Oh, Sammy

I feel like I’m finally coming into the home-stretch on [name]Samuel[/name] combos. :slight_smile: And I’m down to two options:

[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Caspar[/name] (or [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Gaspard[/name]?)
[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Fitzwilliam[/name]

I’m a massive P&P fan, so [name]Fitzwilliam[/name] is for obvious reasons, and I really love it with [name]Samuel[/name]. I’m leaning toward [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Fitzwilliam[/name] [name]John[/name] for a full combo, if I go for [name]Fitzwilliam[/name]. My dad, brother, and grandfather are/were all Johns, and while I find it frankly quite boring and filler and uninteresting (and I really have no desire to be the sixteenth person in my family to use [name]John[/name]! Probably another reason I find [name]John[/name] a tad boring…), but with the fiery, slightly-over-the-top [name]Fitzwilliam[/name], I think you need something a little boring like [name]John[/name], and I do really like the full [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Fitzwilliam[/name] [name]John[/name]. And [name]Caspar[/name]–it honors my sister through the [name]Christmas[/name]/magi connection (she’s a [name]Natalie[/name]), and, in a roundabout way, it honors a very dear friend of mine who passed away in 2010. I’m really not sure about a second middle for [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Caspar[/name]–I’ve tossed around [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Caspar[/name] [name]John[/name], but I’m not 100% it.

Thoughts on [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Caspar[/name]/[name]Gaspard[/name] vs. [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Fitzwilliam[/name]? What would you use for the second middle, if not [name]John[/name]? And if neither [name]Caspar[/name] or [name]Fitzwilliam[/name], what would you pair with [name]Samuel[/name]? In the back of my mind, I’m still loving [name]Samuel[/name] Pimpernel [name]Gray[/name] (what little boy wouldn’t love having the scarlet pimpernel as a namesake?! Although a pimpernel is a flower, so some might see it as feminine? I still think [name]Samuel[/name] Pimpernel [name]Gray[/name] is unspeakably cool, though. :)) and [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Ciaran[/name]. [name]Ciaran[/name] would be in honor of my mother (a [name]Karen[/name]) and my grandmother (for her Irish lineage). Are either of those better than [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Caspar[/name] or [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Fitzwilliam[/name]?

Thanks, ladies!

Ooh, [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Gaspard[/name] is dreamy! Not keen on [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Caspar[/name] though, it lacks strength for me. [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Fitzwilliam[/name] [name]John[/name] is charming, too; but then I looove [name]John[/name]. It’s not boring, it’s classic and manly! However, I also like [name]Ivan[/name] and [name]Jonah[/name] (it has all the letters in it!) as ways to honour [name]John[/name].

Och, I keep forgetting about [name]Jonah[/name]! It is a rather awesome way to honor a [name]John[/name]. Although I’m not sure how well [name]Jonah[/name] fits with [name]Fitzgerald[/name] or [name]Caspar[/name], but I do think [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Fitzgerald[/name] [name]Jonah[/name] is interesting… And [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Jonah[/name] [name]Gaspard[/name] could work. Hmm. I also love [name]Jonah[/name] as a way to honor my grandmother, with it’s “dove” meaning–she is an avid bird lover! Does [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Jonah[/name] [name]Gaspard[/name] clash? I sort of like it, but I am just not sure.

Huge fan of [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Fitzwilliam[/name] [name]John[/name]

Anyone else? I’m strongly leaning toward keeping [name]John[/name] in all three cases–[name]Samuel[/name] [name]John[/name] [name]Gaspard[/name], [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Caspar[/name] [name]John[/name], or [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Fitzwilliam[/name] [name]John[/name]–although I can’t seem to choose between the three still. :confused: Which of the three do you like best?

Thanks!

I just wanted to comment and say that the combo [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Fitzwilliam[/name] [name]John[/name] sounds awesome. I like [name]Caspar[/name] too but, it doesn’t sound right with [name]Samuel[/name] and I can’t place it. It’s late and maybe I will better understand what I mean in the morning. You can always use alternatives to [name]John[/name] if you feel it’s overdone. [name]Jack[/name], [name]Ivan[/name], [name]Evan[/name] ect. are all wonderful names.

Good [name]Luck[/name]!

Oh my goodness! [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Gaspard[/name] is heaven! Please don’t stick [name]John[/name] in the middle. [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Gaspard[/name] [name]John[/name] works perfectly. I’m not too fond of [name]Fitzwilliam[/name].

@ottilie, you don’t think [name]Samuel[/name] [name]John[/name] [name]Gaspard[/name] flows better? I’ve always said [name]Gaspard[/name] more like gahs-PAHR[D], so I figured the flow of [name]SAM[/name]-yuhl [name]JOHN[/name] gahs-PAHRD was better than [name]SAM[/name]-yuhl gahs-PAHRD [name]JOHN[/name], but I like [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Gaspard[/name] [name]John[/name], too, I have no problem with that. :slight_smile: I have always had a thing for double-barrels with [name]John[/name] ([name]John[/name] [name]Peter[/name], [name]John[/name] [name]August[/name], [name]John[/name] [name]Michael[/name], [name]John[/name] [name]David[/name], etc.), so I sort of liked that [name]John[/name] [name]Gaspard[/name] sounded like a pretty cool [name]John[/name] double-barrel.

@babyninja - Oh, I’ve looked at them. :slight_smile: I have them employed all over my boys’ list elsewhere ([name]Jack[/name], [name]Ian[/name], and even on my girls’ list, [name]Giovanna[/name], [name]Jane[/name]…), but I like the simplicity and classic-ness of just [name]John[/name] with [name]Caspar[/name]/[name]Gaspard[/name] and [name]Fitzwilliam[/name].
