OK, this is the final list!!!

OK, i have been posting on this for the last couple of weeks as I am adopting a daughter and need help with finalization of her name. Below is the final list of names to choose from–the can be first of middle–but somewhere I am going to incorporate her given name, Almaz. My last name is [name]Howard[/name]. Here are the considerations

  1. using an M, E or L name to honor relatives
  2. the meanings --some mean joy, loved, bright-eyes (the first thing when i thought when i saw her photo)
  3. the fact that i got matched with her in february – so season, holiday etc. were factored in
  4. some i just like

SOOOO… below is the final list. i would like your help with the what two or three names sound best with almaz and my last name howard. almaz can take any position in the name. please don’t add any more suggestions as you can see i am indecisive enough already!!

__________ __________ (___________ ) howard

thanks so much!!!

[name]Madeline[/name] [name]Rachel[/name]

A few -

[name]Daphne[/name] Almaz [name]Miranada[/name] [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]
Almaz [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name] Almaz [name]Brooke[/name] [name]Howard[/name] - I prefer [name]Brooke[/name] spelled this way for a girl.
[name]Daphne[/name] [name]Brooke[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Neve[/name] [name]Daphne[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]

With Almaz as a first name you could use [name]Allie[/name] or [name]Mazey[/name]/[name]Mazie[/name] as a nn.

It’s a long but fun list. Congrats on your new daughter!

Some suggestions:
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Elyse[/name] Almaz or [name]Charlotte[/name] Almaz [name]Elyse[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Louise[/name] Almaz
[name]Leah[/name] [name]Daphne[/name] Almaz
[name]Zaria[/name] [name]Rachel[/name] Almaz
[name]Eleanor[/name] Almaz [name]Brooke[/name]
[name]Zoe[/name] [name]Brooke[/name] Almaz
[name]Miranda[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] Almaz
[name]Madeline[/name] [name]Rachel[/name] Almaz
[name]Evelyn[/name] Almaz [name]Quinn[/name]

[name]Lauren[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] Almaz [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Leah[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Alexis[/name] [name]Brooklyn[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]

Yes, that’s a very long list, with a lot of variety! Plus, I think Almaz is great, but I understand your desire to choose her name.

I would say no to names that signal another ethnicity, like [name]Quinn[/name], [name]Neve[/name], [name]Priya[/name], or [name]Miriam[/name]. Too confusing.

My favorites of your choices are [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Miranda[/name], and [name]Louise[/name]. With a straightforward surname like [name]Howard[/name], you can get away with a more elaborate first name, and I would advise something with three syllables (or more) and frankly feminine, as [name]Howard[/name] is a masculine name – so [name]Drew[/name] [name]Howard[/name], to me, has a very heavy masculine vibe, and even [name]Elyse[/name] [name]Howard[/name] (2-2) is not nearly as pleasing as [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Howard[/name].

[name]Louise[/name] can work as a middle name. Or a one syllable middle name would be good to balance things out. So how about:

[name]Miranda[/name] [name]Louise[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name] [name]Claire[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Miranda[/name] or [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Faith[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]

thanks for helping me to narrow it down. especially pam with the good suggestions about [name]Howard[/name] sounding masculine and avoiding other ethnicities to limit confusion. very helpful! i am going to narrow it down further this weekend!!!

So I have narrowed it down considerably!

middle names choices:

OR use three names and put Almaz as the third (Almaz must be there 2nd or 3rd)

last name is howard

I love these [name]Evelyn[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Naomi[/name] a firsts, they’re gorgeous! Here are some suggestions…

[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Grace[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] Almaz [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Faith[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]

[name]Charlotte[/name] Almaz [name]Winter[/name] [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] Almaz [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Howard[/name]

[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Hope[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name] Almaz [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name] Almaz [name]Winter[/name] [name]Howard[/name]

I’m not personally a fan of [name]Miranda[/name] but I can see it’s appeal…

[name]Miranda[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Miranda[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Miranda[/name] [name]Faith[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]

Although I love [name]Charlotte[/name] I would go with a 3 syllable first name to balance out [name]Howard[/name]. So [name]Evelyn[/name], [name]Naomi[/name] and [name]Miranda[/name] would fit really well. Good luck choosing

I found two I love:
[name]Charlotte[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name] and [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]. I especially love [name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]. Good luck on choosing a name for your darling little girl!

[name]Lauren[/name] - a nice name, and I like the family connection, but not my favourite.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] - such a classic, with lots of nn options.
[name]Leah[/name] - I love this one! Laidback and simple, but feminine.
[name]Emerson[/name] - due to the massive popularity of [name]Emma[/name] and (M)[name]Addison[/name], this one feels a little trendy to me … You may like [name]Emmeline[/name].
[name]Winter[/name] - quite nice, and I like the nn [name]Winnie[/name] (my name, as I am [name]Winifred[/name]), but I don’t like it as much as some of your other choices.
[name]Miranda[/name] - I love this one; a beautiful, feminine, literary choice.
[name]Louise[/name] - a vintage classic. You may also like [name]Eloise[/name].
[name]Ruby[/name] - not my favourite gemstone name …
[name]Eleanor[/name] - a pretty choice with the sweet nns [name]Ellie[/name] and [name]Nora[/name].
[name]Claire[/name] - nice, but a little plain for my taste. You may also like [name]Clara[/name].
[name]Naomi[/name] - I am personally not so fond of this one, but it does have a nice sound.
[name]Quinn[/name] - this one seems very masculine to me.
[name]Brook[/name]/[name]Brooklyn[/name] - [name]Brooke[/name] is alright, but I am afraid that [name]Brooklyn[/name] seems awfully trendy … You may like [name]Blythe[/name].
[name]Courtney[/name] - this one seems a little dated to me … very 80s.
[name]Alexis[/name] - very popular. [name]How[/name] about the more classic [name]Alexandra[/name]?
[name]Charlotte[/name] nn [name]Charlie[/name] - a classic, with a nice, spunky nn (there is also the adorable [name]Lottie[/name]).
[name]Danielle[/name] nn [name]Danni[/name] - I am afraid that this one seems a little dated to me.
[name]Madeline[/name] - pretty, but slightly tarnished by the popularity of [name]Madison[/name], and all of the misspellings out there. Are you pronouncing this -line or -lenn?
[name]Rachel[/name] - nice, but a little plain for my taste.
[name]Zoe[/name] - not my favourite on the list.
[name]Drew[/name] - even with [name]Drew[/name] Barrymore, I cannot like this on a girl.
[name]Miriam[/name] - I really adore this name; it is feminine but not fussy at all. Like [name]Pam[/name] said, though, it may add confusion as it is most popular in [name]Israel[/name] and among Jewish people … that definitely does not rule it out as a middle, though!
[name]Amanda[/name] - I adore this one! Did you know that it is a gerund? Gerunds mean ‘must ____’. [name]Amanda[/name] means ‘must be loved’.
[name]Gabriella[/name] - very popular. You may also like [name]Rafaella[/name].
[name]Nevada[/name] - I’m not sure about this one … I just think Las [name]Vegas[/name], to be honest.
[name]Zaria[/name] - very pretty! But is it zar-ee-a or zah-r-eye-uh?
[name]Daphne[/name] - a beautiful, feminine, vintage choice!
[name]Priya[/name] - beautiful, but I agree with [name]Pam[/name], I’m afraid.
[name]Neve[/name] - I actually think this one would be alright. It is a beautiful, simple name, and you would be using the anglicised spelling, so it doesn’t shout ‘Irish’ to me. Besides, I believe that Irish names are fairly popular over there in [name]America[/name], in general.
[name]Evelyn[/name] - a pretty, vintage choice.
[name]Eliza[/name] - so lovely.
[name]Elyse[/name] - spelt [name]Elise[/name], I think this is wonderful.
[name]Faith[/name] - not my favourite virtue name due to its popularity. You may like [name]Verity[/name], [name]Felicity[/name] or [name]Amity[/name].
Kavia - I don’t like the sound of this one as much as some of the others. You may also like [name]Katya[/name], but that would be confusing nationality-wise.
[name]Nadine[/name] - this one seems a little dated to me.
[name]Nayana[/name] - pretty.
[name]Najila[/name] - I think this one could be a little confusing on the pronunciation front.

Good luck!

I like [name]Naomi[/name] best as a first name for her. I also like [name]Eliza[/name] that [name]Pam[/name] suggested. A three-syllable first name is perfect with [name]Howard[/name]. I am so glad you still plan to use Almaz. I think it will be a great way to validate her background, so that it is not repressed or denied. I think it is a loving and respectful thing to do. Plus, the name is beautiful!

[name]Naomi[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Claire[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name] [name]Claire[/name] Almaz [name]Howard[/name]

I like from your list…
