We recently found out we are expecting in [name_u]August[/name_u]! As a long time name lover, I can’t wait to pick out the perfect name.
Here is my question for you: I love old school names for girls, like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. I’m worried, however, that these are too in style. I am kind of concerned that this trend will date my child, similar to [name_f]Deborah[/name_f]/[name_f]Janice[/name_f] or [name_u]Aidan[/name_u]/[name_f]Ava[/name_f] being from a particular generation. What do you all think?
Congratulations and best wishes! I don’t think you have to worry too much about names that are classic and timeless being pegged as trendy-- they tend to stand the test of time better than others.
First of all, congratulations! I wish you a healthy pregnancy and baby!
Anyhow, while it does seem to be a bit on trend to use ‘old names’, I don’t think it would date your child at all. A lot of the names (oh, like [name_m]Franklin[/name_m], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], and [name_m]Clyde[/name_m], plus the ones you listed) have long-established use, over generations. They went out of style and are now being used again, but I don’t see someone saying “Oh, [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]! She must have been a 2017 baby!”. Additionally, there are such a diverse collection of names being used nowadays ([name_m]Arrow[/name_m], [name_m]Fox[/name_m], [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]) that I just don’t think it would be that obvious.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] to add further agreement with PPs. [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] for sure are timeless. Mostly there are people of different ages 16→ 60 with the names. They have been more ‘on trend’ at some period but it is long passed and the names have remained as classics.
