Old names that are unusable today

I can’t see [name_f]Hortense[/name_f], [name_f]Dorcas[/name_f], [name_u]Gay[/name_u], [name_m]Gaylord[/name_m], [name_m]Dick[/name_m], [name_f]Fanny[/name_f], or [name_m]Adolf[/name_m] coming back at all.

A couple of these names I really like on here. I can definitely see [name_f]Beulah[/name_f] coming back. It sounds kind of new, like “[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]”. I can also see just about all the names on here that I didn’t mention coming back. I actually love most of them.

I know a [name_f]Hortense[/name_f]. She’s about 20 and working in fashion design. I never actually thought twice about her name! I think some people can pull off any name.
I would agree that [name_m]Dick[/name_m], [name_f]Fanny[/name_f], [name_m]Gaylord[/name_m] etc couldn’t be used today though.

I know [name_f]Fanny[/name_f] could never work in the UK but I actually know two little [name_f]Fanny[/name_f]/Fannies in the US, so I could see it making a comeback along with the other vintage nicknames like [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] & [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]

I would add to [name_m]Dick[/name_m], [name_m]Gaylord[/name_m], [name_f]Dorcas[/name_f] & [name_m]Adolf[/name_m]…[name_f]Nannie[/name_f], [name_f]Olga[/name_f], [name_f]Bertha[/name_f], [name_m]Herbert[/name_m], [name_m]Elmer[/name_m], [name_m]Chester[/name_m], [name_m]Lester[/name_m], [name_m]Herman[/name_m]

Yeah, all these unfashionable names could be fashionable. Now you guys understand why your grandparents/parents cringe and cry old lady or old man name when you tell them of the loveliness of [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] or [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] or [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]! I’m betting that in 10 years some of you will be changing your minds about [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f], [name_f]Myrtle[/name_f], [name_f]Mildred[/name_f], [name_f]Velma[/name_f], [name_f]Norma[/name_f], [name_f]Edna[/name_f], [name_f]Erma[/name_f], [name_m]Mervin[/name_m].

The ones I agree on have a reason other than being unfashionable that people will avoid them. So names like [name_m]Gaylord[/name_m], [name_m]Adolf[/name_m], [name_f]Fanny[/name_f], and probably [name_f]Bertha[/name_f] too, due to it’s being used to indicate something large.

[name_f]Helga[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m]…ew. I doubt it will ever be in style again.
