Hey ya’ll, its been awhile since I’ve been active on nb, but I recently discovered we our expecting our 1st and I am trying to combat the crazy anxiety by focusing on the good parts, like the name I’ve been browsing this site on and off for nearly ten years!! So I’m excited to see everyones thoughts through this new journey!
I’m going to kick this off with the boy names since that’s what we’re struggling with the most. The 3 names we agree on are pretty out-there, and while I don’t want a common name, I don’t want everyone to scratch their heads at it either. The names are
[name_m]Odin[/name_m]
Zoro
[name_u]Banks[/name_u]
He likes Zoro the best, I like [name_u]Banks[/name_u] and [name_m]Odin[/name_m].
I also like [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] and [name_m]Octavian[/name_m] but he isn’t sold on either.
So what names come to mind when you hear these? Also worth noting that this name should work in english and spanish.
I have to go back through all my own lists to see if I’m missing some… but really curious what your ideas are!
Congratulations on your first! I am also a recent joiner who has been a stalker of this site for quite some years.
Unsure where you are at but [name_u]Banks[/name_u] has been steadily climbing in popularity over the past few years in the US so it’s possible it will be quite popular coming up so if you want something more unique, Zoro or [name_m]Odin[/name_m] are your best bets.
Zorro, of course, makes me think of the [name_m]Antonio[/name_m] Banderas movies. But it stirs up pictures of adventure, courage, and a heart that’s true!
[name_m]Odin[/name_m], of course, is a name of strength and leadership from the Norse mythos.
Here are a few other names that are unique, strong and adventurous like the two above! (I’ll do my best to pick ones that work in both [name_f]English[/name_f] and Spanish).
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m] (Nickname [name_u]Rafe[/name_u] and it’s outside the top 100)
[name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] (Leo, great name meaning but it is within the top 100 in the US)
[name_u]Vero[/name_u] (Shorter like most of your list and very unique!)
[name_u]Brennan[/name_u] or [name_m]Brennen[/name_m] (the B of [name_u]Banks[/name_u] with much less popularity)
[name_m]Apollo[/name_m]
[name_m]Maximus[/name_m] / [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m]
Antreas
[name_u]Orion[/name_u]
[name_m]Julius[/name_m] / [name_u]Julian[/name_u]
[name_m]Calixto[/name_m]
[name_m]Augustus[/name_m]
[name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m]
[name_u]Antares[/name_u] (name of the [name_m]Scorpio[/name_m] constellation)
[name_m]Osias[/name_m]
[name_m]Tiberius[/name_m]
[name_m]Ogden[/name_m]
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] but it’s a name I used for a cat we fostered for a few weeks and not sure if he would go for it, maybe there’s something similar enough to it out there
Thank you! [name_u]Banks[/name_u] would definitely not be familiar within our social circles, perhaps not unheard of but certainly unusual. I’m okay with that since no one would really have trouble pronouncing it.
From your list I adore [name_u]Julian[/name_u] but it’s been vetoed by dh. [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] and [name_m]Osias[/name_m] definitely pique my interest though!
Zoro definitely feels out there. I think of Zorro for sure. I wonder if its a bit too cool?
I actually have a little [name_m]Odin[/name_m] in my extended family so Im used to it now but I did find it strange to begin with. Its a strong name but maybe a bit larger than life.
[name_u]Banks[/name_u] feels much more easy to wear in my opinion. Still feels different but familiar.
Maybe you like [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] or something that shortens to [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u]?
From your favourites I love Banks honestly Banks is just soooo cool the name feels bold, distinguished, has this old school gentlemanly vibe despite feeling ever so modern and I like the connection to nature through the meaning ‘one who lives by the riverbank’.
Banks is fabulous!
Looking at your other options I think Zoro is bold, adventurous and interesting however just doesn’t grab me as much as Banks does. I think Odin is majestic with a fashionable feel and has lovely mythological associations but still doesn’t grab me like Banks.
You’ve had lots of lovely suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries
Ziggy
Ari
Ignatius
Rex
Yarrow
Soren
Riggs
Rafael
Stone
Jericho
Jagger
Rome
Pascoe
You perfectly described why I love [name_u]Banks[/name_u]. Dh and I both love the name but he’s really pushing for it to be the middle, so I’m leaning towards that and finding a first name to go with it. From your suggestions I really love [name_u]Rome[/name_u] (not necessarily with [name_u]Banks[/name_u] but all the same) [name_u]Ari[/name_u] and [name_u]Pascoe[/name_u]! thanks for your input!
