Ok the last time... Augustin vs Augustus

So we are 99.9 percent sure we want to use [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] if our next one is a boy.

But we both actually prefer the name [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]. It has great history and it sounds better with our last name pronounced like [name_u]Winn[/name_u] and we like the sound better.

The problem? My husbands name is C@es@r.

So I’ve asked this before but got mixed responses and thought I’d ask again.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think that is just too corny? Or do you think it’s a sweet connection? What would you think of a real life father son pairing of these two names?

Thanks for your help we are pretty torn. Well I am anyway. He thinks its fine but I have reservations.

Also, I know [name_u]August[/name_u] is going to be recommended but my husband does not like the name so that compromise is out.

Bump. Anyone? :frowning:

I can see where you are concerned about [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] with his father’s name. I think that if you both truly prefer [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] then go for it. I like [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] too, but I think you should go with the one that feels right to y’all! Good luck, either way his name will be awesome.

Personally, I prefer the name [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]. But I see what you mean about the [name_m]Caesar[/name_m] thing! I’m with you about going with [name_m]Augustin[/name_m]. [name_m]Caesar[/name_m] and [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] is a little much. That’s just my opinion though.

I prefer [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] to [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]. Good luck!

If you both really prefer [name_m]Augustus[/name_m], I think you should use [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]. Yes, it’s a little amusing to have a father and son [name_m]Caesar[/name_m]/[name_m]Augustus[/name_m], but I would notice that connection with [name_m]Caesar[/name_m] and any of the [name_u]August[/name_u] names…[name_m]Augustus[/name_m] is the most obvious, sure, but the connection is there with all the [name_u]August[/name_u] options.

That said, [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] is another option I didn’t see you mention, and because it would be associated with the well known St. [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] of Hippo, that might seem a teensy bit less [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] [name_m]Caesar[/name_m]-y? It would also sound better with a last name like [name_u]Winn[/name_u] than [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] would…and I just wanted to throw it out there as it is my favorite Auggie name. Really, you guys should go with the name you love. [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] [name_m]Caesar[/name_m] is kind of a fun father-son connection.

I think it’s sort of much, but at the same time, I think it’s pretty cool to have that connection.

Personally, I just prefer [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] to [name_m]Augusten[/name_m] and I think it sounds better with your last name. Go with what you both love the most.

I’m with niftylavalamp: the connection is going to be there with all the [name_u]August[/name_u] names. I say just go with the name you’re really happy with. They won’t be constantly introduced together all their lives, anyway.

I think you should put your reservations aside and choose the name you love: [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]. Won’t he be going by [name_u]Gus[/name_u] anyway? Does your husband go by [name_m]Caesar[/name_m] or does he have a nn?

I prefer the name [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] personally. I think it will start becoming more popular, which you may want to consider. I like it because of the connection it has to the book “The Fault in Our Stars” by [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_u]Green[/name_u], which was fantastic and very touching - the main male character was named [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]. Best of luck!

I tihnk it would be fine.
it might be too much for brothers, but father and son? no problem.

Thank you everyone for your replies! I’m still pretty torn though :frowning:

I do still really like [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] so it seems like that is the better choice since the connection isn’t as obvious as [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] is even though we love [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] more.

Bah this sucks :frowning:

Go for what you love! I agree that the connection will be there with either. [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] sounds better with your last name, plus you like it more.

[name_m]AugustIN[/name_m] [name_u]WINN[/name_u] rhymes a bit, though that isn’t really a problem because of where the emphasis falls.

[name_m]Augustus[/name_m] [name_u]Winn[/name_u] is a pretty fantastic name–all the options are, really–but I think if you go for that you have to embrace it. And keep giving your children awesome names–[name_m]Leo[/name_m]'s the name of several Byzantine emperors, so you’d be off to a superb start.

Seriously though, your husband’s name is Cåésår [name_u]Winn[/name_u]? As in an emperor and winning? Your family’s amazing.
(I get that the name is spelled differently, but it’s still fantastic.)

I’d go for [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]. You’ll just be a family of superb, memorable people, that’s all.

I’d go with [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] if that’s what you prefer. It has a great flow with your surname, and it’s just a fantastic name. [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] is great too, but I prefer [name_m]Augustus[/name_m].

I have to laugh at myself though, I misread your post at first and somehow thought your last name was C@esar. Now that would be too much!

I prefer [name_m]Augustine[/name_m], I think it’s a very nice name

I personally like [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] better, and it seems that both you and your husband do too. The [name_m]Ceasar[/name_m] connection makes me smile, but I don’t think it is a bad thing by any means, and agree that any of the [name_u]August[/name_u] names lend themselves to the association so you aren’t really avoiding it with [name_m]Augustin[/name_m]. Quite honestly I have a feeling that many people probably won’t even notice it, unless every introduction you ever make will be stated exactly like “This is [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] and [name_m]Ceasar[/name_m]…” which seems unlikely, haha.

I always feel a bit bad bringing this up (because it’s more silly than anything) but depending on where you are from, my reason for disliking [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] is that it sounds too much like a phrase to me. Anyone pronouncing it with a Southern accent tends to make me think of the words ‘a gust in’ such as “There’s a gust in the trees, looks like a storm is on the way!” or something to that effect. Again, that isn’t really a bad connotation even if you do encounter it, it’s just the weird personal reason that [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] feels more like a name to me, lol. I think you should go with the name you both love and the bonus point is that [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] is the version that sounds the best with your last name as well. Good luck! =]

I vastly prefer [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]. [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] has always felt…incomplete to me, like it’s come to a halt too quickly. [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] is rich and well-rounded. I love it.
