Olive and Auden?

Are these names too close to be two main characters? They have such a similar sound and feel to them, and I think they go together quite well, but I don’t know if they just sound too alike.

I like them together and separated as well.
As a sibset or a couple [name]Olive[/name] and [name]Auden[/name] are fine, but I wouldn’t name best friends/enemies these names because they have the same feel.

Yay! It’s interesting that you mention how they have the same feel. It’s not something that comes up much.

On a slight sidenote, what kind of character would you see as [name]Auden[/name]? I have something of an image and personality, but nothing too concrete; at least not as concrete as [name]Olive[/name].

I can see [name]Auden[/name] on a confident, a bit talkative guy who likes attention but isn’t cocky. He is kinda guy who attracts attention with his witty jokes and smart remarks but not with rudeness.
And [name]Olive[/name] for me is a creative funny girl who is a bit shy but can get over it.

I’m with @mclevine on the names, and I picture [name]Auden[/name] as a smart, brave, clever, loyal, trustworthy and determined guy that is also a daredevil, and arrogant but is also caring and a ladies man. I also see him being excellent w/ technology. Yeah, I’ll admit it. I see him like the [name]Marvel[/name] Comics character [name]Tony[/name] Stark.
As for [name]Olive[/name], I can see her as the smart, clever, creative, determined, brave, reliable, trustworthy, persuasive, creative, girl that’s a good friend, and will always help out in sticky situations, and I picture those two as a couple as well as best friends.

Thanks guys! : )

@celianne: no problem. What’s your image for the characters?

[name]Olive[/name] is a small, quiet, odd girl. She’s paranoid and has some strange family/living situation (which I haven’t figured out yet). She’s a tomboy and goes by [name]Ollie[/name] whenever she can.

[name]Auden[/name]… I don’t know, I see him as a fairly normal, average-sized, teenage boy. About the same age as [name]Olive[/name]. He’s a good kid, doesn’t get into trouble, is kind of the odd-one-out with his friends, always on the fringes. [name]Brown[/name] hair, heart-shaped face, very pale. Good-looking but not the type you’d remember or pick out of a crowd.

I was considering throwing some kind of paranormal something or other into it, but I’m undecided.

Nope. I originally thought [name]Auden[/name] was a girl and then I was like “Wait a minute…”
For me, [name]Auden[/name] is a jock. The slicked back hair, football star kind. He’s cocky and smart and if any of you have seen NCIS, he’s exactly like [name]Tony[/name] Donozzo (sorry if i spelled that wrong)
[name]Olive[/name] is incredibly smart but doesn’t like to draw attention to herself. She plays the violin and an excellent painter.

I vote no on the paranormal setting.

@yolo: I watch NCIS! Did you see the scene where Dinozzo and [name]Ziva[/name] got hit? I did. Oh my gosh! I hope they’re okay!

Yeah, [name]Auden[/name] is rather feminine. But it would be a somewhat masculine girl’s name. So I consider it fairly unisex.

And not necessarily a paranormal setting, but paranormal aspects.

@celianne: I’m fine with paranormal aspects.

I’m glad you approve!

@celianne: no prob. It sounds interesting. Go for it!

@celianne: how far are you on your story, and have you run into other naming problems? If so, I can help you out.

I haven’t started, it was more of an errant thought than an actual project.
