[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there, which do you prefer:
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]?
I much prefer [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], as [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is so dated!
I love [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] so it gets my vote, I like [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] but it is a little more girly amd a bit less spunky.
Definitely [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], it’s much more wearable, prettier, and not so heavy-handedly tragic.
I second this!
I third it. Plus, I’ve heard people nickname an [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] as “Ophie”, rhyming with [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], and it felt really blunt and awkward to me, especially compared to [name_u]Fee[/name_u] and [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] and the other [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] nicknames.
I love both, but [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] takes the cake
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]! [name_u]Love[/name_u] this name. I find [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] pretty but quite dated.
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] hands down!
It’s absolutely beautiful whereas [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] just reminds me of the ogre in Shrek. [name_m]Just[/name_m] my opinion of course
I think they’re both great names. [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] always makes me feel slightly morbid ([name_m]Hamlet[/name_m]) even though it’s beautiful. [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is slightly more wearable.
I adore both of them, though I’m going to have to vote [name_f]Fiona[/name_f].
I don’t like [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] at all. I hate the ‘phil’ sounds or anything like it. My vote is for [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]!!
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] all the way! [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] is okay.
I love [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]! [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] sounds a bit dated to me.
Both are pretty, but [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] has my vote! She’s more down-to-earth and versatile than [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] is.
And I definitely wouldn’t see it as dated.
I’m in the [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] camp. [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] is just too associated w/[name_m]Hamlet[/name_m] for me, & the sound “[name_m]FEEL[/name_m]” in the middle grates on my ear.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]!
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] gets my vote. [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] is one of those Nameberry favorites that I never understood. It’s not horrible, it just sounds off when I say it aloud, maybe it’s the ‘Oph’ at the beginning because there are many names that end in -elia that don’t bother me. ~ Others have mentioned the backstory of this name, or its history, but that isn’t what bothers me. It is just a name that, to me, doesn’t deserve all of the love that it gets. Plus, I couldn’t imagine a little girl named [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]. I know she won’t be little forever, but still.
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is all around timeless, beautiful, and I just haven’t known of a [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] in my life that wasn’t caring. It doesn’t sound very dated in my ears, I’ve known of quite a few in these times. I used to associate it more with the Shrek character when I was younger but I haven’t watched the movie/s in a while, and I can swear I didn’t even think about the ogre until I saw one of the replies. Besides, I adore her character. One of the lessons or the moral that the movie teaches is that beauty is not held on the outside… which is something I would like to teach my children if I had any…
Good luck.
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] is a favorite because of my love of S/peare-tragic or not. Reminds me always of the [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], remebernce scene.
I like the sound-its distinctive. But with negative association You would want to be really loving it to use it.
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]- well its my very favourite [name_m]Scott[/name_m] name which is no longer just Scottish. If you like Celtic names, some are very attractive for unusual sound variety, so its versatile -classic or Celtic.
I would choose [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] but I would vote [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. Sorry .
I third this!
