We are due 7th [name_u]December[/name_u] with a little girl (last baby). We have a 2.5 yo boy [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]. I thought we had settled on [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] but then tonight my husband suggested [name_f]Olive[/name_f] (which I love but I’m pretty sure I suggested ages ago and he was all blah about it). He loves it and I do too! What do you think? Does it matter that [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] are so extremely popular, is it too similar?
I love [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. I hate olives as in the food, so I was tentative with [name_f]Olive[/name_f], but now I love her. I think [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is completely different to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. The style is the opposite. She’s sweet, charming, gentle, whereas I view [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] as spunky, and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] as boisterous.
I think [name_f]Olive[/name_f] will definitely get mixed up with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] at least a few times in her life. [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is not my style, I don’t like the food, color, or sound, which is ironic because I have a son named [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. That being said, it’s ranked in the 200’s so people are using it and loving it, so I say go for it!
I think [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] is way prettier.
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] is really usable and while it’s not exactly my style I can appreciate it. It has an elegance to it that I find quite charming. It is similar to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] but I don’t think that it’s something to really take into consideration. I find [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] to be exceptionally beautiful also. Good luck deciding!
I much prefer [name_f]Bridget[/name_f].
I think it’s a great name! Spunky and sweet. I think has quite a difference feel to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], and I don’t think their popularity is a reason to discount [name_f]Olive[/name_f].

Choose [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]! I’d do that if I were in your place. It is lovely, romantic, elegant and charming although it is very popular. Still you should use it. [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] is a great nickname.
[name_m]Patrick[/name_m] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] sound great to me together.
And what about [name_f]Brigitta[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Julia[/name_f]? They’d also work well.
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]>>[name_f]Bridget[/name_f], I love [name_f]Olive[/name_f] - the name and the food, don’t worry about popularity
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] are two very different sounding names. [name_m]Say[/name_m] them out loud, and you’ll hear it. [name_m]Even[/name_m] the O’s are pronounced differently. I love [name_f]Olive[/name_f]! I work at a children’s clothing store and I have yet to meet an [name_f]Olive[/name_f] in the over 12 years that I’ve been there. [name_f]Olive[/name_f] goes well with your son’s name, and you said that you remember loving it before. I think it’s time to use it!
I like [name_f]Olive[/name_f] but unfortunately it is quite popular where I live (and generally too popular overall). It’s become a fast riser in my hipster town. What could’ve been fresh and spunky is now just overused and expected frankly.
However, it does not seem to be as popular where you live. I can see [name_f]Olive[/name_f] as bright, but serious child, but also a charming, sophisticated woman. It seems grounded and strong.
Despite all this, I do prefer [name_f]Olive[/name_f] to [name_f]Bridget[/name_f]. Either would work well with [name_m]Patrick[/name_m].
Thanks everyone! It’s a dilemma because we love [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] - but there’s only one in there! I am a teacher and have never met an [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]'s are EVERYWHERE (Western Australia). There’s no way I’d use that. And plus, it’s too ‘pretty’ for me, as most of those ending-in-A names are.
I personally much prefer [name_f]Bridget[/name_f]. [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] and [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] sound great together!
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] are both lovely names. They actually give me a similar vibe, both quirky, lively, and bright. I personally prefer [name_f]Olive[/name_f], but only by a tiny bit.
Congratulations!
Personally, though it is not a bad name, I do think [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is overused, whereas [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is rare, but not unheard of. I like [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] too and it would be nice to see this classic name be used more often. In terms of nicknames, [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] comes with the sweet ‘bridge’ but I’m not really a fan of [name_u]Olly[/name_u]. I think that both names are lovely and while not completely alien, they are both beautifully unique and therefore, lovely choices.
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] is miles better than [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. Sadly, [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is one of my least favorite names. It’s a topping or a coctail garnish. It slimy any green. I don’t see the appeal.
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. No one likes olives. They taste bad and it’s a bad name lol
Haha, thanks for your honesty, ladies!
I think [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is lovely. I don’t like the food either, but I think the name is sweet and a little bit spunky. I prefer it way more than [name_f]Bridget[/name_f]. [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] is fine, the sounds of it just really don’t appeal to me, it feels kind of heavy. I think [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] are different enough that [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]'s popularity shouldn’t deter you from using [name_f]Olive[/name_f].
