Okay, so what do you think of my new crushes (list).

These are some I’ve been thinking a lot about for a month or two (it’s an assortment)…

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]
[name_f]Raphaela[/name_f]
[name_f]Tavia[/name_f] (is this tahv-yah or tay-vee-uh?)
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Azalea[/name_f]
[name_f]Isaline[/name_f] (iz-ah-leen)
[name_f]Asia[/name_f] (I know people see this as tacky and I get that, because usually I dislike place names but I genuinely think this is REALLY pretty. It’s so warm and has a beautiful dark curly hair image)
[name_f]Isis[/name_f]
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] (-lene endings are so aesthetically gorgeous for some reason)
[name_f]Portia[/name_f]

What do you think? Please be critical, but constructive is also nice!

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] - I like it, but not ‘lav’ as a first syllable.
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u] - Feels dated and '80s to me. I would assume the mother was [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] and the baby something else.
[name_f]Raphaela[/name_f] - I love this one. An image of big dark eyes, silky dark hair… just gorgeous.
[name_f]Tavia[/name_f] - I’ve heard tay-vee-uh, but it’s always been short for [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] in those examples and I don’t know if that’s impacting it.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - [name_f]Love[/name_f].
[name_f]Azalea[/name_f] - Spunky and cute. I am missing azaleas the flower a lot at the moment.
[name_f]Isaline[/name_f] - Prefer [name_f]Isidora[/name_f], but I do like it somewhat.
[name_f]Asia[/name_f] - No.
[name_f]Isis[/name_f] - I like it but I feel like [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is more usable? I don’t know. [name_f]Isis[/name_f] is lovely. I like that [name_f]Isidora[/name_f] relates to it…? I worry that [name_f]Isis[/name_f] itself is a bit of a guilty pleasure.
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Marceline[/name_f], but [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] just feels too [name_m]Christian[/name_m] for my family, it may work for yours.
[name_f]Portia[/name_f] - I like it but the people that would mispell it Porche or go “like the car” would aggravate me to tears. I would go with [name_f]Viola[/name_f] or another Shakespearean name instead, honestly.

Yep, this is how I feel about all of these… you’ve pretty much explained why they’re not on my list, officially.

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]- It’s growing on me. I used to think it sounds really old, but now it seems kind of refreshing.
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]- Trendy, but it is alright I guess. All the [name_u]Brooke[/name_u]'s I know are really pretty, so that is what I think of.
[name_f]Raphaela[/name_f]- I love this. It is a GP for me, because I can’t really picture it on a real girl, but I think it is really beautiful and stunning. [name_m]How[/name_m] I would love to meet a little [name_f]Raphaela[/name_f]!
[name_f]Tavia[/name_f] (is this tahv-yah or tay-vee-uh?)- I would pronounce it either way. I would ask the person first. It feels short and awkward. I prefer it as a nn to [name_f]Octavia[/name_f].
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]- I think it sound pretty, like the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] goddess connection, but dislike the princess connection. So that turns me off to the name.
[name_f]Azalea[/name_f]- I really like this one. [name_f]Love[/name_f] the sound and flower imagery. I feel like it would need a nn, but I’m not liking any of them. I guess Zalie is nice I guess. But you could use it without a nickname.
[name_f]Isaline[/name_f] (iz-ah-leen)- Like this one. [name_u]Isa[/name_u] is a cute nn.
[name_f]Asia[/name_f]- All the Asias I’ve known are really bratty, so I don’t like the name. And it is a continent. What if she goes to [name_f]Asia[/name_f]? I think it is kind of awkward.
[name_f]Isis[/name_f]- I like it, but it is just okay. [name_m]How[/name_m] about Briseis. I think it is a bit more spunky than [name_f]Isis[/name_f].
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]- I like [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]. Prefer [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] (but then again I love -[name_f]Lena[/name_f] endings). [name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce it? I say -leen at the end, I know others say differently. I think [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] needs a comeback and it is really classy. And you could use [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] or [name_f]Lena[/name_f] when she is growing up. Perfect.
[name_f]Portia[/name_f]- Car, that is what it remind me of. Never really been a fan.
My favorites are: [name_f]Raphaela[/name_f], [name_f]Azalea[/name_f], [name_f]Isaline[/name_f], & [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]

The stand outs:
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u] will always be classic in MY book for some reason. I really don’t see it ever truly fading.

[name_f]Raphaela[/name_f] is a total current crush of mine too! Loving it.

I would pronounce [name_f]Tavia[/name_f] as tahv-ee-uh. It’s okay.

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is great.

[name_f]Isaline[/name_f] is interesting. I’ll have to think about it.

[name_f]Asia[/name_f] is an big no-no for me.

Everything else is NMS.

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] - this is pretty sounding, but not much beyond that, I think?
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u] - this seems a little generic/out of place among these other names?
[name_f]Raphaela[/name_f] - I like [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] a lot, but the ‘a’ strikes me as a kind of forced addition? Like [name_f]Davida[/name_f], etc.
[name_f]Tavia[/name_f] - I’ve only heard this pronounced like in ‘[name_f]Octavia[/name_f]’. I don’t know exactly what about this appeals to me, but it definitely does.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - I like this mostly for the nickname ‘[name_u]Rory[/name_u]’, honestly, but it’s sweet enough.
[name_f]Azalea[/name_f] - this is gorgeous. Sweet but with an edge.
[name_f]Isaline[/name_f] - I like a lot of names with a similar sound to this, so I’m not sure why I don’t like this? Maybe it sounds too much like vaseline?
[name_f]Asia[/name_f] - I don’t mind place names in general, but I do mind place names that seem to be (though aren’t necessarily in your case) picked for their exoticism, and [name_f]Asia[/name_f] seems to be a part of the latter category.
[name_f]Isis[/name_f] - I prefer [name_f]Isadora[/name_f], but this is a super strong name that could be very interesting.
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] - I love the sound, but it’s too deeply rooted in religion for me.
[name_f]Portia[/name_f] - I’m with stripedsocks: sounds too much like the car.

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] – Not a huge fan, feels rather dated and not in a good vintage way
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u] – It’s a classic trendy name
[name_f]Raphaela[/name_f] – [name_f]Love[/name_f] this, comes off as very sexy
[name_f]Tavia[/name_f] – I would pronounce as tahv-yah and actually quite like it, but hate the tay-vee-uh pronunciation
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] – This is on my short list for a middle name, so gorgeous and love the nickname [name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_f]Azalea[/name_f] – Very cute nature name, but with an edge from the z. I actually think Z would be the cutest nickname
[name_f]Isaline[/name_f] – Seems like a mix between [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], not really a fan
[name_f]Asia[/name_f] – Writing this from [name_f]Asia[/name_f] right now, it comes across quite tacky. I can’t imagine being in [name_f]Asia[/name_f] and introducing yourself as [name_f]Asia[/name_f].
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] – Too biblical for my taste
[name_f]Portia[/name_f] – Not really a fan, reminds me of the car

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] - it’s never been a favorite (not when I can use [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] so easily!) but I do like it, and I like the nn [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. It’s fun and vintage.
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u] - it’s all right, I suppose, but the only other guy my mom seriously dated before she married my dad was [name_u]Brooke[/name_u]–so it’s always seemed rather trendy on a girl to me. My best friend in second grade had [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] for a middle, and I always thought it was so beautiful back then! It just seems sort of tired now.
[name_f]Raphaela[/name_f] - not a huge fan. I don’t know why–I just don’t like it.
[name_f]Tavia[/name_f] - I say [name_u]TAY[/name_u]-vee-ah, like [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]. I’ve always liked [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] immensely more.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - [name_f]LOVE[/name_f]. IT! If it didn’t sound so bad with my surname (which is very “R” heavy), I’d probably consider it much more seriously. As it is, it’s a middle for my top choice for a girl, but I still miss having [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]/[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Nell[/name_f] on my list! :frowning:
[name_f]Azalea[/name_f] - I like it a lot, and love the nn [name_f]Zelie[/name_f]/[name_m]Zaley[/name_m], but I like the similar [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] more.
[name_f]Isaline[/name_f] - I quite like it, actually. My best friend named one of her girls Ysaline, nn Ysa, and I find that I like that much more. [name_f]Isaline[/name_f] seems to take out all the spunk and character in Ysaline. She has always said it EE-sah-leen, but she’s from [name_f]France[/name_f]. I quite like it, but I do prefer [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] or Ysaline.
[name_f]Asia[/name_f] - I’m not opposed to place names, but all the Asias I know have come from really downmarket families. It’s a nice name, and I want to like it, but I just can’t get into it. In middle school, one of my classmates ADORED it (spelled [name_u]Aja[/name_u] though? [name_f]Ajia[/name_f]?), and I thought it was amazing, and I still can sort of appreciate [name_u]Aja[/name_u] (crazy as the spelling is, haha), but I just wouldn’t do it, personally. It seems more like a GP than anything.
[name_f]Isis[/name_f] - meh. I like [name_f]Iris[/name_f] much better. It has always seemed so harsh to me.
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] - I want to like it, and it is nice–I just prefer [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f], or even just [name_f]Magda[/name_f]. I adore [name_f]Magda[/name_f].
[name_f]Portia[/name_f] - [name_f]LOVE[/name_f]! omgoodness, I love [name_f]Portia[/name_f] so much. I knew a family with two kids, [name_m]Cole[/name_m] and [name_f]Portia[/name_f], when I was in elementary school, and I thought they were so adorable. I’ve loved [name_f]Portia[/name_f] ever since. Too bad the real world doesn’t seem to appreciate it. She never seemed to get any comments, and I think it’s so lovely, but I’m just afraid it wouldn’t be received well. “Like the car? Oh, is she portly? Doesn’t [name_f]Portia[/name_f] mean “pig”?” le sigh. I love it so much, though!

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]-- this one doesn’t do it for me but I have no idea why I don’t like it…
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]-- I think [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u] popularity has ruined this name for me. Also, it seems kind of “90s” to me…
[name_f]Raphaela[/name_f]-- also doesn’t do it for me.
[name_f]Tavia[/name_f] (is this tahv-yah or tay-vee-uh?)-- I pronounce it [name_u]Tay[/name_u]-vee-uh, but I don’t really like it. It kind of seems made up.
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]-- Beautiful, love this.
[name_f]Azalea[/name_f]-- probably too out of the box for me to use personally, but I love it.
[name_f]Isaline[/name_f] (iz-ah-leen)-- unique and pretty! I’m a fan of this one.
[name_f]Asia[/name_f] (I know people see this as tacky and I get that, because usually I dislike place names but I genuinely think this is REALLY pretty. It’s so warm and has a beautiful dark curly hair image)-- I totally agree with you on this name. I think it is beautiful and all the women I’ve ever seen or known with this name are stunning, so that makes the name even more beautiful for me.
[name_f]Isis[/name_f]-- don’t love
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] (-lene endings are so aesthetically gorgeous for some reason)-- very pretty name
[name_f]Portia[/name_f]-- no, don’t love…

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]- dislike for personal reasons, but on its face, it’s okay.
[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]- meh. not a real fan. kind of 80s to me.
[name_f]Raphaela[/name_f]- nms. I’ve never been a fan of feminizations.
[name_f]Tavia[/name_f]- not a fan
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]- kind of dig it
[name_f]Azalea[/name_f]- really pretty
[name_f]Isaline[/name_f]- not a fan
[name_f]Asia[/name_f]- I’ve known several girls with this name and although it’s nms, I’ve always thought of it as kind of pretty
[name_f]Isis[/name_f]- dislike for personal reasons
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]- I prefer it pronounced [name_f]Magdelyn[/name_f] (but spelled [name_f]Magdelene[/name_f]) or Magdelena. I think it’s lovely.
[name_f]Portia[/name_f]- torn. half the time I think it sounds like the car and half the time I think it sounds beautiful and exotic.

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]- I have a really hard time picturing a toddler answering to this name… It seems fit for someone older, but not for a child.

[name_u]Brooke[/name_u]- I know a few people with this name, I think it’s pretty, it’s just not my personal style.

[name_f]Raphaela[/name_f]- definitely not my style at all, it just doesn’t sound appealing to me.

[name_f]Tavia[/name_f]- I’ve never heard this name before! It’s really pretty; I would pronounce Tahv-iya

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]- Brings the princess to mind  I like as a middle, but I think it’s a bit much for a first name.

[name_f]Azalea[/name_f] - exotic, but not too out there. I like this one!

[name_f]Isaline[/name_f]- not my personal style, I wouldn’t choose it

[name_f]Asia[/name_f] - I think that this name is pretty, but it could only work on someone with a darker skin tone- I just have a hard time picturing a fair girl with the name “asia”

[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]- I agree: the -lene is really gorgeous! However, I’m not a fan of the -gd- sound
[name_f]Portia[/name_f]- sounds like an heiress to me, but the -ia ending is pretty
