I honestly love the look and sound of it, but I also liked [name_m]Martin[/name_m] O’[name_f]Malley[/name_f] when he was running for President. That association isn’t such a big deal if you’re not in the US. Also another association would be O’[name_f]Malley[/name_f] the cat from the Aristrocats movie.
I’m in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] so that isn’t an issue for me. [name_u]Love[/name_u] O’[name_f]Malley[/name_f] the alley cat! I also think of O’[name_f]Malley[/name_f] from early [name_u]Grey[/name_u]'s Anatomy but that doesn’t bother me.
I don’t dislike the sound. I just have trouble picturing it as a first name… I’m sure once I met someone with the name it’d feel natural pretty quickly. As of now the only personal association I have is a cat. Named for the cat in aristocats.
This feels a little odd to me, since it feels very established as a surname. Names like [name_u]Collins[/name_u] or [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] fit into the southern US “surnames as given names” trend, and feel more wearable to me, but I"m not sure O’[name_f]Malley[/name_f] fits into that category. I love it as a surname, though, and I think it could grow on me.
To me it seems a bit strange and I have a hard time picturing it as a person’s first name. My background is Irish, and in Irish culture surnames aren’t really used as first names. However, I understand that in other countries (particularly in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u]) Irish surnames seem to be widely as first names.
I really like the name but not as a first. The O part seems odd as a first. Maybe it would be better as a middle.
My immediate first thought was the Aristocats. I dont think it really works as a first name.
Not a fan at all - doesn’t seem like a first name, I don’t see any usable nicknames, and names with apostrophes/hyphens sometimes have issues when being processed through things like SSA and when getting your drivers’ license and such.
I think of [name_m]George[/name_m] O’[name_f]Malley[/name_f] from [name_u]Grey[/name_u]’s Anatomy, which isn’t a big deal for me because he was my favourite character:)
I find first names with an apostrophe in them too much for me personally. O’[name_f]Malley[/name_f] sounds nice though.
