So we battled this when naming our first son and I still can’t get over it. We adore the name [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] but our last name is [name_m]Olson[/name_m]. What are your honest opinions of it with our last name? We like [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m], and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. Also, does it work with siblings [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] & [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m]?
I love the name [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] too, but I’m sorry to say that I think your surname is too similar to it.
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Olson[/name_m]…
Though I’m fine with alliterative names, I think that it’s still too much. Plus it doesn’t go with your sib-set either. It’d be much better as a middle name options than a first name.
I think [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] sounds fine with your last name. Sure, both start with [name_m]Ol[/name_m]- but they have different sounds ([name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is ahl- and [name_m]Olson[/name_m] is ol’ [like good ol’ days]).
I don’t care for [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] in your set though. I prefer [name_m]Luka[/name_m], which is the Eastern European spelling of [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and more in line with [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m]. [name_m]Luka[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]?
I love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Olson[/name_m] doesn’t sound too much to me. It has a nice ring to it, personality. If you love it, go for it and don’t worry.
Good luck!
I don’t think the name is too alliterative, but I do think it’s a bit too popular/common compared to the siblings. It sounds like you decided to go with a ‘tamer’ name the third the around, and I really like your other kids’ names and think you can find something that fits with them a little better.
I think it’s okay actually.
I also have an O surname and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is one of my favorite names.
If it really came down to it, I think I’d use it!
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Olson[/name_m] is a great name.
I think [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Olson[/name_m] is a fine name because the [name_m]Ol[/name_m] sounds different in each name. I think it goes well [name_f]Eva[/name_f] & [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m]. I think that it goes especially well with [name_f]Eva[/name_f]. Since [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m] is not as common as [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and [name_f]Eva[/name_f], I would chose [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m]. It is the perfect bridge between [name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] & [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m] [name_m]David[/name_m]. Good luck!
I personally do not think [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] sounds bad with your last name. I love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] but I couldn’t get Dh on board with either.
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Olson[/name_m] isn’t ideal [name_f]IMO[/name_f], workable but I personally wouldn’t do it? [name_m]Olivier[/name_m] [name_m]Olson[/name_m] is a bit better, the O and L at the beginning are said in different syllables in [name_m]Olivier[/name_m] whereas they form one sound in [name_m]Olson[/name_m]. [name_m]Tolliver[/name_m] [name_m]Olson[/name_m] would also work better.
I honestly think it works fine with your surname. You might want to consider that he may be called “[name_u]Ollie[/name_u]” by others though. [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] [name_m]Olson[/name_m] is a bit grating.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] and I think it goes totally fine with your surname! [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Olson[/name_m] sounds pretty cool, actually. I think it goes fine with the sibling names too.
Thank you everyone. I really love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], and am starting to feel more comfortable with [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Olson[/name_m]. I’ve considered [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] [name_m]Olson[/name_m] being a problem and would try to resolve this by having his nickname be [name_m]Lev[/name_m], which I would probably do anyway because I think it’s cute, but also to try to alleviate the [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] problem.
