Ok forget the poll heres what I really want to know...

Ok sorry if your getting tired of this subject but I realized I really worded my poll wrong. I’m sure all of you would most likely choose the traditional spelling of [name]Carys[/name]. What I really want to ask is do you think its ok for ME to add an extra R (Carrys) in honor of a family member named [name]Carry[/name]? Or is that just stupid? Thank you for being patient with me and answering my posts!

It’s her middle name, its meaningful and either way is sounds the same. I say go for it. It’s not like you’re adding an R to be original, you have a back story to tell people that she one day can too. And it’s not like she’ll have to introduce herself as “Carrys with two R’s” anyway.

I think it is fine!

Unfortunately I think in this scenario it’s not going to work. Putting an extra ‘r’ in [name]Carys[/name] alters the pronunciation of the name and makes it sound like ‘carries’ : /

I think either go for [name]Carry[/name] to honour [name]Carry[/name] or stick with [name]Carys[/name] as it is. It still incorporates the first sound after all : )

I would stick with [name]Carys[/name]. It looks much prettier and it’s the original, and it could still honour [name]Carry[/name].

If you like it Carrys then spell it that way. I think it’s a mn w/meaning to you is what is important. [name]How[/name] many times is mn used? And when you say her name is ________ Carrys, how many times is someone going to ask how do you spell that?

Carrys looks sort of funny, so I’d use [name]Carys[/name] or just go for [name]Carry[/name] or [name]Carrie[/name].

I agree, [name]Carys[/name] is still close enough to [name]Carry[/name] that the connection makes sense. I don’t think there’s any need to alter a perfectly good spelling. And you can always call her [name]Carry[/name] as a nickname.

I think it’s fine to use the spelling Carrys. If it means that much more to you to add the extra ‘R’ then by all means do it. I think [name]Carys[/name] is still close enough to [name]Carry[/name] that it doesn’t matter whether the extra ‘R’ is there. The important thing is that you’re happy with the name and spelling of it.

I agree with this

Well the good news is my DH just informed me he LOVES [name]Juniper[/name] [name]Carys[/name]/Carrys. Now to decide on the spelling. Your all making good points. I’m just still a little undecided. Hubby was no help. He said he doesn’t care about the spelling…

I’d stick with [name]Carys[/name], it still holds meaning!

I would stick with [name]Carys[/name], it still honours [name]Carry[/name] and I think it looks nicer spelt like the original.

Honestly I’d never heard of the name [name]Carys[/name] until I came to Nameberry so my guess is your average person isn’t going to know how to spell it anyways. I think it’s entirely up to you. If it feels more meaningful to you being spelled Carrys then that is what matters. I hear over and over again on here that middle name is pretty much anything goes or that meaningful is the way to go so I don’t understand why I’m hearing the opposite of that now over simply doubling up a letter in the middle of the name. Follow your heart not public opinion.

Thanks kikndehead that makes a lot of sense. And to everyone for your opinions. I think I am just divided between feeling like my dad won’t see it as the same without the spelling Carrys and liking the look of [name]Carys[/name] better. … not that my dad will throw a fit or something but I don’t want it to be a mute point.

Why not ask your dad?

I agree with the others-- [name]Carys[/name] is a very obvious homage to her deceased uncle [name]Carry[/name]. My guess is that your dad will be very touched that [name]Carry[/name] was honored in such a way, and probably won’t be hung up on the spelling. You can ask him, too, why he chose to spell [name]Carry[/name] with an extra R back when he was naming his babies-- and if his reason makes a lot of sense and if you’d like to carry (!) on with that particular meaning, go for it.

Otherwise, I’d stick with [name]Carys[/name]. It’s a beautiful, trim, elegant name. [name]Juniper[/name] [name]Carys[/name] looks very distinctive and distinguished. An extra R won’t detract from the overall image, but in my eyes it loses a little bit of its luster.
