Old Testament Names

My sister has two sons and just found out she is having another boy! Her boys are [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] and [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], and she loves Old Testament names, as you can see. Her top two contenders for this baby are [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] and [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m] (with [name_m]Zeke[/name_m] and Bodie as possibly but not daily nicknames). I’ve thrown out [name_m]Abraham[/name_m], but it’s probably not even a distant third! All the middles are family names, so they don’t matter at this point. What do you guys think? Which name should she go with?

I really like [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m]! I think [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] would also go nicely here.

I definitely prefer [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] to [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m]–though Bodie is a cute nn! I actually know two boys named [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] who go by [name_m]Zeke[/name_m] (one an infant and the other around 9)

I love [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]!

I don’t know if she’s looking for other options, but I love OT names as well, so here’s a few!
[name_m]Asher[/name_m]
[name_m]Phineas[/name_m]
[name_m]Ephraim[/name_m] - I think this is a great fit with [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] and [name_m]Malachi[/name_m]
[name_m]Josiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]

I love [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] with [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] and [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] : ) Here are some more:

[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_m]Zebedee[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m]

I love [name_m]Zeke[/name_m]! My favs would be:

[name_m]Adam[/name_m]
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
[name_m]David[/name_m]

My favorite bible names (and top contenders on our list) are [name_m]Malachi[/name_m], [name_m]Leviticus[/name_m], [name_m]Titus[/name_m] and [name_m]Zedekiah[/name_m].

I think [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] is the best of her two choices, although I love [name_m]Obediah[/name_m].

Here is some more great choices from the Old Testament! I highly suggest [name_m]Zedekiah[/name_m] nn [name_m]Zed[/name_m] or [name_u]Kai[/name_u]/[name_m]Ky[/name_m], [name_m]Leviticus[/name_m] nn [name_m]Levi[/name_m] and [name_m]Enoch[/name_m] with the sibset!
[name_m]David[/name_m], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_m]Amos[/name_m], [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], [name_u]Ira[/name_u], [name_m]Josiah[/name_m], [name_m]Enoch[/name_m], [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m], [name_m]Lemuel[/name_m], [name_m]Ishmael[/name_m], [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m] nn [name_u]Cai[/name_u]/[name_m]Ky[/name_m], [name_m]Saul[/name_m], [name_u]Seth[/name_u], [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], Exodus, [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m], [name_m]Joel[/name_m], [name_m]Boaz[/name_m] nn [name_m]Bo[/name_m]/[name_m]Beau[/name_m] , [name_m]Samson[/name_m], Lot, [name_m]Jethro[/name_m] nn [name_u]Jet[/name_u], [name_m]Leviticus[/name_m], [name_m]Zedekiah[/name_m], [name_u]Micah[/name_u], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m], [name_m]Job[/name_m], [name_m]Zechariah[/name_m].

[name_m]Zephaniah[/name_m] will give the nn [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]

I think that [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] is handsome, strong and wearable. It gets my vote for sure.

Also, if you like [name_m]Zeke[/name_m], you might also like [name_m]Zeb[/name_m] ([name_m]Zebadiah[/name_m]).

I like [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] best of her two choices. It goes quite nicely with her sibset too, and the nn [name_m]Zeke[/name_m] is super cute.

Other OT choices: [name_m]Jethro[/name_m], [name_m]Simeon[/name_m], [name_m]Jamin[/name_m], [name_m]Joel[/name_m]

[name_m]Malachi[/name_m] and [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] are gorgeous and I adore them. [name_m]Both[/name_m] are on my own list.

[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] is my preference of her current two options, definitely. [name_m]Zeke[/name_m] itself is quite cool as a NN whether gotten to via [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] or [name_m]Hezekiah[/name_m].

With an -i ending an an -n ending I’d be inclined to look for a third ending sound for balance. I think she’s on the right track there.

The -ahs - [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], [name_m]Joshua[/name_m], [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m], [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_m]Hezekiah[/name_m], [name_m]Josiah[/name_m].
The -els and -als - [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m], [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], [name_m]Jubal[/name_m], [name_m]Joel[/name_m].
The -s sound - [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_m]Zacharias[/name_m], [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], [name_m]Phineas[/name_m].
Hard c/k endings - [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], [name_m]Barak[/name_m], Shadrach.

Can’t find a good place to pop in with [name_u]Jesse[/name_u], [name_m]Zebulon[/name_m], or [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m], so I’ll just leave them here.

I like the idea of keeping a 3 syllable rhythm, but I don’t want to tie anyone to a theme that feels like a burden. So some of the names I’ve got here work with that and some of them don’t.

Absolutely love OT names, so many great suggestions here. I would use [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m] if I could. Out of the two I like [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m] best, Bodie is so cute. I also adore [name_m]Ishmael[/name_m].

I much prefer [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m]! I’ve never really been a fan of [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m] but I love [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] so much. I also think it goes best with [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] and [name_m]Gideon[/name_m].

[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] (too popular?)
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & [name_m]Lemuel[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & [name_u]Azariah[/name_u]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & [name_m]Barzillai[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & [name_m]Hiram[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & [name_m]Joel[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & [name_m]Joshua[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & [name_m]Naaman[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & [name_m]Phineas[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & Shechem
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & [name_m]Uriah[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & [name_m]Solomon[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & [name_m]Eliezer[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & [name_m]Simeon[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachy[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], & [name_m]Reuben[/name_m]

Of her choices, I would pick Ezekiel.
I know a sib-set of Gideon and Titus. (Not sure if Titus is actually OT but I am pretty sure it’s Biblical? and I think it’s a nice fit with Gideon) … I also really like Ezra and Josiah.

I’ll echo the others and say [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] ([name_m]Zeke[/name_m]) is the better pick. A previous poster suggested [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], which I think would be another wonderful choice if she’s open to it.

Thanks all! I’ll be sharing your thoughts with my sister.
