Oliver and Oscar? Too close right?

[name]Hi[/name], I’ve posted on here a few times recently and have gotten some really great feedback, so I thought I would throw this out there…
We are expecting our third boy and having a hard time!
Big brothers are [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Miles[/name]. [name]Oscar[/name] is a name that DH and I both love but we ruled it out almost immediately because of the similarity to [name]Oliver[/name] who very often goes by [name]Ollie[/name]… [name]Oscar[/name] could be shortened to [name]Oz[/name] but I don’t see how you could avoid also throwing in [name]Ozzie[/name]. [name]Ollie[/name] and [name]Ozzie[/name]?? On top of that our dog’s name is [name]Otis[/name] and we often shorten to Oti… Clearly we have a thing for O names.
Other names that we are considering are:
[name]Quincy[/name] - my favorite
[name]Hugo[/name] - nameberry community favorite
[name]Sebastian[/name] - A bit of a mouthful with our last name which ends in -man
[name]Leo[/name] - sounds like [name]Ollie[/name] reversed, and my nephew who we spend a lot of time with is [name]Theo[/name]

So what do you think? Is [name]Oscar[/name] a contender or should we cross it off the list?

[name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Oscar[/name] were two near the top of my list at one point, but I ended up dropping one because of the similarity. I don’t think they’re too close in general (not like [name]Baylee[/name] and [name]Kaylee[/name] or anything) but they’re too close for me.
[name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Miles[/name] are perfect together. If helps (?) I feel like [name]Oscar[/name] is a little harsh-sounding in comparison.
[name]Hugo[/name] would be fantastic with your boys’ names, and I love [name]Leo[/name] as well (prefer the LEH-o pronunciation though). [name]Theo[/name], [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Milo[/name] were all near the top of my list at one point, too… and [name]Sebastian[/name]
I think you have solid options here!
I do think [name]Oscar[/name] can be a contender. It’s not really my personal favourite with [name]Miles[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name], and it racks up some added confusion with [name]Otis[/name], but it is a great name.
I’m not sure if you’re taking suggestions or not, but back when [name]Theo[/name] and [name]Milo[/name] were topping my list, I had [name]Malcolm[/name] “[name]Mac[/name]” up there, too. I think [name]Ollie[/name], [name]Miles[/name] & [name]Mac[/name] are awesome together.

Good luck! I really think you have a winner, no matter what you choose.

My favourite from your list is [name]Quincy[/name], as a sibset with [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Miles[/name]. [name]Sebastian[/name] is nice, but I agree, if your last name ends in -man, that seems hard to say. Personally, I’m not crazy about [name]Oscar[/name] with [name]Oliver[/name]. Not only do both start with O, they also both end with the same sound. And seems to put [name]Miles[/name] at a disadvantage, like he’s the odd guy out.

I think [name]Leo[/name] is perfect wih [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Miles[/name]!! [name]Oscar[/name] is way too close. Plus, it always has the grouch/oscar meyer connotation for me.

I think they’re too close. They just leave poor [name]Miles[/name] all by his lonesome. Also, [name]Miles[/name] & [name]Oliver[/name] are very smooth, whereas [name]Oscar[/name] is gruff. I think boys’ names like [name]Graham[/name], [name]Pierce[/name], [name]Leo[/name], [name]Dorian[/name] and the like are much better matches.

I really did like your suggestion of [name]Quincy[/name]. However, [name]Quentin[/name] might be an even better fit, and a little more “name-like.”

I love both names but I think [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Oscar[/name] are a little close. They both start with an “O” and end in a “R”. Plus your son [name]Miles[/name] might feel left out, especially since your dog even has an ‘O’ name.

[name]Quincy[/name] - Nice name and I think it goes good in your sibset.
[name]Hugo[/name] - This is my favorite as long as [name]Miles[/name] it never called [name]Milo[/name]. [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Miles[/name], and [name]Hugo[/name] are a very cool set of names.
[name]Sebastian[/name] - I wouldn’t use this if it causes problems with your last name.
[name]Leo[/name] - I think [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Theo[/name] could get confusing.

Are you looking for suggestions? [name]How[/name] about…
[name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Finn[/name]
[name]Elias[/name]
[name]Levi[/name]
[name]Julian[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Elliott[/name]
[name]Reed[/name] or [name]Reid[/name]
[name]Nolan[/name]

Thanks for the confirmation! [name]Oscar[/name] is officially off the list.
I really appreciate all of the other feedback as well. You all seem to know exaclty the names I like and I have literally considered each of the suggested names but they have either been rejected by DH or they are way too rhymey with our last name. If it helps at all, last name is Rothman, so while I agree that [name]Quentin[/name] is more “name-like” than [name]Quincy[/name], I just think it doesn’t work with Rothman. Same for so many of the other suggested names that end in “n” ([name]Dorian[/name], [name]Nolan[/name], [name]Julian[/name]). I like the suggestions [name]Malcolm[/name] and [name]Graham[/name], but I have an older cousin [name]Malcolm[/name] that has ruined the name for me, and DH is [name]Bram[/name] so [name]Graham[/name] is out. Other suggestions I love: [name]Isaac[/name], [name]Elias[/name], [name]Levi[/name], [name]Felix[/name], and [name]Elliott[/name] have all been rejected by DH. Sigh.
It looks like for now we are down to [name]Quincy[/name] and [name]Hugo[/name], possibly [name]Leo[/name]. Maybe we’ll just wait to meet him and decide. Thanks again!

[name]Hugo[/name] definitly. My fave boy name! I think the two oscar and oliver are too close. Suggestions not mentioned dexter, angus, jasper and zac. ([name]Hugo[/name], sebastian, felix and leo were also on my list with the ones i just suggested.so we have similar taste)!

What about [name]Viggo[/name], [name]Julian[/name] or [name]Luca[/name]?

I really like [name]Leo[/name]. Other possibilities include

[name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Jonas[/name]
[name]Ernest[/name]

FWIW, I have an [name]Oliver[/name] and an [name]Eli[/name]…I think [name]Levi[/name] would be beautiful as well.

I think [name]Oscar[/name] is too similar to [name]Oliver[/name]. Sorry if you really love it. To be honest, as everyone is calling their child [name]Oscar[/name] these days it is probably a good one to avoid anyway xxxxxxx

I totally agree with evelyns_mom. [name]Miles[/name] may end up feeling like the odd guy out. I say go with a different name altogether.

Ha. just reading the title of your post I was going to suggest [name]Hugo[/name]. I think you have it narrowed down to the best options. Too bad your husband has vetoed [name]Elliot[/name] and [name]Felix[/name]–they would be great too.

You’ve probably been thru every name by now, but some I didn’t see in this thread:
[name]Everett[/name], [name]Gabriel[/name], [name]Xavier[/name], [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Jonah[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Nicholas[/name] (nn [name]Nico[/name]?), [name]Dominic[/name] ([name]Dom[/name]), [name]Vincent[/name].
