One week till due date--still undecided!

I posted about our name options a month ago or so, and loved so many of the suggestions. Still we have not settled upon a name for either boy or girl.

We are definitely closer to having the girl wrapped up, but soooo lost on boy. We loved [name]Ezra[/name] for a boy, it seemed a perfect match with our sib set of [name]Elijah[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] and [name]Adah[/name] [name]Lucia[/name].

However, we recently moved to a new church that we love and plan on becoming members of one day. The pastor and his wife also have three children: [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Ezra[/name]. Now that we are getting to know them, it just seems weird to use [name]Ezra[/name]. [name]Even[/name] though when we mentioned (casually) that we were considering [name]Ezra[/name] for our unborn, they seemed unfazed.

So here we are with:

Girls
[name]Naomi[/name] ?? [name]Dickinson[/name] (the front runner, Need a middle name)
[name]Evangelina[/name] [name]Joy[/name] [name]Dickinson[/name] ( husband is lukewarm on this one, I love it.)

Boys ( in order of preference, which changes every day)
[name]Josiah[/name] [name]Dickinson[/name]
[name]Malachi[/name] [name]Dickinson[/name]

[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Dickinson[/name] (my cousin’s son is [name]Sam[/name]… we rarely see them, but I feel unsure about whether its still too close)
[name]Isaiah[/name] [name]Dickinson[/name] ( husband really likes, I don’t so much)

We already have a [name]Gabriel[/name] (husband), [name]Jacob[/name], [name]Noah[/name], [name]Micah[/name], [name]Jordan[/name], [name]Aaron[/name], [name]Isaac[/name], [name]Ethan[/name], and [name]Silas[/name] in the family. We are not committed to having a hebrew name, but our other children do have Hebrew names, so it seems to fit. We are Christians and like names to have significant meaning, of course.

Thanks for any suggestions! And thank you double, if you have already tried to help me before:)

I think [name]Naomi[/name] is a great match with your other children. I think [name]Naomi[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] would be lovely.

That is funny that your new [name]Pastor[/name] has an [name]Elijah[/name] and [name]Ezra[/name]. It would put me off using the name too. Out of your list I really like [name]Josiah[/name] and [name]Malachi[/name]. Would you mind having another name that ended in ‘ah’?

Tinks- thanks for the feedback. About the -ah ending, yes, it does bug me. I can’t decide if its just me or if its truly annoying to have all children rhyme??

Yay for Bible names
[name]How[/name] funny the pastors kids are so close to yours! and kinda not so great huh
I know missionary kids [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Isaiah[/name], [name]Ezra[/name] and [name]Grace[/name]. So maybe [name]Isaiah[/name] would be a good option! I do just love the book of [name]Isaiah[/name] so thats always a plus!
Not too keen on [name]Malachi[/name], but I just have bad associations with it.
My favorite would be [name]Josiah[/name] However, like [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Josiah[/name] is also very popular among Christians. I know a handful of young [name]Josiahs[/name].
What about [name]Micah[/name] and [name]Noah[/name]? (again popular in our circles)
[name]Jonah[/name] is a fav off mine!
I’ve recently seen the appeal in [name]Naomi[/name]. [name]Evangeline[/name] had been a favorite too. [name]Naomi[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] would be super sweet!
Have you considered [name]Junia[/name]? She was only mentioned once in Romans as the only female apostle!
Our what about [name]Eden[/name]? Or [name]Eve[/name]? [name]Genesis[/name] is the foundation and 2 great foundational names!!

I love [name]Naomi[/name] and [name]Malachi[/name] for you! I think if you used another -ah name at this point, it would seem that you were doing it on purpose rather than just picking your favorite names that happened to end that way, know what I mean?

[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Joy[/name] - I think this middle works just as well for [name]Naomi[/name] as for [name]Evangelina[/name]. I also like pp’s suggestion of [name]Junia[/name].

Good luck!

I really love [name]Malachi[/name] for a boy.

Congratulations on upcoming little one!

Girls:
[name]Naomi[/name] is a better fit with [name]Elijah[/name] and [name]Adah[/name]. It’s Hebrew, a classic, is the right length, and yet mixes it up by starting with a consonant and ending without -i. [name]Naomi[/name] is one of my favorite names.

[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Evangelina[/name] is a bit of a mouthful, but [name]Naomi[/name] [name]Angela[/name] or [name]Naomi[/name] [name]Eva[/name]? I agree [name]Naomi[/name] [name]Joy[/name] is also nice. Based on other posts and your taste:

[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Ruth[/name] (love the connection in the Bible, love the long u’s in both this and [name]Lucia[/name])
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Junia[/name] (nice rhythm with [name]Lucia[/name])
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Lydia[/name] (another NT woman – nice rhythm with [name]Lucia[/name])
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Hope[/name] (another virtue name, I happen to like all the Os)
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Johanna[/name] (from [name]John[/name], seems to match with [name]Adah[/name] and has more Os)
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Helena[/name] ([name]Lucia[/name] is light in Latin, [name]Helena[/name] is light in Greek)
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Dinah[/name] (looks good with [name]Adah[/name] and [name]Elijah[/name])
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Sarah[/name] (looks good with [name]Adah[/name] and [name]Elijah[/name])
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Susannah[/name] (from shoshanim, lilies/roses)

Boys: I think you can still do [name]Ezra[/name], if you want to.
I like all your other options very much!

[name]Josiah[/name] - continues the -ah ending, but mixes it up with consonant beginning, and the O
[name]Malachi[/name] – a great name, but I bet pronunciation will be a bigger issue with this one than the others
[name]Samuel[/name] – seems more popular than your other current 3 picks and [name]Ezra[/name], but nice!
[name]Isaiah[/name] – to me, really close to [name]Elijah[/name] (more than [name]Ezra[/name] or [name]Josiah[/name], the long I without a new consonant)

Most of these combine well for middle-first combos, and with [name]Ezra[/name]. [name]Josiah[/name] and [name]Isaiah[/name] don’t combine so well with each other, and [name]Malachi[/name] [name]Isaiah[/name] has an odd flow because of the I’s.

A few Biblical names which capture the feeling of [name]Ezra[/name] (to me), for first or middle name consideration:

[name]Ezekiel[/name] – keeps the vowel thing going, but mixes it up a bit with the z and k, the l at the end.
[name]Zebulon[/name] – Biblical tribe/place name
[name]Boaz[/name] – [name]Ruth[/name]'s husband, a bit much, maybe, but could you use [name]Bo[/name]?
[name]Lazar/name – raised by [name]Jesus[/name], and probably newly familiar as [name]Lazar[/name] because of the movie the Kids are All Right, which might or might not matter to you in different ways.
[name]Isaac[/name] – keeps the initial vowel thing going, and has the z sound from [name]Ezra[/name], but offers a new initial vowel with [name]Elijah[/name] and [name]Adah[/name], and has that neat hard ending!
[name]Nehemiah[/name] – all that short e, vowel ending, softness of the n, h, and m, but still starts with a consonant.
[name]Ephraim[/name] – the short e, the airflow of f like z, the r, but has the m at the end to mix it up!
[name]Joachim[/name] – doesn’t really sound like [name]Ezra[/name], and isn’t really Biblical, but a saint’s name (traditionally [name]Mary[/name]'s father) that reminds me of [name]Ezra[/name] for being an uncommon old religious name that is surprisingly familiar ([name]Ezra[/name] has [name]Ezra[/name] [name]Cornell[/name] and Better than [name]Ezra[/name], and [name]Joachim[/name] has [name]Joachim[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name] and the San [name]Joaquin[/name] valey).

Best wishes!

[name]Hi[/name]!

[name]Love[/name] [name]Elijah[/name] and [name]Adah[/name].

I think [name]Naomi[/name] works, but [name]Evangelina[/name] feels like too much name next to the two you’ve got. As for boy names, I’m not sure. [name]Samuel[/name] seems best, but it isn’t quite up to [name]Elijah[/name] and [name]Adah[/name]. [name]Malachi[/name] is second for me, but I worry that it’s too much name. [name]Isaiah[/name] and [name]Josiah[/name], to me, are too close to [name]Elijah[/name].

Someone else mentioned that [name]Elijah[/name] and [name]Adah[/name] both have the -ah ending, and I think that’s fine. It would be totally fine to continue it, too, as long as you don’t choose names that are too similar in sound. To me, [name]Isaiah[/name] and [name]Josiah[/name] are both too close to [name]Elijah[/name] for my comfort level. But, there are other options for you, of course:

[name]Dinah[/name] - “God will judge”
[name]Selah[/name] - “rock” - The meaning is weird, but it’s the same as [name]Peter[/name]. My favorite Biblical name!
[name]Susannah[/name] - “lily”

[name]Jonah[/name] - “dove” - A nice meaning. Very peaceful.
[name]Noah[/name] - “rest, wandering”
[name]Tobiah[/name] - “the [name]Lord[/name] is good”
[name]Zachariah[/name] - “the [name]Lord[/name] has remembered”

Personally, I love [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Adah[/name], and [name]Selah[/name] or [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Adah[/name], and [name]Susannah[/name] for girls. [name]Selah[/name] has a bit of a lighter, sassy feel like [name]Adah[/name], so maybe that could be a nice direction to go in - after all, you were thinking of the very feminine [name]Evangelina[/name]!

For boys, I’m really feeling a pull toward [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Adah[/name], and [name]Jonah[/name]. My neighbor recently named her youngest son [name]Jonah[/name] (she’s also got [name]Caleb[/name] and [name]Eli[/name]), and it’s just such a striking yet sweet name. And, it isn’t too close to [name]Elijah[/name] or [name]Adah[/name]. [name]Noah[/name] would be my second choice, but it’s a real chart climber and how do you beat [name]Jonah[/name]'s serene meaning?

Let’s say you do like those, though you might not. What middle names would you use? With big brother [name]Elijah[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name], it makes sense to me to have both first and middle names be Hebrew in origin, even if [name]Gabriel[/name] is your husband’s name - [name]Jonah[/name] [name]Malachi[/name] [name]Dickinson[/name], [name]Jonah[/name] [name]Tobias[/name] [name]Dickinson[/name]? And, with big sis [name]Adah[/name] [name]Lucia[/name], maybe a feminine middle name like [name]Lucia[/name] would be best? Something with a good meaning? [name]Selah[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Dickinson[/name], [name]Selah[/name] [name]Carina[/name] [name]Dickinson[/name], [name]Selah[/name] [name]Francesca[/name] [name]Dickinson[/name], [name]Selah[/name] [name]Isabetta[/name] [name]Dickinson[/name], [name]Selah[/name] [name]Rosetta[/name] [name]Dickinson[/name], [name]Selah[/name] [name]Sancia[/name] [name]Dickinson[/name]?

So, yes, if I were you, I’d choose either [name]Jonah[/name] [name]Malachi[/name] or [name]Jonah[/name] [name]Tobias[/name] for a boy and [name]Selah[/name] [name]Carina[/name] or [name]Selah[/name] [name]Rosetta[/name] for a girl. I love all of them with [name]Elijah[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] and [name]Adah[/name] [name]Lucia[/name].

[name]Lemon[/name]

You have received some great feedback!
My favorites for you are:
[name]Naomi[/name] or [name]Selah[/name] (I love them both!)

[name]Micah[/name] or [name]Jonah[/name] (I love them both!) I also like [name]Malachi[/name].

If you would consider [name]Jonah[/name] I think it would be a perfect fit! I have a 14 yo son named [name]Jonah[/name], and have always loved his name, and have gotten many compliments on it.

As for girls: [name]Love[/name] [name]Lemon[/name]'s suggestion of [name]Susannah[/name]! [name]Naomi[/name] is pretty, and I think [name]Sarah[/name] would fit nicely as well. =0)

Thank you all so much for the super thoughtful responses!

Some of the boys names suggested are already family names… [name]Micah[/name] and [name]Noah[/name]- my husband’s brothers, both in their 20’s and might want to use their names for their own boys one day.(Otherwise, I would choose [name]Micah[/name], without hesitation :)) And [name]Isaac[/name] is a very close nephew.

Of the suggestions, I personally love [name]Jonah[/name], meaning and sound. I’ve suggested it many times. Husband just can’t get past [name]Jonah[/name]'s role in the bible, and insists that a “[name]Jonah[/name]” would be teased. I disagree.

As for the other boy suggestions, all have been considered and the only one that seems a possibility, though a dim one, is [name]Ezekiel[/name].

[name]Even[/name] I have to admit that [name]Malachi[/name] is kind of clunky next to [name]Elijah[/name] and [name]Adah[/name]. And frankly, though my husband likes it a lot, I agree that [name]Isaiah[/name] rhymes too much with [name]Elijah[/name].

This baby just has to be a girl, because there are really no boy names that seem to click for me right now!

As for the girls, now I feel I have too many good choices! I love the suggestions of [name]Junia[/name] and [name]Selah[/name]. [name]Susannah[/name] is lovely, but I have worked for two Susans and I don’t think I can get around it in my mind. [name]Selah[/name] is also used a lot in the Psalms as an encouragement to weigh or to think upon the things that have been spoken… to meditate and consider carefully. To me that’s a beautiful name association. We do know a little [name]Selah[/name] from our old church, but I don’t think it would be much of an issue if we used it. [name]Lydia[/name] was my great grandmother and I love the name… it still could be a possibility, except my [name]SIL[/name] loves [name]Lydia[/name] and has claimed it for years. She just lost her daughter at 40 weeks pregnant in [name]December[/name]. Its just too sensitive right now.

If only we could force ourselves to choose names in a vacuum absent of all current and past associations, and just choose what we like… it could be so much more simple.

what about [name]Cohen[/name] for a boy?

Not sure if this is much help to you, but…
you can tell your husband that my son, [name]Jonah[/name] has NEVER been teased for his name.

My vote for a boy is [name]Samuel[/name]. [name]Sam[/name] is just a classic and I think it fits nicely with the other names.

[name]Samuel[/name] - “[name]Sam[/name]” is nice!

Here is my opinion of [name]Naomi[/name]:

It has the sound Nay (ie No) in it. I would not give my child a name that gave a negative image go for something bold.

[name]Jemima[/name] is my fave
also like [name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Eve[/name] or [name]Evangeline[/name] or [name]Eva[/name] or [name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Deborah[/name]
now the name [name]Selah[/name] is really only seen as far as I remember as the word at the end of a verse in Psalms so it would be like naming her [name]Amen[/name] imo
A way out choice is [name]Epiphany[/name] nn [name]Pip[/name]
Boys
[name]Eben[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Joel[/name]
[name]Lucas[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name]
[name]Grant[/name]
[name]Saul[/name]
[name]Paul[/name]

I know a lady that named her 5th girl, Blessing…(wouldn’t be for me, but I think the word is beautiful =0) )

[name]Ruth[/name] [name]Eliza[/name] is stunning!!!
[name]Love[/name] the name [name]Eve[/name]…
and I have to put one more plug in for [name]Sarah[/name] (yes, I am a bit bias right now); but truely it is a classic, beautiful biblical name.

I also know a lady who just named her little girl [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Faith[/name]… and refrenced the verse from the bible (the following is just a portion of the verse, but the relavent portion): Psalm 128 " your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the [name]LORD[/name]."~~
She bolded [name]Olive[/name]… I thought that was a very sweet!

I have always wanted an [name]Eva[/name], [name]Eve[/name] or [name]Evangeline/name. We have a niece named [name]Evelyn[/name]. Unfortunately, our employer’s wife is [name]Eva[/name], my husband has worked for them for 8 years. I still love the names, but there is no way, no how, that my husband is going to name his daughter after his boss’s wife. I get it, I do.

My name is [name]Elizabeth[/name] and I’ve always thought that a variation on my name would be sweet, there are so many! [name]Eliza[/name] would be my first pick, except that it sounds almost identical to [name]Elijah[/name], which is what we call him, not [name]Eli[/name].

I still feel so dry on all of my boy options, I don’t seem to have even one choice that feels remotely like, MY [name]SON[/name]. Thank you for all the attempts at helping me. I am sure, if its a boy, the [name]Lord[/name] will give us a name to love.

We didn’t choose names for the first two until after they were born, I don’t why I thought it would be different this time!

I am so sorry to hear of your sister in law’s loss.

I would not worry about the “Nay” at the start of [name]Naomi[/name].
Great I idea to use [name]Elizabeth[/name]!
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Liza[/name]?
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Beth[/name]?
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Bethia[/name]?

For the [name]Eve[/name]/[name]Eva[/name] issue: To me, [name]Vera[/name] has always felt similar to [name]Eva[/name]. It means “faith” in Russian and “truth” in Latin, so great meanings, and that V in Latin also connects to a lot of words for life, like [name]Eve[/name] does. [name]Naomi[/name] [name]Vera[/name]? [name]Vera[/name] [name]Naomi[/name]?

Evera is a female form of an Old English name, [name]Everhard[/name], meaning “brave one,” that’s also nice, although I don’t know if it works as well with [name]Naomi[/name], or your other children. But it’s out there.

For the boys, do you like [name]Matthias[/name]? Familiar from similarity to [name]Matthew[/name], but less super-frequent, and the i-a ties it into [name]Elijah[/name], but it’s still pretty distinct from it.

Also, [name]Jethro[/name] ([name]Moses[/name]'s father in law) is to my ears an absolutely awesome name that actually has a similar feeling to [name]Ezra[/name]. It is out there, and used by a rock band (although actually it has that in common with [name]Ezra[/name]!), and on the [name]Beverly[/name] Hillbillies (but who remembers that?), so no sweat if it’s too much, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Best wishes! You will find a name : D!

I like the suggestion of [name]Matthias[/name] and here are a few more ideas

[name]Elijah[/name] and [name]Adah[/name] and
[name]James[/name] [name]Matthias[/name]
Gera [name]Solomon[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Levi[/name]
Harel [name]Benjamin[/name] (Harel means mountain of God) nn of [name]Harry[/name]
[name]Aaron[/name] [name]Emmanuel[/name]
[name]Amos[/name] [name]Meyer[/name] ([name]Meir[/name])
[name]Ephraim[/name] [name]Paz[/name] ([name]Paz[/name] means golden)
[name]Joshua[/name] [name]Reuben[/name]
[name]Zachary[/name] [name]Abraham[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Boaz[/name]
[name]Christian[/name] [name]Joel[/name]
[name]Jesse[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Seth[/name] [name]Ezekiel[/name]
[name]Judah[/name] [name]Levi[/name]
[name]Stephen[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Levi[/name] [name]Emmanuel[/name]
[name]Ezekiel[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] nn of [name]Kyle[/name]

best wishes
