Oliver

Wondering what you all think of [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] as a brother to [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]? I really love it and it’s been on our list before but the one thing I have a hard time with is that I see ‘liver’ in the name. Otherwise I love the sound and look and feel of the name.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it could work on a laid back beach baby? A toddler, child and adult? [name_m]How[/name_m] do you picture an [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]? Up tight? Chill?

[name_m]How[/name_m] about nicknames beyond [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] and middle names?

I love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]! I really didn’t even think of the liver thing until you pointed it out. Liver has the stress on the first syllable which gives it a different sound than [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] for sure, so I don’t think it’s an issue (unless you REALLY can’t get over it). [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is playful to me. Sweet, adventurous, relatable. Totally usable on any boy and a handsome name for a man! I think [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] and [name_u]Jem[/name_u] are adorable together. Using the names in your signature I really like [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u].

[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]'s always been popular in the UK (I went to school with about a million Ollies) so it just seems like a very everyday guy kind of name to me. It’s handsome, though - I like it a lot. I think it is timeless and works on any age/personality. I get the ‘liver’ thing but I’ve never really thought about it myself.

Is there any reason you don’t like just [name_u]Ollie[/name_u]/Oli? I don’t think any other short version is really used.

[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: Wow, I just looked it up and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is number 1 for [name_f]England[/name_f] and [name_m]Wales[/name_m] now! I didn’t know that.

Nope, [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] is cute! [name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering if anyone had other ideas!

We are in the U.S., so it is popular but not THAT popular. I actually have never personally met an [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] or known any in school.

Anyone else?

I prefer [name_m]Olivier[/name_m], but [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]'s not terrible…it shows up in my family tree with some frequency. I tend to use it for hungry stray cats (they always want more food).
