Oh boy! It's time to get serious about those names!

We had our gender sonogram today, and it confirmed what I assumed–IT’S A BOY! (background: Husband has not had a girl in 4 generations on his dad’s side, so I was expecting it long before I got pregnant! )

Here’s our boys list as it stands TODAY. This is definitely a rough draft and I’m definitely open to suggestions for additional name ideas. I know Namberry isn’t general fans of the “son” names, but I am partial to a few. And feel free to critique away.

Last name rhymes with “Crisco”

FIRST NAMES
[name]Sebastian[/name] – husband REALLY likes this name (very European to him even though it’s popular here as well)…however, he does have a little “nickname hangup” with this name
[name]Harrison[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] – I like the nicknames [name]Teddy[/name] and [name]Theo[/name] in principle, but not sure about the name in the long run
[name]Anderson[/name]
[name]Pierce[/name]
[name]Piers[/name] – one hangup with the name is it is SO uncommon and my friend’s fiance has this name.

MIDDLE NAMES
Husband is “Yugoslavian” and we are open to most Slavic names that would be popular in Bosnia, Croatia, and Serbia…he did grow up in Bosnia (and later Croatia) and anything with negative connotations to the culture is definitely off-limits. Here are the names that have peaked his interst. For as much as he wants a name true to his origin he is awfully picky about them…Ha! Difficult men.

I just don’t need to hear these are horrible names since for the most part the Slavic names my husband would like are not necessarily likable names in the US.

Zlatan
Kenen
Faris
Alen

Wow. That is quite a track record. Congratulations!

As for as -son names go, you have picked the cream of the crop. [name]Harrison[/name] and [name]Anderson[/name] are fantastic. I think I prefer [name]Anderson[/name] by a slight edge. It’s so distinguished and [name]Anders[/name] is a great name too. [name]Harrison[/name] is fantastic though. [name]Harry[/name] is such a jaunty nickname and well-liked but underused. I really am not a fan of the [name]Pierce[/name]/[name]Piers[/name] names, but other than that I love all your names. [name]Theodore[/name] and [name]Sebastian[/name]? Fantastic. I almost don’t want to suggest anything because these names are so great. Alen is my favorite middle name.

[name]Sebastian[/name] Alen
[name]Theodore[/name] Alen
[name]Harrison[/name] Alen
[name]Anderson[/name] Alen

[name]Anderson[/name] really sounds cool with Alen, but you do have the double A, which is fine with me, but some don’t prefer it.

[name]Sebastian[/name] Faris or [name]Pierce[/name] Zlatan!

Thanks for your thoughts! Yes, those are the two son names that I have a soft spot for for whatever reason. The rest I can take or leave.

I actually really like [name]Anders[/name] as well, but my husband is kind of on the fence about it. I actually got him to come around to a few of the girls names he was actually against in the beginning, so who knows where the boys list will take us  What do people think of [name]Anderson[/name] nn [name]Anders[/name]? Obviously both are proper first names, but it might be a different way to avoid the nn [name]Andy[/name] for [name]Anderson[/name] (it’s OK, but it’s DH’s stephdad’s nn so ehhh–he’s a great man, but I dont’ necessarily need my kid going by the same nn).

Funny about “[name]Harry[/name].” I never used to like it and then i watched 10 seasons of MI5 (not British, I just [name]LOVE[/name] the show) and the name [name]Harry[/name] (the one character that stayed alive the whole time) really grew on me. Which was good, because I always liked the name [name]Harrison[/name].

I like [name]Anderson[/name], nn [name]Anders[/name] quite a bit! [name]Anderson[/name] Faris would be very hansome.

I like all the names except for [name]Harrison[/name]. I prefer [name]Pierce[/name] to [name]Piers[/name]. I think [name]Theodore[/name] is a handsome name and actually prefer it to the more popular [name]Sebastian[/name]. I also really like [name]Anderson[/name], and agree with pp.

So, I’m curious about real world reactions to [name]Theodore[/name]? I mentioned the name to my mom, who in turn mentioned it to my brother and sister in law and I definitely got the feeling they were all very ehhhhhh about it, although none could really pinpoint why they felt that way about it. And I honestly can’t remember the last time I met a [name]Theodore[/name] in real life??

[name]Pierce[/name] and [name]Piers[/name] for me seem a little awkward with the last name. Or maybe when you say “rhymes with” it doesn’t actually start with the C sound? They just sort of run into the last name a bit for me even though I think they’re very handsome on their own.

If he loves [name]Sebastian[/name], I think that’s wonderful. I don’t think nicknames should really bother someone that much, but I know that’s a very personal choice. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]. I grew up with a [name]Theodore[/name]/[name]Teddy[/name] in my class (I’m 28) and always thought it was awesome. [name]Even[/name] though it’s seen on here a lot, I haven’t seen it actually used much. I say spend a day or two calling the baby by each of the potential names and it usually helps things seem more clear - you may warm up more to a name you weren’t sure on, but you might also find that you don’t find a name as practical as you expected or that it just feels odd/wrong when you say it outloud all day. (I had a friend who did this with a baby girl whose names list had a good dozen names on it - it created a lot of interesting thoughts).

I like [name]Anderson[/name] and [name]Harrison[/name] but I don’t love them. -son names are handsome but I don’t find them very distinctive.

OK, so hubby just said he really like [name]William[/name] as well. It’s a name I asked him about ahile ago and he hated it. HA! Although it’s very popular so I’m not too sure about it??? Couldn’t go wrong with it.
