[name]Do[/name] you think [name]Olive[/name] is going to start shooting up the charts, now that [name]Drew[/name] Barrymore used it?
I’ve been falling for sweet, vintage [name]Olive[/name] for a while now, and was seriously leaning close to swapping [name]Olivia[/name] for [name]Olive[/name] on my list when I saw that [name]Drew[/name] Barrymore chose [name]Olive[/name] for her daughter. I have no problem with popular names (as I’m sure you can tell in my signature!), but when I discover a name before it shoots up the charts, it feels different. Like it’s not as special as it once was, if that makes sense. Which is why I doubt [name]Eliza[/name] will ever go back on my list. [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Olive[/name] is heading for superstardom?
There will likely be lots more Olives than Tennessees or Suris. That’s because it’s a name already on the fringe of popularity, which shares a great deal with the #2 name in [name]America[/name], and a celebrity endorsement could push it over to “[name]Ava[/name]” territory.
I could easily see [name]Olive[/name] crawl up the charts, perhaps even replacing [name]Olivia[/name] in popularity. (much later down the line, seeing how [name]Olivia[/name] is dangerously close to replacing [name]Isabella[/name] for #1 name) I anticipate that [name]Olivia[/name] will easily become #1 in the next few years, then after it’s been #1 for another few years, [name]Olive[/name] will spike in popularity. In the meantime, it could be steadily rising.
I think [name]Olive[/name] will climb as a quirkier choice for [name]Olivia[/name] lovers that fear popularity.
But if you love it use it! Personally I like [name]Olivia[/name] more cause of the food & color being unnapealing to me. But I like the olive branch imagery that doesn’t come through as strong with [name]Olivia[/name].
I also adore [name]Olive[/name]! I agree with what has been said. I do think that [name]Olive[/name] will become more popular. I think it really started when [name]Isla[/name] [name]Fisher[/name] and [name]Sasha[/name] [name]Baron[/name] [name]Cohen[/name] used it, and more so now that [name]Drew[/name] used it because she of course is more popular than [name]Isla[/name] and [name]Sasha[/name].
While it’s going to become more popular, I don’t think it’s headed for superstardom. [name]Olive[/name] will definitely have more attention now that [name]Drew[/name] used it (and not just as an alternative to [name]Olivia[/name]) but I doubt it’ll even reach top 100 status anytime soon. [name]Ava[/name] became very popular after [name]Reese[/name] Witherspoon using it, but I can’t see the same thing happening for [name]Olive[/name].
I think [name]Olive[/name] is never going to be nearly as popular as [name]Olivia[/name], or most of the names on your signature list for that matter. It might be like [name]Eve[/name], another one in your signature, which I still think of as separate and different than [name]Ava[/name] and [name]Eva[/name] though still in the same family of names. [name]Olive[/name] doesn’t have the vowel ending that is so popular right now. As a color it’s drab and not feminine, and it’s not like it’s a sweet-smelling flower or sweet happy fruit - it’s a salty oily nugget of vegetable meatiness. I like olives and I like the name [name]Olive[/name] a lot (loved it in [name]Little[/name] Miss [name]Sunshine[/name]). I think it might get to the 300s or 200s in popularity, maybe the 100s, but it’s not going into the top 100. That’s my guess.
I seem to forget that most people associate it with olives, and the color olive, haha–to me it’s sweet and vintage and I like several Biblical associations with it, and yes, I do see it as very pretty and sweet, although I know not everyone does. TBH, I don’t even think of olives. (Is that weird?!)
I’m still not sure I’m going to swap [name]Olivia[/name] for it (I love the [name]Shakespeare[/name] connection, and I just love saying [name]Olivia[/name]! Besides, an [name]Olivia[/name] could go by [name]Olive[/name]…), but what you all are saying has been very reassuring. Then again, [name]Eliza[/name]'s not much more popular than [name]Olive[/name], and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t use that. Then again, I have loved that since I was a little girl and didn’t even know there was a SSA list for it to be off of.
I also think it will raise in popularity. Who knows how high it will go. I don’t think a lot of people even considered it before this moment, and now that a celebrity has used it they may use it as a spunkier alternative to [name]Olivia[/name]. I see it going in the 200’s or the 100’s within the next 5 or so years, but I could be wrong. It is always fun to predict if a name will go popular because of a celebrity.
What is little [name]Olive[/name]'s middle name? I’m a little bit disappointed…I was expecting a more out there name from [name]Drew[/name]…this name will rise I think…also there is a character on disney channel with this name…so it is defintly main stream…I agree…boo
as with that, I too was expecting a little something more from [name]Drew[/name]! But, I think its cute. Especially, now that she has a vineyard with grapes and olives. That child will have a wonderful place to roam and run around! And, Im still not a fan of the mothers maiden name as a middle name; sorry if that offends :???: But, I think a child deserved their own unique, personal name (apart from their parents, except last name of course!)
[name]Olive[/name] is Adorable! This name has been on my long list of favorites for a long time.
And just because [name]Drew[/name] Barrymore used [name]Olive[/name], doesn’t mean you can’t use it as well.
I’ve been considering using [name]Olive[/name] for a while.
Yeah, I can see it spiking more. I don’t think it’ll hit [name]Ava[/name] status, or even [name]Olivia[/name] status, but I can see it rising a bit more.
I mean, [name]Seraphina[/name] hasn’t even touched the 1000 yet, and it’s been years since she was named. Same with [name]Suri[/name].
[name]Vivienne[/name] and [name]Ava[/name] jumped, but they’re more…tangible for the average person. Celebrites can get away with all sorts of names, but average people are less likely to follow suit if they think the name is too “Celebrity”.
So glad you started this thread, I was wondering the same thing! We’re deciding between [name]Olive[/name] and another name for our DD due next month and when I saw [name]Drew[/name] Barrymore went with [name]Olive[/name], I’m was worried that will shoot it up the charts really fast!
I don’t think of olives with the name, either, though I know most people do. I think of the olive branch and other lovely symbolism associated with the name…
Loooooove [name]Olive[/name]! It’s on our list. I’m actually happy to see it used. Maybe it’ll become more “acceptable” to people irl, because I get a lot of flack for considering it, lol.
