What’s everyone experience with [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] as full first name? Is it always assumed to be a nickname? Not carry to adulthood well? I wonder if what country you are in matters as well.
[name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_m]Olle[/name_m], [name_u]Olly[/name_u]. Idk which spelling is more common
I’m in the UK - [name_u]England[/name_u], specifically - and I know an [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] as full name and various Olivers who go by Oli/Olly etc. I really love ‘just’ [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] and it certainly works here as a full name without much of a bat of an eyelid.
I’ve known a just [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] and several Olivers who’ve used it exclusively. When introduced as such, no one called them anything but [name_u]Ollie[/name_u]
I’m in [name_u]America[/name_u] and find it has a distinctly [name_f]British[/name_f] feel as a full first name. I think it kind of sounds like the popular 60s “nicknames as full names” trend with [name_u]Danny[/name_u], [name_u]Johnny[/name_u], [name_m]Kenny[/name_m], [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m], etc. and while a bit nickname-y, they can all work as full first names.
I know two Ollies, and their names are short for [name_m]Olivier[/name_m] (which I love) and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] (lovely classic)! However, I really don’t think any nickname name needs a full form to work. [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] is just as substantial as anything else, to me! If you’d only ever want to call him [name_u]Ollie[/name_u], I say go for [name_u]Ollie[/name_u]. I’m in the US.
