"Old" girls names

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I am thinking of a few names that will work in both [name_m]German[/name_m] and [name_m]French[/name_m], however I have a feeling that they will be thought of as “old.” The ones we have so far are that aren’t seemingly common are: [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] & [name_f]Sabine[/name_f], and my mother suggested [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] as well. [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] obviously makes me think of [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] [name_m]Dietrich[/name_m], and I can’t help but think that others will associate the name with the 1920s because of that. It’s not a massive issue, but I was just curious of peoples opinion & whether these might be too “old-fashioned”

I like [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] a lot -it’s light and fresh. [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] is kind of cute too though i prefer [name_f]Marla[/name_f]

For me personally, yes [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] feels a little too outdated, but it’s not necessarily bad? It just means that others may find it a bit unexpected.

I think [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] and [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] would be fine though, I know one of each, both younger than me (under 25) and they seem to get on ok with their names.

It depends on where you live. In the UK, I think [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] is rather dated, but [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] and [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] are fine and not dated.

I agree that [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] and [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] would work really well–and [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] could work as well, especially with a nickname like [name_f]Marly[/name_f] or [name_f]Lena[/name_f] or [name_f]Leni[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] but I think they all work!

I agree that Marlene feels pretty dated. But Sabine feels old-fashioned in a fresh way! And Gabrielle, to me, feels timeless because it never has been super popular at any particular time.

Hmm…
[name_f]Marlene[/name_f] isn’t my style I just think it seems outdated and clunky whereas [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] & [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] feel classic not outdated at all. [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] is definitely my favourite!
