Oona?

Too weird? [name]Do[/name] you like it? Much less standard than my usual taste but has always been a guilty pleasure of sorts for me. I’ve taken very strongly to [name]Imogen[/name] lately (in the US so it is still pretty uncommon), and [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Oona[/name] seem sort of well matched to me for sisters, curious your thoughts. What would you put for a middle with [name]Oona[/name]? Or what else would you think would pair well with sister [name]Imogen[/name]? Thanks!

I’m not a fan of [name]Oona[/name].
I like [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Charis[/name].

I’m not a huge fan either. I prefer the [name]Una[/name] spelling though

The name [name]Oona[/name] is okay, but it’s not one of my personal faves. I think it goes well with [name]Imogen[/name].

Thanks for the thoughts all! judyariel - I really like [name]Oona[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] and [name]Oona[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name] especially.
It probably is too much, but it is just such fun to say!

I’m not a fan really, sorry… [name]Oona[/name]/[name]Una[/name]/[name]Uma[/name] have never really appealed to me, and I can’t really see [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Oona[/name] as sisters. I would do something classic and girly as a mn for her, though, like [name]Oona[/name] [name]Giselle[/name] (perhaps not classic, but classy and timeless and girly), [name]Oona[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Oona[/name] [name]Helena[/name], [name]Oona[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]…

As a sister for [name]Imogen[/name]… I was actually going to say [name]Freya[/name], haha, but that’s your MN for [name]Imogen[/name]. Maybe [name]Bryony[/name], [name]Felicity[/name], [name]Arabella[/name]… something with a decidedly UK vibe to it? I think [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Sylvie[/name] are adorable together, actually.

Thanks ashthedreamer! We may have to figure out a way to get to [name]Oona[/name] as a nickname.

I like [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Sylvie[/name] too and was recently thinking of that. Recently realized [name]Sylvie[/name] might be a way to nn [name]Suvi[/name] (Finnish for summer), which I like.

I love [name]Oona[/name], and much prefer this spelling to [name]Una[/name].

I don’t care that much for [name]Oona[/name], sorry, but I really like [name]Orla[/name] which I think would be great with [name]Imogen[/name]

I love [name]Oona[/name]. My DH would veto though.

@holbs and saranel - thanks, it’s nice to see some positive feedback (no problem with the negative at all though, i’m not sensitive about this stuff) - it appears to be a divisive name, so that gives me pause. @saranel - I was SO shocked when mine didn’t object, that kind of made me fall harder for it. It’d always been this like silly, almost passing thing, my interest in it – he’s vetoed much more normal names (to my ear) as “too weird”, so that kept me from thinking harder into it, til he got into it too, and it just endeared it to me : D!

@svea - thanks for the suggestion - [name]Orla[/name]'s been slowly growing on me, and I do see the tie-in to [name]Imogen[/name], good thought! [name]Orla[/name] nn [name]Oona[/name] ; D? Huuuge stretch…I was also wondering about [name]Simone[/name] nn [name]Oona[/name]. Also a big stretch.

Thanks again all!

Another option is Oana (pronounced “[name]Wanna[/name]”), an Eastern European version of [name]Joanna[/name].

Thanks vivimay! I’ll have to think more about Oana/wanna…pretty but seems risky in a way (so does [name]Oona[/name], though : D). BUT, I do really like [name]Johanna[/name], maybe [name]Johanna[/name] nn [name]Oona[/name] is not so bizarre, especially given this tie in. Thanks!

My grandmother was named [name]Una[/name] [name]Adella[/name] (or [name]Adelle[/name] - Im not sure was going to make a post about this) but she said “you nah” (as far as I know - theres a big debate about her name in the family right now) Anyways, I think [name]Adele[/name] or [name]Adella[/name] sounds nice with it

Thanks thetxbelle! I remember you commenting about her before, and it does sound nice with [name]Adele[/name]! Interesting too since someone suggested [name]Giselle[/name] earlier.

I am wondering if liking [name]Oona[/name]/[name]Una[/name] could win me over to [name]Luna[/name]…normally it rings my trendy bells / makes me think of lunatic, but it is also pretty and I love the moon connection (it’s actually kind of what I like about [name]Oona[/name], too, [name]Oona[/name]/luna/moon-a, silly, I know).

I have realized I am just finding the “oo” sound really fun, and maybe [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] nn [name]Lulu[/name]/[name]Lula[/name] instead of [name]Lottie[/name] or [name]Lola[/name] is something I should look into. [name]Even[/name] if [name]Lulu[/name]/[name]Lula[/name] would be more when she is younger and she could grow into [name]Lottie[/name]/[name]Lola[/name]/full on [name]Louisa[/name].

[name]Louisa[/name] [name]Naomi[/name] nn [name]Luna[/name] ; ) ?

Thanks again all!

I’m in love with [name]Oona[/name], that spelling. I could see myself using it on a child someday. I’m really fond of [name]Imogen[/name] as well, and I think that they would work beautifully as sisters. They definitely compliment each other in my opinion.

Thanks nono! : D.

I can’t think of a name I like less than [name]Oona[/name]. I hate the way it looks like, Ooooh that’s a weird name. Sound is unappealing to me too.
