PS. For anyone wondering about the middles - [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is a name we both really loved, and [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] is my hubby’s maternal grandmother. It’s not a name I’d go for on my own, but she is a wonderful lady and we wanted to honour her, so please no negative comments about “old stuffy name” - it’s sentimental.
I find the repeated Y from [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] mildly unsettling, so I much prefer [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] for your combos, although in general I tend to like both names relatively equally.
If it were me, I would also go with [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. Although I usually don’t like double ia endings in a row, I find it very aurally pleasing in this particular case.
I really like both so understand your dilemma. I prefer [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] by a pinch, and think it goes slightly better with your middle names.
I think you could use them for siblings. I have seen sibling names that are more similar to these. The problem would be what would you call a 3rd child as a pattern is definitely there… [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]?
I prefer [name_f]Olympia[/name_f].
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] would be my choice. I’ve always liked [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] but I don’t think I could personally use it, it reminds me of my home state’s capitol too much. I find it very beautiful and exotic. Classy.
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] is all right but I don’t like its stronger letter sounds as much.
Thanks. I feel like they would work on siblings, as well, however like you say it does create a pattern… and I think it could be too much to add a third and make a proper pattern of it… hmm. Maybe if we have girls we’ll just have to pick one or other…
I too find the repeated Y of [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] – as well as the -ia endings of both names – irksome when paired with [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f]. Of the two, [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] is less similar to [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] and therefore a better pairing (I’m letting æsthetics get the better of me here; as a rule I prefer [name_f]Olympia[/name_f]). However, [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] would work just as well if, for instance, [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] were changed to [name_f]Thea[/name_f] (or [name_f]Cinzia[/name_f]). As for using them as sibling names, I agree that it creates a pattern. But they remain dissimilar enough sound-wise to be quite suitable for twins, whence a pattern is mercifully avoidable
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] definitely
I love both [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] and [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]. [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] is a much older love I’ve really liked for years, and [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] is a lot more recent. [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] is still top for me, she’s fun, energetic, and excitable, but she has a good deal of feistiness and passion. [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] I fell in love because of her strength and determination; I could easily imagine a warrior or fighter called [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]. Personally I think they’re be too close in sound for siblings although in terms of imagery/personality/feel I think they complement each other perfectly. I just love saying [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] and everything about her, plus she has the long term love status, so I’d choose [name_f]Olympia[/name_f].
Disregarding flow as I think both are slightly awkward (not terrible, by all means!), I do prefer [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] over [name_f]Olympia[/name_f], and the look of [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] throws me off, I chose [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f].
Thanks all! Really appreciate the thoughts!
Regarding the repeated -ia ending, I agree. It does bug me sometimes. However hubby’s mum is [name_f]Celia[/name_f] and his grandmother is [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f]. So we just have to deal. Swapping names wouldn’t change anything. And we would like to use exact names in this case, not just names with the same feel or meaning
