’t use it up front because I’m not even a little Italian, haha.

First of all, yes it was Castle.

I do speak Spanish, and my husband is Navajo so he is mistaken for a Latino quite frequently. So, I don’t know if that makes it better or worse? I like the idea of integrating cultures and languages, but I’m not so sure everyone would get it if you know what I mean.

Funny related story… [name]Rowan[/name] has been talking up a storm lately and forming new words and sounds all the time and all day today she was repeating something that sounded exactly like “[name]Javi[/name]” but with more of a separated syllable, almost like HA-VEE. Is it a sign?! haha

I live in [name]North[/name] [name]Carolina[/name]. We have a pretty decent sized Hispanic population, but it’s nowhere near [name]Texas[/name] or [name]Arizona[/name] I’m sure. We have a few Mexican and Guatemalan friends and acquaintances, and I’m sure they would love it if we had a son named [name]Javier[/name]. I remember expressing my love of the name [name]Ofelia[/name] to my Mexican friend and she laughed at me. I asked her what was wrong with it, and she said something like “It’s an old lady’s name!”
