Old lady names - Margaret or Harriet? And middles?

Our second daughter is coming any day now and we haven’t settled on a name. We like old-fashioned names and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Margot[/name_f]) and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]) are at the top of our list. We want to honor baby’s grandmother with the middle name, who has the rather challenging name of [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] [name_u]Jan[/name_u] (goes by [name_u]Jan[/name_u]). Our first daughter is named [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and goes by [name_f]Gracie[/name_f]. What would you do?

How about [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f]? I love [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and think it goes well with [name_f]Grace[/name_f], and [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] is a nice name similar to [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] would work well for you!

I prefer [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] ([name_f]Hattie[/name_f]) with [name_f]Gracie[/name_f].
Maybe:
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] ( I like a straight up honour name where possible)
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_u]Hyacinth[/name_u]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_u]Joyce[/name_u]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_u]January[/name_u]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]

Good luck!

I love the suggestion of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]! I think [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] are both great! I slightly prefer [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] though (I have a little cousin named [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and she’s the cutest!).

Margaret [name_f]Thea[/name_f] or [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Thea[/name_f] maybe?
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]?
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] or [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]?
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Juno[/name_f] or [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Juno[/name_f]?

I like both! I think [name_f]Jane[/name_f] would work as a honor name! And [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], or maybe try [name_f]Jane[/name_f] as a first name? [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is adorable!

Those names are on my list too! I think I vote [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]/Hattie since it feels a little more down to earth than [name_f]Margot[/name_f]. For middles I like the suggestions of [name_u]January[/name_u] and [name_u]Hyacinth[/name_u] if you want to be adventurous, but [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] works too. It will probably be back in style in a few years. Is the grandmother’s maiden name usable as a middle name?

Oooo I prefer [name_f]Margot[/name_f] to [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] but [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] over [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] works well with both!

Harriet Jane would be darling, and so perfect with your older daughter’s name! I love Margaret, too, but I am liking Hattie more with Gracie.

I love [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]! [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] is super cute too!! The combo I have in my list (irrelevant but I’m proud) is [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]. Are you open to name variations?

Margaret [name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Siobhan[/name_f] (Irish version of [name_u]Jan[/name_u])

Harriet [name_f]Diana[/name_f] ([name_m]Roman[/name_m] mythological equivalent of [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f])
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] ([name_u]Jan[/name_u]->[name_f]Jen[/name_f]->[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f])
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Hanna[/name_f] (Nordic version of [name_u]Jan[/name_u])

Most of these are at least a bit of a stretch, but there is relation to the name

Harriet [name_u]Jan[/name_u]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_u]Jan[/name_u]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] or [name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] reminds me of 22 Jump [name_f]Street[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]!
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f]? There’s a mythological link between [name_f]Diana[/name_f] and [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] ([name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] is an epithet of the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] moon goddess [name_f]Diana[/name_f]), so it’s a sweet but creative way to honour her, and I think it fits your style!

You could use [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or [name_f]Thea[/name_f] (like the ‘thia’ in [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f]) or both!

Like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]

(edit: just saw that was suggested above so i second it!)

I love [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_u]Jan[/name_u]!

I love [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], although I’d swoon for sisters [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f].
Honestly, I’d just use [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] or [name_u]Jan[/name_u]. [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] is quite nice with [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], and [name_u]Jan[/name_u] is fine. I think changing [name_u]Jan[/name_u] to [name_f]Jane[/name_f] makes it unrecognizable as an honor name, but that’s just my opinion.

I adore [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] nn [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]!
Maybe [name_f]Thea[/name_f] as a middle name to honor [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] [name_u]Jan[/name_u]? Or any variant of [name_u]Jan[/name_u] like [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_u]Jean[/name_u], [name_u]Joan[/name_u], [name_f]Joanne[/name_f], [name_f]Joanna[/name_f], [name_f]Johanna[/name_f], [name_f]Janna[/name_f], [name_f]Janina[/name_f], [name_f]Ivana[/name_f], etc.

[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Thea[/name_f] or [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] would be lovely!

Both are super sweet and I personally prefer [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] nn [name_f]Margot[/name_f] but I think [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] ([name_f]Hattie[/name_f] and [name_f]Gracie[/name_f]) sound better together. I really like [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] or [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]!

I love [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and would choose that, but [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]/Hattie is nice too. I would just go for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_u]Jan[/name_u] or [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_u]Jan[/name_u] because I tend to go for honor names that are as close as possible to the person’s real name, especially if they’re in the middle spot. Your older daughter’s name is beautiful!
