Officially Expecting #3!

I know I’ve been obnoxious on here with some out there names. My husband has been working 80-hour weeks, so we don’t always get to talk frequently but try to cover a lot of ground when we do, so I sometimes jump the gun on throwing my thoughts out there for input.

BUT! We are officially expecting a baby this August- our third! We are tentatively team green this time around, but so far we’ve only had a chance to talk boy names.

Big brothers are W@rr€n P@+rick and C|yd€ The€0dore.

After my husband vetoed a few hundred names that I loved :sob:, we were left with a “don’t hate it” list of about 23 names. Here are the top 8 that I could see potentially fitting in our family, along with 3 wildcards I haven’t pitched to him yet but am curious about.

Don’t feel obligated to read the novel I’ve written with each name, but please do be brutally honest if some of these just need to be vetoed for good, or if you have any suggested based on the list that maybe my husband vetoed yet. Thank you for any feedback!

——————————————————————-

Samson - this one has really grown on me and I think is my top pick at the moment. It has a warmth to it that some of the other options lack for me. I can picture a little Samson James, Sammy Jammy fitting into our family. Somewhat concerned about Sam popularity, but I do like the nickname Sammy.

Fisher / Fischer - haven’t ever cared much for this before tonight, and my husband was actually pretty fond of it and I think I really like it? Our last name is $t0rer and I don’t know if that works. In addition to the repeating -er ending, it kind of makes it sound like the poor kid is a fish market? Something that swayed me into liking it is the obscure Biblical connection, “follow me and I will make you fishers of men.”

Also not sure if all of the -er occupational names are going to end up sounding trendy or dated? Also unsure of preferred spelling for it as a name?

Abbott - only concerns are that there was previously a politician in our state with the last name Abbott, and Greg Abbott is the governor of Texas, which is a neighboring state to us. Also is unranked, but sounds like it blends in with a lot of other names that are popular for some reason?

Foster - a marmite name, most people dislike it due to foster care association. I like it on paper, but for feels a little off when I picture calling it out loud. Yet we both keep coming back to it. :woman_shrugging:

Dexter - definitely lacks the warmth Samson has, and a lot of people veto it due to the show association. I still like it, though.

Eamon - like it. Feels warm, sturdy yet sweet, underused but simple. Think we both prefer Samson over it.

Alden - sweet meaning. Feels cold to me? :joy:Like, less warmth than the Dexter that people associate with a killer? Worried it blends it with many other names despite being uncommon, and worried it will get mistaken as Aiden on paper at a glance. And we strongly dislike Aiden. Grocery store Aldi is popular near us, so would be unfortunate if people tried to shorten Alden to Aldi. Kind of an anagram for my husband’s grandfather, Dale.

Arbor - we both question the practicality of it, especially paired with our last name. But we also both keep coming back to it.

——————————————————————-

Some wildcards I’m curious about:

Harvest - Harvey was on our long list, but I personally prefer the sound and *feeling* of Harvest. Gives me warm, cozy autumnal vibes. I remember I also thought there was a really obscure biblical connection with this one that I’m forgetting now. Harvey could still be a nickname if needed. Harvest $t0rer might make the poor kid sound like a barn, though. Our last name makes it sound like you’re talking about where to store your crops you’ve harvested, doesn’t it?:sob:

I still really like it, but I guess just need someone to tell me to veto it so I can give it up.

Sower - I actually heard this from joyfulhems on Instagram a while back. She has a son named Sower and she explained the Biblical connection she had with it as a name and I loved it. I personally love alliteration, so I dig the sound of Sower $t0rer even though I know it’s a bit much. Wondering how impractical the general population finds it? And would probably constantly be correcting, “It’s Sower with an o, not Sewer.”

Potter - the name Porter has really grown on me, but a girl I went to nursing school with just used it so I feel like it’s too close for us to consider it now. I came across Potter as a first name, but I’m assuming the Harry Potter association would be way too strong for that to fly? Also assuming our last name would also just not jive with it.

Some potential combos:

(James, Alexander, Smith, Dale, and Ray are family names. )

Samson James

[name_f][/name_f]

Out of all the Names you have written down I would chose

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]James[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], even though they are two family Names or

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Ray[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m].

[name_f][/name_f]

If I had to choose it would be one of them.

I really like [name_m]Samson[/name_m]! ‘Sammy Jammy’ got me, how cute. And it works really nicely with W@arren and Clyd3 imho. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] handsome name.

[name_f][/name_f]

To be very honest I would cut all the -er ending names from this list given your surname, and [name_f]Arbor[/name_f] too. That would leave you with [name_m]Samson[/name_m], [name_m]Abbott[/name_m], [name_m]Eamon[/name_m], [name_m]Alden[/name_m], [name_m]Harvest[/name_m]. I’d then cross off [name_m]Harvest[/name_m] for the surname reason too (although I think it’s a very cool name!). [name_m]You[/name_m] don’t seem sold on any of those remaining four except [name_m]Samson[/name_m].

[name_f][/name_f]

As someone who also has a tricky surname that makes first names/nicknames sound off, good luck!

Congrats on #3[name_f][/name_f]!

[name_f][/name_f]

I really like [name_m]Samson[/name_m] with your boys’ names [name_f][/name_f]- it feels very warm (as you mentioned) and familiar, but not overused. I get what you mean about the popularity of [name_m]Sam[/name_m], but [name_m]Samson[/name_m] does feel more unusual than “just” [name_m]Sam[/name_m] and since it’s your favourite at the moment, I wouldn’t fret too much over a popular nickname. There’s also the option of [name_m]Sonny[/name_m] if the popularity of [name_m]Sam[/name_m] should ever become a problem (which I don’t think it will be). Plus, “Sammy Jammy” is just insanely adorable.

[name_f][/name_f]

I like [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] (I prefer this spelling), but I agree your surname is a little unfortunate in combination. It’s the same with [name_m]Potter[/name_m], [name_f]Arbor[/name_f], Sower and [name_m]Harvest[/name_m]. [name_m]Harvest[/name_m] I actually really like, but it doesn’t match as well with your boys’ names and as you mentioned, [name_m]Harvest[/name_m] $t0rer is a bit much.
[name_f][/name_f]I feel similarly about Sower (I think of sowing seeds, and it is quite similar to Sewer unfortunately). But if you like alliteration, that’s another point for [name_m]Samson[/name_m]!
[name_f][/name_f]I’d probably drop [name_m]Foster[/name_m] and [name_m]Alden[/name_m] because you mentioned them feeling off/cold.

[name_f][/name_f]

To me it feels like [name_m]Samson[/name_m] is your way to go, and [name_m]Samson[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m] is great! Good luck!

Congratulations on your third little one!

[name_f][/name_f]

We had a similar situation with our list – it was mostly names we both tolerated or didn’t mind. But some of them grew on us!

[name_f][/name_f]

These are my top picks from your short list:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Fisher[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] – [name_m]The[/name_m] double surname ‘er’ ending isn’t ideal but I’m still excited by this choice so I don’t really mind. [name_m]The[/name_m] fish market comparison is a little goofy, but I feel like the more I say it, the less wordy it sounds. I wouldn’t discount it yet – imagine a little boy called [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] and it instantly feels more name like and doable. If you really love a name, you can overlook things like this and husband loving the name is big plus. Especially enjoy the bright sound with brothers W & C. [name_m]The[/name_m] Biblical connection is clever. [name_f]My[/name_f] main thought is about nicknames if you’re nickname people. [name_m]Fish[/name_m] or even [name_m]Finn[/name_m] could work? Perhaps with a particular middle name you might get a few more options. [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m] is probably my favourite combination, simple and classic. [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] is intriguing though. Would one family name be more meaningful than the other? Would use the [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] spelling since it’s straight-forward. [name_f]My[/name_f] first choice for you.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Samson[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] – I’m a big fan [name_m]Samson[/name_m] and [name_m]Sam[/name_m] was on my list when we were expecting our son (but sadly vetoed). I do enjoy it with your boys but not as much as [name_m]Fisher[/name_m]. [name_m]James[/name_m] in the middle feels really balanced with your boys’ traditional middles names. There’s also [name_m]Sonny[/name_m] as a possible nickname, if [name_m]Sammy[/name_m] [name_m]Jammy[/name_m] doesn’t age with him. I notice it’s a very sibilant with your surname, but it’s fine. This is probably in equal second place for me.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Dexter[/name_m][name_f][/name_f] – I like the energy of [name_m]Dexter[/name_m] with your boys whenever you mention it in your posts. I did watch the show way back but it’s not front of mind at all. I still tend to think of the slightly nerdy vibes from Dexter’s Laboratory. Most names have multiple associations and I don’t think these would be overwhelming, especially when the name is attached to a real human being and not just a concept. I actually feel like it’s a little more clumsy on the tongue than [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] is with your surname. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_m]Dex[/name_m]? It might be shortened occasionally. If not, do you like an alternative nicknames? [name_m]Tex[/name_m] could work. Equal second place with [name_m]Samson[/name_m].

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] back-up options would be [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] and [name_m]Alden[/name_m]. I think both are handsome choices but neither excite me as much as the above three and you also don’t sound as keen. [name_m]Alden[/name_m] could be shortened to [name_m]Denny[/name_m] which grew on me when I read [name_m]The[/name_m] [name_m]Art[/name_m] of Racing in the [name_f]Rain[/name_f]. [name_m]Len[/name_m] or [name_m]Lenny[/name_m] could work at a stretch. As for [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] you could have [name_m]Ames[/name_m] or [name_m]Monty[/name_m].

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]The[/name_m] rest of the list don’t feel like strong options – too wordy or clumsy with your surname. [name_m]Abbott[/name_m] does work but I don’t like it as a first name (we also have a former primer minister called [name_m]Tony[/name_m] [name_m]Abbott[/name_m] in [name_m]Australia[/name_m] so it’s hard to get behind). [name_m]You[/name_m] keep coming back to [name_m]Foster[/name_m] and [name_f]Arbor[/name_f] so I would throw them into the ring as middle name options. Also, another reason why [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] works better than say, [name_m]Potter[/name_m] or Sower, is because it’s getting more use as a first name so it feels more familiar and name-like, but [name_m]Potter[/name_m] and Sower are unfamiliar.

Congrats on your pregnancy!

I would go Samson or Eamon - Eamon visually and thematically goes with your two boys, but I like the sunshine & balance that Samson brings to the group, and it gives Sam, Sammy and Sonny as nicknames. Samson is frontrunner for me!

As other have said, I would cross off the -er names. I don’t like the idea of Fisher or Potter - as a seafood /pottery storage facility/ warehouses, and I don’t like the idea of Fishy or Potty (crazy/demented) as nickname associations. I think Arbor, Foster, Dexter, and Sower don’t quite work when saying them with your last name.

Instead of Harvest, which I think is a little too far from genre, how about Harvey - I think Harvey would sound fab with your other two and on his own.

I don’t mind Abbott or Alden but think you could find even stronger options.

If it helps:

Harvey
Otto
Ellery
Arthur
Gilbert
Roscoe
Hollis
Tobias / Tobin
Solomon
Ronan
Dean
Atticus
Simon/ Simeon
Emrys

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites are [name_m]Samson[/name_m] and [name_m]Dexter[/name_m], I just love them! I also really like [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] and [name_m]Harvest[/name_m], but wouldn’t do this with your last name.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]So[/name_f] my third choice would probably be [name_m]Eamon[/name_m].

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Samson[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m] or [name_m]Samson[/name_m] [name_m]Ames[/name_m] or [name_m]Dexter[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m] or [name_m]Dexter[/name_m] [name_m]Ames[/name_m] are gorgeous!

I definitely think [name_m]Abbott[/name_m] stands out as the choice here but maybe with a different middle. A few ideas:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Abbott[/name_m] [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] (as long as your surname doesn’t start with S lol)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Abbott[/name_m] [name_m]Tristan[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Abbott[/name_m] [name_m]Elian[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Abbott[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Abbott[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Abbott[/name_m] [name_m]Reuben[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Abbott[/name_m] [name_m]Brennan[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

Hopefully this helps!

Of your names, I love:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Samson[/name_m] → handsome, gentle, sunny and lovely!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Fisher[/name_m] → cool but solid; it’s got a hint of old-fashioned charm?

[name_f][/name_f]

I also like [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] (warm and cool), but like you, I prefer [name_m]Samson[/name_m].
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Dexter[/name_m] does have cool charm, but I like your others better.
[name_f][/name_f]I can see what you mean about [name_m]Alden[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_f][/name_f] and it feels like it has more against it than for it, for you?

[name_f][/name_f]

I quite like the clunky-cute vibes of [name_m]Foster[/name_m] though!

[name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]

On your wildcards [name_f][/name_f]- I don’t love [name_m]Harvest[/name_m] with your surname, I’m afraid; Sower feels a bit too ‘sowing his seed’ vibes’; [name_m]Potter[/name_m] is too [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- really not a vibe for me.

[name_f][/name_f]

(sorry!)

[name_f][/name_f]

I like the grounded feel of [name_m]Samson[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m] and [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m]! [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] is cool too and [name_m]Foster[/name_m] [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m] is handsome!

[name_f][/name_f]

If I could mix and match:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Samson[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], [name_m]Samson[/name_m] [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m], [name_m]Samson[/name_m] [name_m]Elliott[/name_m] and [name_m]Samson[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]

[name_m]Samson[/name_m] is above all my favorite for y’all! It’s very sweet and cuddly, has nicknames and biblical ties, and is alliterative with your surname without being descriptive. These all sound like qualities you care about in a potential name!

[name_f][/name_f]

I think with W@rren and C|yde, a third brother should have a name with a bit of old man character and [name_m]Samson[/name_m] is one of the names on your list that comes closest. I also think you should reconsider [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Samson[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m] would probably be my favorite of the family name combos, but [name_m]Samson[/name_m] [name_m]Ray[/name_m], [name_m]Samson[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], and [name_m]Samson[/name_m] [name_m]Dale[/name_m] are sweet too!

[name_f]So[/name_f] I’m whole heartedly in love with [name_m]Samson[/name_m] he’s a firm favourite of mine such a handsome name that feels summery, charming and boyish. Absolutely love the idea of [name_m]Sammy[/name_m] [name_m]Jammy[/name_m] so adorable but if are concerned about the popularity of ‘Sam’ I think [name_m]Sonny[/name_m] is an absolutely charming nickname which feels very fashionable.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]You[/name_m] do have a really lovely list full of fun choices but I do think [name_m]Samson[/name_m] just sounds brilliant with your surname loving the alliteration! I also think [name_m]Samson[/name_m] is the most natural fit with your boys which are very classic and refined choices whereas the rest of your list feels stylistically different. [name_m]Samson[/name_m] just feels very cohesive with W@rr3n + Clyd3.

[name_f][/name_f]

Wishing you all the best

Congratulations! I love your older boys names, so I’m sure if this baby is a boy, he’ll have a great name!

[name_f][/name_f]

I have to agree with a lot of the responses [name_f][/name_f]- any word names and names ending in -er/-or are out for me. [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] $t0rer or [name_f]Arbor[/name_f] $t0rer is just not something I can imagine on an actual person. Maybe keep those names for the potential middle names list? Ex. [name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_m]Harvest[/name_m] or [name_m]Alden[/name_m] [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] would be cute!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Samson[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- I really like for you! I think [name_m]Sam[/name_m] is a timeless name, so I wouldn’t worry about Sam’s popularity. It’s not like there would be 3 in his class, he’d maybe meet a few over his life. And they probably wouldn’t be [name_m]Samson[/name_m]. [name_m]Samson[/name_m] with your last name is a lot of S’s though, and his initial would be SS which I don’t love.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Fisher[/name_m] / [name_m]Fischer[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- cute, but not with your last name.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Abbott[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- I like! [name_m]The[/name_m] governor will change over the years, and your baby won’t know the association. There is the medical device company [name_m]Abbott[/name_m] as well. Have you consider [name_m]Emmett[/name_m]? I like [name_m]Abbott[/name_m], but a bit too much of a religious icon for me.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Foster[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- I don’t like with your last name.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Dexter[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- I don’t mind the show affiliation, but it feels very cold to me. [name_m]Not[/name_m] a combination of sounds that I think goes with W@rr3n or C!yd3. [name_f]So[/name_f] harsh sounding.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Eamon[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- I like this! Warm, sturdy, underused.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Alden[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- Doesn’t feel cold at all to me! Feels very warm and friendly. I think this might be my favourity on the list. I wouldn’t worry about the risk of [name_m]Aiden[/name_m], it’s a distinct name, so yes, he might have to correct people once, but once they know his name, they won’t confuse it again. Plus people rarely read your name before hearing it aloud I think.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Arbor[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- I’m sorry, I don’t like with your last name.

[name_f][/name_f]

Harverst & Sower [name_f][/name_f]- [name_m]Not[/name_m] with your last name I don’t think. I think Sower is extremely impractical. [name_m]Potter[/name_m], I don’t love with your last name.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites for you are, without a doubt, [name_m]Samson[/name_m] & [name_m]Alden[/name_m].

[name_f][/name_f]

A few other ideas:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Emmett[/name_m]

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I unanimously agree that [name_m]Samson[/name_m] [name_m]James[/name_m] is our #1[name_f][/name_f]! [name_m]Like[/name_m], to the point that I feel content not glancing at any boys names the rest of this pregnancy. Which is saying a lot for me. :joy:[name_f][/name_f] I fully expected us to struggle picking a boy name since we’ve already struggled to pick our first two, but it just feels like it fits in our real life and family perfectly. I will say I’ve pitched it to my husband numerous times over the last few months and he’s always been “meh” about it, then today acted like it was the first time I had mentioned it as a full combo () and was way more enthusiastic about it.
