Hello berries.
I am an aspiring writer.
I need a REALLY aristocratic(upper class) british girl’s name for a main character in my short novel.
Undoubted aristocratic, yet lovely and fascinating name I need.
Also I hope it has some romantic feel and if possible, NOT a popular name.
I have already posted a thread here before, but I’d love to get more feedback!
So please, please suggest me more.
And, what do you think of [name]Evangeline[/name], [name]Serena[/name], [name]Georgiana[/name], [name]Darcy[/name] and [name]Diana[/name]? These are the names you suggested before.
[name]Do[/name] you think they are fit my criteria?
[name]Evangeline[/name]- I think of an angel, not an aristocrat.
[name]Serena[/name]- I think it’s more middle to lower class
[name]Georgiana[/name]- Definitely aristocratic
[name]Darcy[/name]- Sounds cheap
[name]Diana[/name]- Classy, not necessarily upper class.
Of your names I’d say [name]Georgiana[/name].
[name]Evangeline[/name] is too popular and isn’t very aristocratic IMHO. [name]Serena[/name] could work, however I don’t think it’s a very pretty name. [name]Darcy[/name] is more of a last name than a first name to me. [name]Diana[/name] isn’t your average upper class name.
I’d still go with either [name]Cosima[/name], [name]Araminta[/name], [name]Davina[/name], [name]Tamara[/name], [name]Fenella[/name] or [name]Edwina[/name] if I was you.
[name]Serena[/name] or [name]Georgiana[/name]. The other are not upper class names, especially not [name]Darcy[/name]. It is used by the upper class/upper middle class for boys. It also depends on when your character was born. (I don’t mean to sound snooty, but being from the upper middle class with a boyfriend from an old aristocratic upper class family, I’d have a look at the names I listed you again. They are real upper class names.)
I agree [name]Georgiana[/name] is the most aristocratic on your list.
[name]Athena[/name], [name]Honora[/name], [name]Primrose[/name], [name]Vesper[/name], [name]Saffron[/name], Antonia, and [name]Vivienne[/name] are my suggestions
From your list [name]Evangeline[/name] or [name]Serena[/name] for sure.
Other options:
[name]Ophelia[/name]
[name]Zara[/name]
[name]Nadine[/name]
[name]Tabitha[/name]
[name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Mila[/name]
[name]Katerina[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Rosamond[/name]? [name]Esmeralda[/name]? [name]Adelaide[/name]? [name]Philomena[/name]? [name]Cecily[/name]/[name]Cecilie[/name]? [name]Lucinda[/name]? [name]Genevieve[/name] is clearly too french, I guess. And I’m not sure if any of the others would be worn my a british aristocrat…
I agree, [name]Georgiana[/name] is most suitable from your list. [name]Evangeline[/name] & [name]Serena[/name] don’t have a great history of use in the aristocracy, [name]Diana[/name] is linked with the princess and, in literature, [name]Darcy[/name] is too tied to Pride and Prejudice.
When is your story set? Present day or historical? That would help a little.
Looking at names actually used in ducal families, I’d suggest: [name]Christiana[/name], [name]Lavinia[/name], [name]Augusta[/name], [name]Blanche[/name], [name]Hyacinth[/name], [name]Evelyn[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Henrietta[/name], [name]Geraldine[/name], [name]Frances[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Camilla[/name], [name]Constance[/name], [name]Alexandra[/name], [name]Lillian[/name], [name]Dorothea[/name], [name]Cecilia[/name]
