Hello all! [name_m]New[/name_m] berry here and hoping to re-name one of my minor characters, previously named [name_f]Faith[/name_f].
The character is four years old, uses big words she doesn’t understand, is perceptive, sensitive, and loves attention. She has an older half-brother named [name_u]Michael[/name_u] and her parents are working class people. My story is historical fiction, so I need a name that would fit in during the 1930s and I am hoping for something not too modern yet still pretty and girlish. I am opting to drop [name_f]Faith[/name_f] because I feel that it is a pretty symbolic name and my story does not address the concept or idea of faith (in whatever form it may take).
Her surname is [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] (previously [name_m]King[/name_m], before it was changed) and her parents are [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_m]Tommy[/name_m].
Found a nameberry list on 1930s names, if that’s any use
Or here you can find the top 100 names of the decade (at least, I’m guessing, the top names in the US during the 30s, don’t know if it’s an accurate representation of other English-speaking countries)
I’ve cut the list to the top 15, just because 100 is such a long list!
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Betty[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Barbara[/name_f]
[name_f]Patricia[/name_f]
[name_u]Joan[/name_u]
[name_f]Doris[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Shirley[/name_f]
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f]
[name_f]Dolores[/name_f]
[name_u]Jean[/name_u]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
I think [name_f]Betty[/name_f] would be adorable for a little girl. Or [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] nn [name_f]Dot[/name_f], [name_u]Joan[/name_u]/[name_u]Jean[/name_u] nn [name_f]Joanie[/name_f]/[name_f]Jeanie[/name_f].
