[name]Olivia[/name] - Couldn’t care ~ It’s OK don’t really get why it’s so popular
[name]Gertrude[/name] - really dislike ~ Old-fashioned and musty!
[name]Dorothy[/name] - couldn’t care/ dislike ~ I like the cute nicknames [name]Dolly[/name]/[name]Dotty[/name] but not too keen on the full name.

[name]Hi[/name]! Here we go…

[name]Hesther[/name] - [name]Hester[/name]? This spelling is horrid, but I’m not a [name]Hester[/name] fan, either. So, really dislike.

[name]Vera[/name] - I don’t not like it, but I don’t love it. I think it is simple and elegant, so I’ll go with “almost like.”

[name]Ava[/name] - I suppose I couldn’t care about this one. It is pretty enough, but it doesn’t wow me…

[name]Olivia[/name] - I actually do like this name a good deal! My favorite of the popular set, perhaps.

[name]Gertrude[/name] - Sorry, but I really, sincerely, dislike this name. There is no feminine, melodic, pretty quality to it for me!

[name]Dorothy[/name] - I don’t much care for [name]Dorothy[/name], to be honest, but I certainly don’t think its awful! Let’s go with couldn’t care…

[name]Sophia[/name] - Perhaps my second favorite of the popular set, I think it is feminine, elegant, and beautiful. Let’s go with like!

[name]Julia[/name] - This is a classic, feminine, lovely name. Definitely really like!

[name]Susanne[/name]/[name]Suzanne[/name]/[name]Susannah[/name] - I strongly dislike [name]Susan[/name], [name]Susanne[/name], [name]Suzanne[/name], and [name]Sue[/name], but I actually have a soft space in my heart for Miss [name]Susannah[/name]! So, [name]Susannah[/name] is a like, but the rest I think are awfully dated.

[name]Lillian[/name] - I don’t love this at all, but it isn’t terrible! I prefer [name]Lilia[/name], but I think [name]Lily[/name] is slightly too light and youthful, so let’s go with couldn’t care…

I respect others’ opinions on these names and ask that you don’t take mine personally! All in good fun, right?

[name]Lemon[/name]

No problem  I dislike them all, so whether people like them or not really doesn’t phase me  Everyone has different tastes & that’s how it should be.

Yep, [name]Hesther[/name] is real. I also dislike [name]Esther[/name],[name]Esther[/name],[name]Hester[/name] etc

[name]Vera[/name]- Couldn’t Care. It’s cute, but to nickname-y
[name]Ava[/name]- Dislike.

[name]Hesther[/name] - dislike
[name]Vera[/name] - neutral, I would never use it but it’s not bad
[name]Ava[/name] - like, it’s very sweet and sophisticated but it’s popularity takes this away from it.
[name]Olivia[/name] - neutral, seems pretentious

[name]Lillian[/name] - I love [name]Lily[/name] but prefer [name]Lilianne[/name] or [name]Lilliana[/name] better because they’re a little spunkier, but I do like [name]Lillian[/name] a lot, especially because it’s my grandmother’s name.

Overall reaction: a typical list of names that are common and/or liked on this site. With one obvious exception.

[name]Hesther[/name] - Like [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Esther[/name] is a name I didn’t realize was considered dated. Not that it’s one I’d use; its Old Testament association ruins what would otherwise be a nice name. It should be - it’s Persian, not Hebrew. But [name]Hester[/name]… very strange, harsh. [name]Hesther[/name] is worse, because I don’t know whether to say it with a T (like [name]Theresa[/name] being said like [name]Teresa[/name]) or TH.
[name]Vera[/name] - It’s got a V, it’s short and simple, it’s a virtue by meaning. I should be able to get over its oldness. I’m not sure that’s in fact the reason I don’t like it, but I don’t. I don’t think there’s a name meaning “true/truth” I’m ever going to like.
[name]Julia[/name] - Odd that some consider it dated, when it’s never been uncommon. Blandly attractive. Prefer [name]Juliet[/name] (as everyone seems to) and [name]Yulia[/name].
[name]Susanne[/name]/[name]Suzanne[/name]/Sussanah ANY variant - You’ll never make me care about any form of [name]Susan[/name]. Mildly dislike.
[name]Lillian[/name] - Unnecessary frills make [name]Lily[/name] less attractive.

[name]Hesther[/name]- dislike- I like [name]Esther[/name] but the H in the beginning makes it sound so harsh.
[name]Vera[/name]- couldn’t care.
[name]Ava[/name]- dislike. Not just because it’s popular
[name]Olivia[/name]- couldn’t care.
[name]Gertrude[/name]- really dislike.
[name]Dorothy[/name]- Couldn’t care. I’m on the fence about this one.
[name]Sophia[/name]- Like.
[name]Julia[/name]- Couldn’t care. It is a fine name, just not my thing.
[name]Susanne[/name]/[name]Suzanne[/name]/Sussanah ANY variant- like.
[name]Lillian[/name]- like.

Really dislike: [name]Hesther[/name], [name]Gertrude[/name], [name]Dorothy[/name]

Dislike: [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Lillian[/name]

[name]Don[/name]'t care: [name]Ava[/name], [name]Vera[/name]

Like: [name]Sophia[/name]

Really like: [name]Julia[/name], [name]Susannah[/name]

[name]Hesther[/name]- Meh. I like [name]Hester[/name], but never for an actual child. It reminds me of a character in one of my favorite books.

[name]Vera[/name]- Dislike. For some reason, this has a really harsh sound to me.

[name]Ava[/name]- Dislike. I actually heard a woman call her child this in a store. I had never really heard it out loud and it rubbed me the wrong way.

[name]Olivia[/name]- Dislike. More for personal associations. I knew a pretty nasty [name]Olivia[/name] and she sort of ruined it for me. But I really like [name]Olive[/name].

[name]Gertrude[/name]- Like. Being a [name]Shakespeare[/name] fan, I can actually get my head around this one… not that she’s the best character to emulate, but…

[name]Dorothy[/name]- Like. Never would have thought I’d like it, but I think it has some charm after reading [name]Wizard[/name] of [name]Oz[/name] and that woman’s post about deciding to name her daughter this.

[name]Sophia[/name]- [name]Love[/name]. I adore the nn [name]Sophie[/name], but can’t seem to get over how much everyone else does too.

[name]Julia[/name]- Dislike. For some reason, this name has never appealed to me. I like [name]Juliet[/name] though.

[name]Susanne[/name]/[name]Suzanne[/name]/Sussanah ANY variant- Really dislike. [name]Susie[/name] is cute, but it’s not enough to give any life to any of these.

[name]Lillian[/name]- [name]Love[/name]. I know how popular this is, and I don’t care for the full [name]Lillian[/name], but my niece’s name is [name]Lillian[/name] and the nn [name]Lily[/name] is just so darling throughout her whole life.

[name]Hesther[/name] - Really Dislike
[name]Vera[/name] - Dislike
[name]Ava[/name] - Really Dislike
[name]Olivia[/name] - Like
[name]Gertrude[/name] - Really Dislike
[name]Dorothy[/name] - Neutral
[name]Sophia[/name] - Dislike
[name]Julia[/name] - Neutral
[name]Susanne[/name]/[name]Suzanne[/name]/Sussanah ANY variant - Neutral
[name]Lillian[/name] - Dislike

I love the name [name]Cecily[/name]!

I also love the name [name]Veronica[/name] nn [name]Vera[/name]. I know a [name]Veronika[/name], and she spells her name with a “k”. She is named after her aunt who lives in Poland. But my husband doesn’t like the name [name]Vera[/name]. Not one bit. Too bad!

I love [name]Veronica[/name], too, and ever since you mentioned [name]Vera[/name] as a nickname, I love that, too.

[name]Hesther[/name] ” really dislike. Nuff said.
[name]Vera[/name] ” like, but with the designer connections not sure that I can picture it on a child.
[name]Ava[/name] ” really like, but wouldn”t use because of the popularity. Wonderful name though, adorable for a baby, but also sophisticated for a woman.
[name]Olivia[/name] ” like, always makes me think of the mom on the Waltons ?
[name]Gertrude[/name] ” really dislike, just so clunky and old fashioned, and not really in a cute way
[name]Dorothy[/name] ” like, and beginning to really like. Family name, so glad its wiping off its grandma image for new little girls!
[name]Sophia[/name] ” like, just a pretty name
[name]Julia[/name] ” Couldn”t care
[name]Susanne[/name]/[name]Suzanne[/name]/Sussanah ANY variant ” couldn”t care leaning toward dislike.
[name]Lillian[/name] ” couldn”t care, but I always think of the little girl on rugrats lol.

[name]Love[/name] reading everyones opinions like this  Gives me new insight to some names that I hadnt’ considered before!

[name]Hesther[/name] - spelt [name]Hester[/name], I quite like this one. It has vintage charm, but the Hes- sound is not beautiful … I prefer [name]Esther[/name]. Like.
[name]Vera[/name] - I love both the sound and meaning of this one, although I prefer [name]Verity[/name]. [name]Love[/name].
[name]Ava[/name] - I used to like this one (although I much prefer plain old [name]Eve[/name]), but having heard of so many little Avas, it is starting to wear thin. So-so.
[name]Olivia[/name] - as with [name]Ava[/name], a nice sound, but so over-used. So-so.
[name]Gertrude[/name] - I wish that this was pretty enough for a comeback … but no. Dislike.
[name]Dorothy[/name] - I adore this name; one of our twins is going to be named [name]Dorothea[/name] nn [name]Dottie[/name]. [name]LOVE[/name]
[name]Sophia[/name] - beautiful, and the popularity hasn’t quite turned me against it, yet. Really like.
[name]Julia[/name] - nice, simple yet feminine. Like.
[name]Susanne[/name]/[name]Suzanne[/name]/Sussanah - I find the name itself nice in a rather simple way, but I adore the nicknames [name]Susie[/name], [name]Sukie[/name] and [name]Anna[/name]. Like.
[name]Lillian[/name] - a pretty, vintage choice, but personally I prefer just [name]Lily[/name]. Like.
