Old vintage names

I have a daughter named [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and son named [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. I love “old people” names that stand alone. I don’t like nicknames. I would like opinions on names from our list since I haven’t found anything I really love. Also any other name suggestions would be great.

Juliet- I like this name, sounds elegant and goes with my other children’s names. But I struggle to get over [name_u]Julie[/name_u]. I really don’t like that name.

Bonnie- it gives me [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] vibes but is it too weird? I also think of [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] from TVD, I wasn’t a fan.

Colette- I feel like it’s too [name_u]French[/name_u].

Eloise- kind of a tongue twister to say and too popular

Lucy- too popular

Josie- Husband likes this one. I do not.

Alice- too popular

As you can see, I’m picky. I want to find a name I just LOVE. I knew before I was pregnant with my first daughter that I would name her [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]. I love it. But I’m struggling finding that love for a name

I love your style! I also love old vintage names!

[name_f]My[/name_f] fav from your list is [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], which I’ve also been digging lately. I agree about not like [name_u]Julie[/name_u] as a nickname, but an alternative could be [name_u]Jules[/name_u], if you like that!

Some similar sounding suggestions:
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - this could also allow your DH to use [name_u]Josie[/name_u] as a pet name
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] - has the “lou” sound from [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] - Has the “el” and “ise” sound from [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f]/Lina - has some of the sounds from some of the names you listed

Other vintage suggestions:
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Betty[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]/Dorothea
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]

Seconding:
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] - my DD’s name and we get loads of compliments
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]

I think all of these are lovely options. [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] is particularly adorable, and I really like it with [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]! But, if you are not really in love with any of them, I think it would be better to start fresh.

Mabel and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] are perfect sweet-spot names, imho – vintage, but current; familiar, but not too common; cozy and homey, like a little [name_f]English[/name_f] cottage.

Suggestions:
Like [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], and [name_f]Colette[/name_f]…

Love your style!

Agree :100: on [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_u]Julie[/name_u]… it deterred me as well but I do love [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]

I like [name_u]Louise[/name_u] as an alternative to [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]/Eloise

I also really like [name_u]Josie[/name_u] as a nn for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]!!

Of your picks- [name_f]Colette[/name_f] is my favorite. Familiar, vintage but not overused. And I don’t think it’s “too [name_u]French[/name_u]”

Vivian comes to mind as a good option that would fit with your sib-set.

Bonnie is not vintage enough as your other picks imo… I feel like I have a lot of friends’ mothers who are named this (so they’d be in late 50s-early 60s).

Good luck! Lots of good choices

I don’t think [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] is too weird at all. I don’t know what TVD is, but I personally have no negative associations with the name. Looking at your list and your notes this seems like the strongest current contender.

If [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is too popular and a little tricky, what about:
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Eileen[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] (while [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] could be a concern, the majority of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] I’ve met are just [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], so I don’t think in the current name landscape that people would necessarily shorten [name_f]Lucille[/name_f].)
[name_f]Lois[/name_f]

I second the suggestion of [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] (or [name_f]Ines[/name_f]/ [name_f]Inez[/name_f]) it’s lovely with [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and not likely to get the nickname treatment.

Some lesser used vintage names that may work for you:
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] (currently ranked at #934 on the social security charts)

Hi there.

Mabel & [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] are so darling.

Here are my thoughts on your list for a little sister:

Juliet-It’s lovely. Old fashioned, elegant, cheerful & nice w/Mabel & [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. I’d say that if you were okay w/Julie, go for it. But if you actively dislike [name_u]Julie[/name_u], maybe it’s not worth the risk.

Bonnie-It totally fits w/Mabel & is also very nick-name proof. I don’t think that it’s weird. It doesn’t do much for me, but I can’t pinpoint why. I think that it just reminds me of a bonnett.

Colette-It is very [name_u]French[/name_u], but so pretty. It’s old fashioned & doesn’t have too many obvious nick-names. It’s not terribly popular, but recognizable.

Eloise-It’s so sweet & probably my favorite from your list. I think that it goes great w/your crew as well. It’s not at all popular in my area, but ‘[name_f]El[/name_f]’ names in general kind of are.

Lucy-Absolutely adorable, but yeah, kind of popular.

Josie-I’m not big on this one either, although I love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].

Alice-Yes, I hear this one a ton in my area. Very pretty though.

Sorry for any repeats, but how do you feel about…
