Olympia...

Hey berries,

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] is a usable name??

I have been thinking about it for a while, and it has really grown on me. I love interesting and unique names, and I love the Greekness… but is this one pushing it too much?? Is it too fairy-tale??

What kind MN would you give it??

Thanks, lovelies  xo

[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] is stunning. It falls fourth on my list. My combo is [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. To me, it’s usable because it’s 1) pronounceable (especially since it’s a state capital) 2) resembles the mainstream [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] 3) has a long and fascinating history, given its Greek significance 4) comes with some convenient nicknames - I’ve heard [name_u]Ollie[/name_u], [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_f]Pippa[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Pia[/name_f] and 5) sounds both elegant and lively

I give it two thumbs up! I highly encourage you to add it to your list

I like it! Reminds me of Madame [name_u]Maxime[/name_u], the Beauxbatons headmistress, from the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] series. A cool character, although she is [name_f]Olympe[/name_f]. Not sure what middle name I’d use, but I love the nickname Imp!

Very usable, very beautiful

In addition to the other nicknames mentioned, [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] is another I’d use.

I really love [name_f]Olympia[/name_f], and it’s on my long list. But to answer your question, when I look at the other names on your list like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_u]Harmony[/name_u], [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] and [name_f]Emylynn[/name_f], I think that yes, for you it seems too much. I do like [name_f]Mercedes[/name_f] and [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] in a sibset, though. If you had more bold names like [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f], [name_f]Desdemona[/name_f], [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] or even [name_f]Lucrezia[/name_f] or [name_f]Maxima[/name_f]… then I’d say go for it.

In the middle spot, your choices become even less bold… [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]… I just don’t see [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] fitting as a first name.

You could look at putting it in the middle. I think [name_f]Mercedes[/name_f] [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] would be an amazing name, but extremely bold! [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] is very pretty, as is [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Olympia[/name_f].

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] as well! I know a teenager with this name and have always found it unique and pretty.
From your signature, I like:

[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

It feels like a “softer” middle name as [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] is such a strong sounding first. I wouldn’t pair it with another “big” or “strong” name like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f].

I have to say I didn’t love it before but somehow it’s growing on me… I quite like it at this very second. I think for nicknames, [name_f]Pippa[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f], and [name_f]Opal[/name_f]. I think I would use [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_u]Sydney[/name_u].

[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] is usable. I would give it a strong middle name like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or [name_f]Elena[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Olympia[/name_f]! It’s often been in the running as a sister for [name_f]Pandora[/name_f]. I think it’s energetic, sprightly, and fun, but also exotic, and beautiful. Definitely usable in my opinion, even in the olympic years. It’s such a wonderful name, it’d be a shame to pass it up.

My middles are currently [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Thessaly[/name_f] [name_f]Lark[/name_f], but I’ve also considered:
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] (Had this for a while, but decided two 4 syllable names was a bit too much)
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Clio[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Juno[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Tempest[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_u]Clove[/name_u]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Saffron[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]

I think so, yes. It’s beautiful.

I really like [name_f]Olympia[/name_f], and I’m not usually into the more grand mythological names. It would be very high on my list, except that my daughter’s name happens to be another state capital and that’s not a theme I want to pursue.

Thanks so much for all the thoughts and suggestions, berries! So helpful. I ran [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] past my other last night, and his response was “Oo! Interesting…” which for him is akin to “I like it, we should think about that one” :stuck_out_tongue: So yay for that!

I am feeling stuck when thinking of MNs though… nothing that I have seen, found, or thought of seems to sound right or flow properly… The closest I got to liking a combination was [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], but we already had [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] set aside for use with another name… Maybe something similar to [name_f]Autumn[/name_f]? Something sweet and whimsical…???

I love [name_f]Olympia[/name_f]! It reminds me of good music, [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Piaf[/name_f] and pleasant nights out on town. [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] is a rather common name for concert houses, restaurants and theatres, much like Odeon, I think. I find it dazzling like a black, elegant dress and an elegant shawl above with colorful embroideries and shiny sequins. All very tasteful and artistic. I love it!

I have always really liked the sound of former [name_f]Sen[/name_f]. [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] Snowe’s name (not something I normally think about with senators, but it stood out)… so I think a short middle that’s vaguely nature-like works well. [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] is nice, but I don’t know if it’s good enough to pilfer from another combo. Maybe: [name_f]Fern[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Lark[/name_f], [name_f]Maple[/name_f], [name_f]Jade[/name_f]. Or maybe that starts sounding too much like a species of those things. [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] is so grand that it could pair well with a simple middle, like [name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_u]June[/name_u].
